Abstract
This article was previously posted to the Research Square preprint server on 16 August 2023. Maxillary sinus ameloblastoma is an uncommon, locally aggressive odontogenic tumor. In this case report, we present a comprehensive long-term follow-up of maxillary sinus ameloblastoma occurring in a patient with Turner syndrome, managed through partial right maxillectomy followed by adjuvant operative bed radiotherapy.

Abstract
Ameloblastomas are rare tumors that arises from the odontogenic epithelium. Although benign and slow growing, an extensive lesion may cause airway obstruction, making bag-mask ventilation and intubation a significant challenge. Here, we present a 54-year-old male in respiratory distress with an 18x15x13 cm submandibular mass causing airway compromise. The tumor was extensive, occupying most of the oral cavity. Unable to perform direct laryngoscopy because of the tumor burden, we performed an awake nasal fiberoptic intubation to secure the airway. Successful intubation was achieved as well as subsequently tracheostomy. We subsequently provide a discussion on associated challenges and management options for patients with ameloblastomas.

Abstract
Ameloblastoma (AM) is a rare epithelium-derived odontogenic tumor, mostly involving the mandible and less often the maxilla. Most AMs are benign and characterized by indolence and local invasiveness, with a high recurrence rate. Herein, we present a case of maxillary AM in a 42-year-old female suffering from left nasal congestion and facial swelling for almost one month after endoscopic surgery at a local hospital. The mass was completely resected by a transnasal functional endoscopic sinus surgery based on radiographic examination. Subsequently, postsurgical histopathological examinations were conducted, and she was diagnosed with a plexiform AM pattern. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that the tumor was positive for PCK, P63, CK5/6, and CK14 but negative for S100, ER, and Ki67. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with maxillary AM.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Ameloblastoma (AM) is the most common, locally aggressive odontogenic tumor. It comprises about 1% of all head and neck neoplasms. It occurs mainly in young adults in their 3rd and 4th decade of life. It localizes in the mandible in about 80% of the cases. According to the 2017 WHO classification, 4 types of ameloblastoma can be distinguished: ameloblastoma (previously referred to as solid/multicystic-SMA; the "conventional type" AM), unicystic (AM-UA), extraosseous/peripheral (AM-PA), and malignant/metastatic (AM-MA). Solid, multicystic is the most common type. It is characteristic for its aggressiveness and high risk of recurrence. Radical resection with consecutive reconstruction is the treatment of choice of mandibular ameloblastomas.In this study, the authors present their experience in the surgical treatment of mandibular ameloblastomas with vascularized free flap reconstructions. They discuss new technological possibilities that could improve the precision of the reconstructive procedure and therefore result in the better aesthetic outcome.The retrospective study of a group of 21 patients suffering from mandibular ameloblastoma who underwent segmental mandibulectomy with simultaneous microvascular free flap reconstruction was conducted. A thorough clinical analysis with various aspects was performed. Tumors resected before 2017 were double checked patomorphologically and assigned to the corrected subtype group.Seven patients were admitted to the department due to recurrent ameloblastoma. The most common localization of the tumor was the mandibular body (n = 6) and body with ramus of the mandible (n = 6). A total amount of 10 iliac crest free flaps and 12 fibular free flaps were performed. Complications were reported in 4 patients. A purulent oro-cutaneus fistula occurred in 3patients. There was a flap failure in each reconstructive group. The virtual surgical planning with intraoperative cone-beam computed tomography was used in 3 patients. Dentition implantation was conducted in 4 patients (3 simultaneously, 1 postponed). The mean follow-up was 5 years and 8 months.Radical resection that covers radical segmental mandibulectomy with immediate microvascular free flap reconstruction is a first-line and only effective treatment of mandibular ameloblastomas, that eliminates the risk of recurrence. The extent of surgical margins seems not to influence the recurrence rate, yet further investigation with statistical analysis should be performed. The choice of the adequate free flap must be adapted to dimensions and localization of the tumor and to each patient individually.New technologies such as virtual surgical planning with 3D models and intraoperativecone-beam computed tomography can make the reconstruction more accurate, improving patient's quality of life.

Abstract
Ameloblastoma (AM) in the maxillary sinus is rare. This benign entity shows locally invasive, destructive and aggressive behaviour and a high rate of recurrence. Therefore, the course of treatment is radical resection. We report the case of a 38-year-old man presenting with signs of recurrent sinusitis in the Ear, Nose and Throat Department. Transnasal flexible endoscopy revealed a cystic mass in the right inferior and middle nasal passage. CT scan showed an obliterated right maxillary sinus with a ballooning effect and pressure atrophy of the lateral sinus wall, without possible differentiation of the middle and low nasal turbinate. The patient was treated with transnasal functional sinus surgery; pathology stated AM. AM in the maxillary sinus is rare, locally destructive and therefore as a gold standard is resected radically to prevent recurrence. We demonstrate a conservative approach; explicitly, we combined a transvestibular and functional endoscopic sinus surgery resection of the AM to maintain function and reduce the possibility of postoperative impairments. Whether the strategy of treatment for AM is conservative, it nonetheless can result in a recurrence-free status. Nevertheless, inclusion into an oncological follow-up-programme with regularly performed MRI and CT is recommended.

Abstract
Ameloblastoma is locally aggressive benign odontogenic tumour with increased risk of recurrence rate. The choice of treatment depends on the histologic subtype. Radical therapy is the recommended modality for solid ameloblastomas. The possibilities of recurrence even after enbloc resection are still high. The author presents two case reports of recurrent ameloblastomas postradical resection. First case describes the recurrence of ameloblastoma in the bone graft which was used for reconstruction, and the second case depicts recurrence in the infratemporal fossa. Intraoperative radiography of the frozen section of the soft tissue margin plays an important role in the holistic management of these lesions.

Abstract
Purpose Ameloblastoma is a non-encapsulated and slow-growing tumor with high recurrence rate. Orbital involvement by this neoplasm is an extremely rare entity. In this study, we present a systematic review on this situation along with clinical and paraclinical features of a case. Methods An electronic search was conducted on major medical sources. Data of the cases in the literature in addition to our own case were extracted, summarized, and statistically analyzed. Results A total of 36 other cases from 20 relevant studies were also reviewed. Review topics included epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathologic features, differential diagnosis, imaging, treatment, and prognosis. We provided a five-year history of a 50-year-old man with orbital/skull base invasion of plexiform maxillary ameloblastoma. Conclusions Maxillary ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive neoplasm, and physicians must be alert to the biologic behavior of this tumor to detect any invasion to critical structures such as orbit and cranium. Orbital ameloblastoma causes significant morbidity and mortality. We advocate meticulous patient follow-up with regular clinical examinations and paraclinical work-up for timely detection of any invasion or recurrence. The best must be done to avoid extensions by aggressive removal of maxillary ameloblastoma.
