Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipoblastoma is a rare and benign tumor arising from embryonal fat cells. It develops primarily in infancy and early childhood. We present a case study of a 10-month-old child treated for an extensive tumor of the infratemporal fossa and parapharyngeal space. The systematic review of 60 reports in 80 children with lipoblastoma of the head and neck is also reported. MATERIAL AND METHODS Systematic review of all articles included lipoblastomas of the head and neck area in children published from 1964 to 2022 in the PubMed database was conducted. Clinical presentation of extensive lipoblastoma of the head and neck in a child. RESULTS On the basis of all inclusion criteria 83 articles were identified concerning pediatric lipoblastoma. There were 36 F (45%) and 39 M (48%), in 6 patients, (7%) gender was not specified. Ages ranged from 0mth (6h) to 15 yo (180mth). The tumor was located in the head in 22 (27%) cases, while the neck area accounted for 53 (65%) cases. General description without precise location was shown in 6 (7%) cases. All patients underwent complete surgical excision. Post surgical recurrence was noted in 6% clinical cases in the analyzed articles. CONCLUSIONS Lipoblastoma is characterized by a rapidly growing predominantly adipose mass. The treatment of choice is complete surgical excision. In selected cases when the pathology is hard to reach, as a consequence of the extensive penetration of the mass, we recommend performing the procedure with an interdisciplinary team. Endoscopy assistance and microdebrider significantly facilitated the removal of pathology in the described advanced case of lipoblastoma. This is the only case reported in the pediatric literature of a head and neck lipoblastoma, where due to extensive involvement and location of the disease the cranial nerves V2 and inferior alveolar branch of V3 could not be spared. Long-term follow-up even to 10 years is required because there is a reported tendency for these tumors to recur.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipoblastomas (LPBs) are benign adipocytic neoplasms believed to recapitulate the development of embryonal fat. METHODS We investigated the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of 20 lipoblastomas arising in the head and neck in 18 patients. RESULTS Patients included 6 males and 12 females (1:2 ratio) with age at diagnosis ranging from 4 months to 28 years. Tumors occurred more commonly in the neck (12, 66.7%) and less commonly in the forehead, scalp, and tongue (2, 11.1%). Tumor size ranged from 1.4 to 6.0 cm (median 5.0 cm). Two patients, a 4-month-old female and 3-year-old male, had local recurrence of neck tumors at 4 months and 3 years after excision, respectively. Microscopically, tumors had a lobulated growth pattern and consisted of adipocytes at varying stages of differentiation. In addition to the classical histologic features, lipoma-like and myxoid variants constituted 45% of cases. Metaplastic elements, including brown fat and cartilage, were identified in two cases. CONCLUSIONS LPBs arising in the head and neck region are not uncommon and occurred at a rate of 9% in our cohort. They should be kept in the differential diagnosis when a fatty tumor is encountered in an older child or occurring at an unusual location.

Abstract
Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor originating from adipose tissue, usually seen in infancy and early childhood. Here, we present a case of scalp lipoblastoma in a 4-month-old that we treated surgically and review the literature. Although lipoblastomas may be seen in various locations during infancy and early childhood, rarely, they can also develop in the scalp.

Abstract
Lipomatous neoplasms are a rare entity in the pediatric population, comprising less than 10% of soft tissue tumors in the first two decades of life. Some characteristics of pediatric adipocytic tumors are analogous to their adult counterparts, some pediatric lipomatous lesions however harbor unique features. In recent years, there have been significant advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis and hence in the classification and treatment of pediatric adipocytic tumors. This literature-based article will provide a review of the presently known clinicopathological, immunohistochemical and molecular features of pediatric lipomatous lesions.

Abstract
Lipoblastoma is a rare and benign tumour arising from embryonal fat cells, predominantly diagnosed in children younger than 3 years old. The most frequent locations are the extremities and trunk, while the head and neck areas are more rarely affected (10-15% of total cases). Clinically, the most common presentation is a fast-growing painless mass. Ultrasound is the first-line imaging examination, but Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows for better definition of the relationships with the adjacent vascular and muscular structures. It can help to identify the lipomatous components, and it is useful for preoperative planning. However, the definitive diagnosis is provided by histopathological examination. Complete surgical excision is the first-line treatment, with a good prognosis in case of total eradication. We report the case of a 7-month-old male child with a rapidly growing mass that had typical radiological features of lipoblastoma.

