Metaplastic carcinoma of the breast – Case report and review of literature

A Rare and Intriguing Case Report of Metaplastic Breast Carcinoma

Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare and aggressive subtype of breast cancer characterized by the presence of both epithelial and mesenchymal components within the tumor. Its clinical and radiological appearance is comparable to other types of breast cancer, but it grows rapidly. The diagnosis of metaplastic carcinoma is largely based on the epithelial origin of the cells confirmed by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Compared to invasive ductal carcinoma, metaplastic carcinoma has a worse overall survival rate. Any patient with a rapidly growing breast mass should be assessed with suspicion of sarcomatoid or metaplastic malignant neoplasm. We report this case due to its rarity and the complex nature of the disease.

Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Breast: An Unusual Clinical Presentation

Breast sarcomatoid carcinoma, which are malignant tumors that form from the mesenchymal tissue of the mammary gland, are extremely uncommon and come in two varieties: primary and secondary (development associated to therapy). Breast sarcomas are malignancies that are aggressive and have a bad prognosis. Multidisciplinary surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are among the treatment possibilities. This case report reports a case of 35-year-old female presented to our hospital with a palpable tumor in her right breast and pungent discharge from her nipples. These signs persisted for over five years. A sarcomatoid breast cancer was discovered by postoperative histology.
