Abstract
Cross-linking bonds adjacent polymer chains into a three-dimensional network. Cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) turns into a hydrogel, insoluble structure exhibiting outstanding sorption properties. As an electrospinnable polymer, PVA enables the creation of nanofibrous hydrogels resembling biological tissues, thus ideal for nature-inspired platforms. PVA properties are easily adjustable through additives and an appropriate cross-linking method. Drawing inspiration from environmentally safe approaches, this work developed a new "green" method of low-temperature PVA cross-linking. Nanofibers were electrospun from a precursor solution of PVA dissolved in fresh lemon juice, stabilized by heating at 60 °C for 7 days, and thoroughly characterized. The obtained nanoplatform demonstrated long-term stability and enhanced mechanical properties. Its biocompatibility was confirmed, and its antibacterial and health-promoting effects were attributed to lemon juice-rich in vitamin C, a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. The developed system has future potential for use in the biomedical engineering field as a dressing accelerating wound healing.

Abstract
Electrospun nanofibers, renowned for their high specific surface area, robust mechanical properties, and versatile chemical functionalities, offer a promising platform for enzyme immobilization. Over the past decade, significant strides have been made in developing enzyme-induced electrospun nanofibers (EIEN). This review systematically summarizes the advanced applications of EIEN which are fabricated using both non-specific immobilization methods including interfacial adsorption (direct adsorption, cross-linking, and covalent binding) and encapsulation, and specific immobilization techniques (coordination and affinity immobilization). Future research should prioritize optimizing immobilization techniques to achieve a balance between enzyme activity, stability, and cost-effectiveness, thereby facilitating the industrialization of EIEN. We elucidate the rationale behind various immobilization methods and their applications, such as wastewater treatment, biosensors, and biomedicine. We aim to provide guidelines for developing suitable EIEN immobilization techniques tailored to specific future applications.

Abstract
Nowadays, biosensors are gaining increasing interest in foods' and beverages' quality control, owing to their economic production, enhanced sensitivity, specificity, and faster analysis. In particular, colorimetric biosensors can be combined with color recognition applications on smartphones for the detection of analytes, rendering the whole procedure more applicable in everyday life. Herein, chitosan (CS) films were prepared with the deep eutectic solvent (DES) choline chloride/urea/glycerol (ChCl:U:Gly). Glucose oxidase (GOx), a widely utilized enzyme in quality control, was immobilized within CS films through glutaraldehyde (GA), leading to the formation of CS/GOx films. The optimized GOx concentration and DES content were determined for the films. Moreover, the effect of the pH and temperature of the glucose oxidation reaction on the enzymatic activity of GOx was studied. The structure, stability, and specificity of the CS/GOx films as well as the Km values of free and immobilized GOx were also determined. Finally, the analytical performance of the films was studied by using both a spectrophotometer and a color recognition application on a smartphone. The results demonstrated that the films were highly accurate, specific to glucose, and stable when stored at 4 °C for 4 weeks and when reused 10 times, without evident activity loss. Furthermore, the films displayed a good linear response range (0.1-0.8 mM) and a good limit of detection (LOD, 33 μM), thus being appropriate for the estimation of glucose concentration in real samples through a smartphone application.

Abstract
Herein, a cost-effective and portable microfluidic paper-based sensor is proposed for the simultaneous and rapid detection of glucose, free amino acids, and vitamin C in fruit. The device was constructed by embedding a poly(carboxybetaine acrylamide) (pCBAA)-modified cellulose paper chip within a hydrophobic acrylic plate. We successfully showcased the capabilities of a filter paper-based microfluidic sensor for the detection of fruit nutrients using three distinct colorimetric analyses. Within a single paper chip, we simultaneously detected glucose, free amino acids, and vitamin C in the vivid hues of cyan blue, purple, and Turnbull's blue, respectively, in three distinctive detection zones. Notably, we employed more stable silver nanoparticles for glucose detection, replacing the traditional peroxidase approach. The detection limits for glucose reached a low level of 0.049 mmol/L. Meanwhile, the detection limits for free amino acids and vitamin C were found to be 0.236 mmol/L and 0.125 mmol/L, respectively. The feasibility of the proposed sensor was validated in 13 different practical fruit samples using spectrophotometry. Cellulose paper utilizes capillary action to process trace fluids in tiny channels, and combined with pCBAA, which has superior hydrophilicity and anti-pollution properties, it greatly improves the sensitivity and practicality of paper-based sensors. Therefore, the paper-based colorimetric device is expected to provide technical support for the nutritional value assessment of fruits in the field of rapid detection.