Abstract
Lipoblastoma (LB) and lipoblastomatosis (LBS) are uncommon benign mesenchymal tumors of embryonal fat, occurring almost exclusively in infancy and early childhood. These fast-growing tumors have an excellent prognosis if properly treated. Eight consecutive children having pathologically demonstrated LB treated by the same surgical team were retrospectively reviewed. There were 5 boys and 3 girls between 7 to 36 months (median age 22 months). The localization of the tumors was on the thigh (1 case), abdomen (2 cases), axillary and pectoral region (1 case) paragluteal region (1 case), lumbar area (1 case), inguinal-scrotal (1 case), and in one case, presacral, gluteal and perirectal region (1 case). Five were focal and in 3 cases an infiltrative growth pattern was observed. One case exhibited a gross appearance resembling sacrococcygeal teratoma, with associated Dravet syndrome. No recurrence was noted in our series, after a mean follow-up of 28 months post operatory. Despite its rareness, LB must be kept in mind when diagnosing a rapidly growing fatty mass in children. Even when dealing with very large abdominal LB, complete surgical excision is possible, with an excellent prognosis. Due to the relatively high recurrence rate noted in the literature, particularly in LBS, follow-up is extremely important.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor arising from embryonic white fat which occurs in the early childhood. It usually arises on the extremities and considered as a rare cause of a pediatric head and neck masses. The aim of this study is to shed light on lipoblastomas as a differential diagnosis of rapidly growing soft fatty masses of children in neck and head area. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective review of 3 patients with lipoblastoma, underwent Surgical resection (case 1 and 2) by cervical approach. The third patient with a facial lipoblastoma was not operated due to the high risk of facial paralysis. Review of literature, diagnostic methods and genetics of lipomatous tumors are discussed. RESULTS Complete surgical excision via a cervical approach demonstrated irregular lobules of immature fat cells separated by a loose, myxoid connective tissue. Histology analysis confirmed the diagnosis of lipoblastoma. DISCUSSION Lipoblastoma is a rare childhood tumor, even rarer in head and neck area. The pathogenesis is unknown, though it is believed to arise from altered embryogenesis of human white fat and genetic predisposition, as chromosome 8 abnormalities may be implicated in the development of lipoblastoma. The presumptive diagnosis is performed by imaging. The most important differential diagnosis of lipoblastoma is myxoid liposarcoma. The mainstay of treatment is complete non-mutilating resection of the tumor to avoid recurrence. CONCLUSION Lipoblastoma should be suspected in case of heterogeneous fatty tumor in head and neck area, and included as a differential diagnosis of cervical masses in children younger than 3 years. The mainstay of treatment is complete surgical excision with a good prognosis.

