Can Your Smartphone Make You a Tourist? Mine Does: Understanding the Consumer’s Adoption Mechanism for Mobile Payment System

Payment through mobile phones is a vital breakthrough in the arena of online businesses and e-commerce. The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants, enablers, and barriers involved in the success or failure of the mobile payment system (MPS) for the travel industry. The study employs the constructs operationalized from coping theory, unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT 2), and innovation resistance theory (IRT). The data has been collected from the 378 travelers who have used MPS for travel bookings for the first time. The customers of various travel agencies have been approached using an online questionnaire. Data has been analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) version 26. The analysis revealed several interesting findings. All of the direct hypotheses for coping theory constructs were accepted except for the mediating role of satisfaction. However, the factors of UTAUT 2 and IRT revealed very thought-provoking findings, questioning various obvious perceptions. The findings of the study can be used by the media agencies, hotels, and travel and tourism departments of the governments, especially in the context of developing nations.

Determinants of the Intention to Use Cross-Border Mobile Payments in Korea among Chinese Tourists: An Integrated Perspective of UTAUT2 with TTF and ITM

With the acceleration of global economic integration and digital economy, cross-border mobile payment has gained growing attention. On the other hand, as COVID-19 keeps on spreading, the popularization of cross-border mobile payment can lower the risk of infection caused by cash payment of tourists. However, though previous researchers already examined mobile payment users’ behavioral intention from different perspectives, these research findings tend to concentrate on the non-cross-border section of mobile payment. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine factors influencing cross-border mobile payment use intention from the user perspective, and combining three theoretical models, chiefly UTAUT2 (extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology), ITM (initial trust model), and TTF (task technology fit). In this research, 786 Chinese with the experience of using cross-border mobile payment while traveling to South Korea are adopted as respondents, and the structural equation model is used to empirically analyze the data of these research samples. The study found that initial trust, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, price value, task technology fit, and initial trust have significant effects on use intention. Research findings of this paper can deepen people’s understanding of users’ intention to use cross-border mobile payment, and provide theoretical support for the development of cross-border mobile payment.

Users’ Evaluation of a New Web Browser Payment Interface for Facilitating the Use of Multiple Payment Systems

The availability of multiple (mobile) electronic payment systems ((M)EPS) has led to the development of web browser payment interfaces that support various payment systems, facilitate the transaction, the choice of the payment system, and perform the payment. However, so far, no in-depth study on user satisfaction determinants with these interfaces has been conducted. Our work aims to cope with this issue. Thus, based on the analysis of payment literature and Google Chrome web browser (GCWB) payment interface, we propose a new web browser payment interface that considers users’ preferences to support multiple payment systems. Furthermore, we have developed a theoretical model to determine users’ preferences to support multiple payment systems. Our model is based on the extension of technology acceptance models. Finally, we evaluated both the theoretical and proposed payment interface through a survey research approach (n = 266); data were collected, and the hypotheses were tested via statistical analysis (chi-square test, regression coefficients). Our experimental results revealed that our proposed interface is accepted, easy to use, and satisfies users’ needs. The key factors for accepting a new web browser payment interface are ease of use, usefulness, security, confidentiality, privacy, payment method preferences, visual interface design, and credibility.

What Affects Usage Satisfaction in Mobile Payments? Modelling User Generated Content to Develop the "Digital Service Usage Satisfaction Model"

Mobile payment services have become increasingly important in daily lives in India due to multiple planned and unplanned events. The objective of this study is to identify the determinants of usage satisfaction of mobile payments which could enhance service adoption. The "Digital Service Usage Satisfaction Model" has been proposed and validated by combining technology adoption and service science literature. First the data was extracted from Twitter based on hashtags and keywords. Then using sentiment mining and topic modelling the large volumes of text were analysed. Then network science was also used for identifying clusters among associated topics. Then, using content analysis methodology, a theoretical model was developed based on literature. Finally using multiple regression analysis, we validated the proposed model. The study establishes that cost, usefulness, trust, social influence, credibility, information privacy and responsiveness factors are more important to increase the usage satisfaction of mobile payments services. Also methodologically, this is an endeavour to validate a new approach which uses social media data for developing a inferential theoretical model.

Examining User's Initial Trust Building in Mobile Online Health Community Adopting

Due to the high perceived risk, it is critical to foster users’ initial trust in the promotion of mobile online health community (MOHC) adoption. The present study focused on the role of two different trust elements and examined the initial trust building process based on elaboration likelihood model and trust transfer theory. The results indicated that initial trust in MOHC context was composed of two interrelated components: health service provider (doctor) and underlying technology (MOHC platform). Especially, the initial trust in MOHC platform exerted greater effects on adopting intention. Both performance-based cue (doctors’ information quality and interaction quality) and transfer-based cue (trust in the offline doctors’ health service) positively shaped the initial trust in doctor. Meanwhile, only the performance-based cue (MOHC platform’s information quality and service quality) has significant positive association with initial trust in MOHC platform. However, interpersonal recommend is insignificantly related to the initial trust in doctor. Trust in the mobile internet service is insignificantly related to the initial trust in MOHC platform.