Electrospun Poly(vinyl alcohol)-Based Conductive Semi-interpenetrating Polymer Network Fibrous Hydrogel: A Toolbox for Optimal Cross-Linking. ACS MATERIALS AU 2023; 3:464-482. Abstract
Cross-linking of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) creates a three-dimensional network by bonding adjacent polymer chains. The cross-linked structure, upon immersion in water, turns into a hydrogel, which exhibits unique absorption properties due to the presence of hydrophilic groups within the PVA polymer chains and, simultaneously, ceases to be soluble in water. The properties of PVA can be adjusted by chemical modification or blending with other substances, such as polymers, e.g., conductive poly[3-(potassium-5-butanoate)thiophene-2,5-diyl] (P3KBT). In this work, PVA-based conductive semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) are successfully fabricated. The systems are obtained as a result of electrospinning of PVA/P3KBT precursor solutions with different polymer concentrations and then cross-linking using "green", environmentally safe methods. One approach consists of thermal treatment (H), while the second approach combines stabilization with ethanol and heating (E). The comprehensive characterization allows to evaluate the correlation between the cross-linking methods and properties of nanofibrous hydrogels. While both methods are successful, the cross-linking density is higher in the thermally cross-linked samples, resulting in lower conductivity and swelling ratio compared to the E-treated samples. Moreover, the H-cross-linked systems have better mechanical properties-lower stiffness and greater tensile strength. All the tested systems are biocompatible, and interestingly, due to the presence of P3KBT, they show photoresponsivity to solar radiation generated by the simulator. The results indicate that both methods of PVA cross-linking are highly effective and can be applied to a specific system depending on the target, e.g., biomedical or electronic applications.

Abstract
The artificial multienzyme systems developed by mimicking nature has attracted much interest. However, precisely controlled compositions and ratios of multienzymatic co-immobilization systems are still limited by the indistinguishable nature of enzymes. Herein, a strategy for fabricating DNA-directed immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and glucose oxidase (GOx) on hybrid DNA nanoflowers (GOx-HRP@hDFs) is presented. The preparation of micron-sized hybrid DNA flowers (hDFs) begins with the predetermined repeatable polymer-like DNA sequences which contained two strands. The hDFs structure is generated through one-pot rolling circle amplification (RCA) and self-assembly with magnesium pyrophosphate inorganic crystals. Based on the rigid-base pairing, GOx and HRP conjugated with sequences complementary to strands would be anchored to the predesigned locations, respectively. By adjusting the loading amount/ratio of enzymes properly, the maximal catalytic efficiency can be precisely regulated. The reaction activity of GOx-HRP@hDFs was 7.4 times higher than that of the free GOx-HRP under the optimal mole ratio (GOx/HRP 4:1). In addition, this multienzyme catalyst system exhibits excellent precision, specificity, reproducibility, and long-term storage stability when applied to real human blood samples. The preceding results validate that GOx-HRP@hDFs are promising candidates for personal diabetes detection.

Abstract
Environmental monitoring and personal protection are critical for preventing and for protecting human health during all infectious disease outbreaks (including COVID-19). Fluorescent probes combining sensing, imaging and therapy functions, could not only afford direct visualizing existence of biotargets and monitoring their dynamic information, but also provide therapeutic functions for killing various bacteria or viruses. Luminogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) could be well suited for above requirements because of their typical photophysical properties and therapeutic functions. Integration of these molecules with fibers or textiles is of great interest for developing flexible devices and wearable systems. In this review, we mainly focus on how fibers and AIEgens to be combined for health protection based on the latest advances in biosensing and bioprotection. Abstract
Herein, an electrospun composite from poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and Stevia extract as a cross-linked nanofibrous was prepared with incorporating Fe-metal organic framework@Au nanoparticles (MIL-88A@AuNPs). The final composite was characterized, and then used as an efficient sorbent in pipette-tip micro solid-phase extraction (PT-µSPE) of eight selected pesticides in food samples followed by HPLC-UV analysis. Under the opted conditions, the linearity was in the range of 1.0-1000.0 ng mL-1 for atrazine and ametryn, 3.0-1500.0 ng mL-1 for tribenuron-methyl, metribuzin, profenofos and chlorpyrifos, 5.0 to 1500.0 ng mL-1 for phosalone, and 5.0-2000.0 ng mL-1 for malation with coefficient of determination (r2) ≥ 0.9943. The LODs (based on S/N = 3) ranged from 0.3 to 1.5 ng m L-1. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) were between 5.2% and 6.6% (intra-day, n = 5) and 5.9%-7.4% (inter-day, n = 3) for three consecutive days. Ultimately, the capability of the method in various food samples was appraised with good recoveries (79.3 to 97.6%).

MATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2022; 15:908. Abstract
To improve the performance of PtRu/nitrogen-doped graphene composite carbon nanofibers, the composite carbon nanofibers were thermally compensated by deep cryogenic treatment (DCT), which realized the morphology reconstruction of composite carbon nanofibers. The effects of different DCT times were compared: 12 h, 18 h, and 24 h. The morphology reconstruction mechanism was explored by combining the change of inner chain structure and material group. The results showed that the fibers treated for 12 h had better physical and chemical properties, where the diameter is evenly distributed between 500 and 800 nm. Combined with Fourier infrared analysis, the longer the cryogenic time, the more easily the water vapor and nitrogen enter polymerization reaction, causing changes of chain structure and degradation performance. With great performance of carbonization and group transformation, the PtRu/nitrogen-doped graphene composite carbon nanofibers can be used as an efficient direct alcohol fuel cell catalyst and promote its commercialization.