Abstract
Lipoblastomas are benign tumours of immature fat cells presenting in infancy. A lipoblastoma within the airway lumen causing airway compromise is an extremely rare occurrence. We present a 6 hours of life girl who had airway compromise due to a lobulated mass at the base of the tongue. The mass was excised after emergency endotracheal intubation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe the management of a 5-year old female with a painless, mobile cheek mass. METHODS A retrospective chart review of presentation, imaging, pathology and management. RESULTS Magnetic resonance imaging showed a heterogenous mass with solid and lipomatous components. The mass was a lipoblastoma on histopathology and was excised completely with no evidence of recurrence. CONCLUSIONS The diagnosis and management of a cheek mass in a child is challenging. Imaging is important but not diagnostic. Surgical excision is the primary management of a lipoblastoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of this study was to examine the long-term outcomes of pediatric patients who underwent surgical resection for lipoblastoma and lipoblastomatosis (LB/LBM). METHODS A single-center retrospective study of pediatric patients with LB/LBMs seen between 1991 and 2015 was conducted. A systematic review, including studies published prior to late August 2018, was performed. Using a random effect meta-analysis, pooled weighted proportions and unadjusted odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. RESULTS The retrospective study included 16 patients, while the systematic review included 19 published studies consisting of 381 patients. Among 329 (82%) patients with follow-up information, the pooled recurrence rate was 16.8% (95% CI 10.9-23.5%; I2 = 59%). The reported time to recurrence ranged from < 1 to 8 years. Recurrence risk was greater for incomplete (n = 34) than complete resection (n = 150): OR 11.4 (95% CI 3.0-43.6; I2 = 43%). LBMs (n = 35) had a greater recurrence risk than LBs (n = 116): OR 5.5 (95% CI 1.9-15.9; I2 = 0%). Recurrences were higher for studies with approximately ≥ 3 years of follow-up versus studies with < 3 years of follow-up. CONCLUSION Recurrences are more likely to occur with LBMs and/or incomplete resection. Follow-up beyond 3-5 years should be considered given that the recurrence risk appears to be greater in the long-term.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although lipomatous tumors are the most common type of mesenchymal tumors in adults, they account for less than 10% of all soft tissue lesions in pediatric patients. In this descriptive study, we aim to present our series of pediatric lipomatous tumors consisting of lipoma, neural fibrolipoma, lipoblastoma, atypical lipomatous tumor, myxoid liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma, and to evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics of these tumors in reference to the literature. MATERIAL AND METHOD In this study, pediatric lipomatous tumor cases diagnosed between 2002 and 2018 were screened from pathological archives and retrospectively evaluated. RESULTS A total of 50 cases were diagnosed with lipomatous tumor within the mentioned period. Of the total cases, 24 were female (48%) and 26 were male (52%), with age distribution ranging from 1 to 204 months. Histopathological examination revealed lipoma in 26 cases (52%), lipoblastoma in 19 (38%), atypical lipomatous tumor in 2 (4%), myxoid liposarcoma in 2 (4%), and pleomorphic liposarcoma in 1 case (2%). CONCLUSION Although lipomatous tumors are the most common type of mesenchymal tumors; they rarely occur in children. Since there is a limited number of studies on pediatric lipomatous tumors in the literature, there is insufficient data on the prevalence and incidence of these tumors. These tumors may slowly enlarge to greater sizes, especially those localized in deep tissues, and may cause various clinical symptoms by compressing surrounding tissues. Local recurrences may occur, even after total excision, and require close monitoring.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipoblastomas are rare benign neoplasms that arise from fetal white fat cells. They are typically found in children under the age of 3 and have been reported in the mediastinum, extremities, and infrequently in the head and neck. We present a rare case of a lipoblastoma arising from the parotid gland and the first known report of a parotid lipoblastoma in a teenager. CASE PRESENTATION A 15-year-old male presented with a painless, slowly enlarging parotid mass and left facial swelling. A fine needle aspiration was non-diagnostic and initial MRI showed a 3.8 cm × 5.0 cm × 4.0 cm fatty lesion involving the superficial and deep lobes of the left parotid gland and masticator space with widening of the stylo-mandibular tunnel and thinning of the adjacent mandibular condyle. The patient was taken to the operating room, and the mass was excised under general anesthesia via a transcervical parotid approach with facial nerve monitoring. The most superficial aspect of the parotid bed was spared and with upper and lower divisions of the facial nerve preserved. The tumor, which primarily involved the deep lobe of the parotid, was entirely excised. Final pathology revealed a 5.2 cm lipoblastoma. The patient did well post-operatively with full function of the facial nerve and 20 months of follow up without evidence of recurrence. CONCLUSION This is the first reported case of a lipoblastoma of the parotid gland in a teenager. Although a rare tumor, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a parotid mass in this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purposes of this article are to provide an up-to-date overview of neonatal soft-tissue tumors, including information regarding their unique nature, and to present practical imaging techniques and characteristic imaging findings. CONCLUSION Neonatal soft-tissue tumors are a unique set of neoplasms that often have characteristic clinical and imaging findings. Imaging evaluation, mainly with ultrasound and MRI, plays an important role in the initial diagnosis, staging, preoperative assessment, and follow-up evaluation. Clear understanding of practical imaging techniques combined with up-to-date knowledge of characteristic imaging findings can help the radiologist provide a timely and accurate diagnosis of these neoplasms and can lead to optimal neonatal patient care.

Abstract
Fat-containing tumors are the most common soft-tissue tumors encountered clinically. The vast majority of fat-containing soft-tissue masses are benign. Lipomas are the most common benign fat-containing masses and demonstrate a characteristic appearance at magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Less common benign soft-tissue masses include lipoblastoma, angiolipoma, spindle cell lipoma/pleomorphic lipoma, myolipoma, chondroid lipoma, lipomatosis of nerve, lipomatosis, hibernoma, and fat necrosis. Well-differentiated liposarcomas (WDLPSs)/atypical lipomatous tumors (ALTs) are locally aggressive soft-tissue masses that do not metastasize. Biologically more aggressive liposarcomas include myxoid, pleomorphic, and dedifferentiated liposarcomas. At MR imaging, lipomas typically resemble subcutaneous fat but may contain a few thin septa. The presence of thick, irregular, enhancing septa and nonfatty soft-tissue mass components suggests liposarcoma rather than lipoma. However, benign lipomatous lesions and WDLPS/ALT often have overlapping MR imaging findings. Distinguishing WDLPS/ALT from a benign lipomatous lesion or from fat necrosis at imaging can be challenging and often requires histologic evaluation. We present the spectrum of fat-containing masses, using the World Health Organization classification of adipocytic tumors, with an emphasis on commonly encountered lesions, characteristic MR imaging findings associated with specific tumors, and overlapping MR imaging findings of certain tumors that may require histologic sampling. Abstract
Intrascrotal lipoblastoma is a rare pediatric benign soft tissue neoplasm, and only 11 cases have been reported. The accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult because of its rarelity and the similarity with the other soft tissue tumors. Among them, accurate preoperative diagnosis had been made in only one case. Thus, almost all of the cases had required inguinal mass excision (and orchidectomy in one case). In this paper, we discuss the accurate preoperative diagnosis of intrascrotal lipoblastoma and subsequent simple tumorectomy via minimal invasive scrotal skin incision, in 1-year-old boy. On physical examination, intrascrotal extra-testicular lobulated mass was palpated on the right scrotum. An ultrasonography revealed the well-circumscribed, iso-echoic, scant blood-flow, and lobulated tumors with each lobules of 1 to 4 cm in diameter, and the tumor located outside of the tunica vaginalis testis. The serum values of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (b-hCG) were within normal limit. The preoperative diagnosis of intrascrotal lipoblastoma was made, and the mass was excised via minimal scrotal incision. The right testicle and epididymis were normal. The lesion consisted of the distinct two lobulated tumors, and microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of intrascrotal lipoblastoma. The postoperative course was uneventful without evidence of recurrence. A rare intrascrotal lipoblastoma is seldom made accurate preoperative diagnosis; however, the accurate preoperative suspicion of this tumor leads to the minimal invasive tumorectomy via scrotal skin incision and favorable postoperative recovery without recurrence.

Abstract
Le lipoblastome est une tumeur bénigne rare, formée d'adypocytes immatures associés à la présence d'une matrice myxoide, de septas fibreux, et d'une architecture lobulaire. Il survient généralement chez le nourrisson et l'enfant. Cette tumeur touche dans la majorité des cas les tissus sous-cutanés des extrémités et du tronc. Elle est extrèmement rare au niveau de la tète et du cou. Un total de moins de 100 cas a été rapporté précédemment dans la littérature.

Abstract
Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumour arising from embryonic white fat. The tumours occur primarily in infancy and early childhood and usually arise from the limbs and the trunk, but neck involvement is rare. We report three cases of head and neck lipoblastoma. In all cases, imaging showed a well-delineated, fat-containing tumour. After surgical resection, the outcome of these patients was uneventful.

Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) system for defining and classifying soft tissue tumors is usually applied to lesions that occur in the trunk and extremities, but it also provides an excellent framework for characterizing nonepithelial extraskeletal tumors of the head and neck. Although nonepithelial extraskeletal tumors are in the minority among head and neck lesions, they are by no means rare. The WHO classification system recognizes nine major types based on histologic differentiation: adipocytic, fibroblastic or myofibroblastic, fibrohistiocytic, smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, vascular, pericytic, and chondro-osseous tumors, as well as soft tissue tumors of uncertain differentiation. Tumors of each histologic type may be further subclassified on the basis of their biologic behavior as benign, intermediate (ie, having malignant potential), or malignant. Imaging plays an important role in the noninvasive diagnosis and characterization of nonepithelial soft tissue tumors of the head and neck, providing clues about tumor grade, composition, extent, and involvement of adjacent structures. Although the imaging characteristics of many such tumors are nonspecific, consideration of the clinical history in concert with the imaging findings may help limit the differential diagnosis or even allow reliable diagnosis of some of these tumors.

Abstract
Lipoblastoma is a rare tumor of infancy. It originates from the white fetal fat in soft tissue. The most common location of this rare tumor is extremity and to best of our knowledge less than 10 cases of intrathoracic and mediastinal lipoblastoma has been reported in the English literature. Herein we present our experience with a 15-month-old boy infant who presented with severe dyspnea. Imaging studies showed a mass in the thoracic cavity and mediastinum which was diagnosed as lipoblastoma after pathologic examination of the resected mass. Lipoblastoma has been considered as a tumor of soft tissue, but it should also be considered as a rare cause of intrathoracic masses of young children.

Abstract
We report an unusual case of a bilateral, symmetric upper lip deformity. The submucosal tissue of the resected redundant portion of the lip was occupied by a mass that was diagnosed histopathologically as lipoblastomatosis. Differential diagnoses of lesions with symmetric upper lip deformity and current controversy regarding the surgical treatment are discussed here.
