Abstract
A bifunctional ligand H2L featuring primary (pyrazole) and secondary (acetylacetone) coordination sites was preferentially reacted with dimetallic [M2(NO3)2](NO3)2 linkers at the pyrazolyl end of H2L, giving rise to dimetallic corners. Subsequently, the corners serve as the secondary site with M' to form water-soluble organo-heterometallic [M12M'4L12] cages in a stepwise mode.

Abstract
Reactions of a cis-blocked Pd(ii) 90° acceptor [cis-(tmeda)Pd(NO3)2] (M) with 1,4-di(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzene (H2L1 ) and [1,3,5-tri(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzene] (H3L2 ) in 1 : 1 and 3 : 2 molar ratios respectively, yielded soft metallogels G1 and G2 [tmeda = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine]. Post-metalation of the gels G1 and G2 with M yielded highly water-soluble edge and face directed self-assembled Pd12 tetrahedral nano-cages T1 and T2, respectively. Such facile conversion of Pd(ii) gels to discrete tetrahedral metallocages is unprecedented. Moreover, distinct self-sorting of these two tetrahedral cages of similar sizes was observed in the self-assembly of M with a mixture of H2L1 and H3L2 in aqueous medium. The edge directed tetrahedral cage (T1) was successfully used to perform Michael reactions of a series of water insoluble nitro-olefins assisted by encapsulation into the cage in aqueous medium.

Abstract
The self-assembly of (TMEDA)Pd(NO(3))(2) or (TMEDA)Pt(NO(3))(2) (where TMEDA = N(1),N(1),N(2),N(2)-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine) and anthracene- or ferrocene-based diimidazole ligands (L(1-3)) in aqueous solution affords a series of positively charged [M(2)L(2)](4+) dimetallomacrocycles. Their structures were characterized by (1)H NMR and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and in the cases of {[(TMEDA)Pd](2)L(1)(2)}(NO(3))(4) (1), {[(TMEDA)Pd](2)L(1)(2)}(PF(6))(4) (1a), and {[(TMEDA)Pd](2)L(3)(2)}(NO(3))(4) (4) by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Interestingly, the NMR spectra of 1 and 1a revealed that the difference of their structures, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, was that a NO(3)(-) of 1 was encapsulated inside the cavity of the basket-shaped metallomacrocycle by C-H···O hydrogen bonds, while PF(6)(-) of 1a was bound outside by C-H···F hydrogen bonds. The fluorescence titration experiment exhibited the formation of 1:1 host-guest complexation for anthracene-based positively charged [M(2)L(2)](4+)-type metallomacrocycles with NO(3)(-). The interactions between metallomacrocycles and various anions were investigated via fluorescence titration and cyclic voltammetry studies, respectively.

Abstract
Two palladium(II) complexes, [Pd(phen)(N identical withCCH(3))(2)][O(3)SCF(3)](2) (1) and [Pd(phen)(mu-OH)](2)[O(3)SCF(3)](2).2H(2)O (2) (where phen= 1,10-phenanthroline), have been crystallized following the reaction of Pd(phen)Cl(2) with silver triflate, Ag(O(3)SCF(3)), in acetonitrile and water, respectively. The structures of both complexes are based on a Pd(phen)(2+) metal core, with two acetonitrile molecules binding in a monodentate fashion in complex 1 and two hydroxo bridges holding together two cores to form a dimer in complex 2. Additionally, both complexes present a hydrogen bonded 3-D network involving the triflate anions in 1, and water and triflate anions in 2. Both complexes have been characterized by infrared and (1)H NMR spectroscopy and their crystal structures determined by X-ray crystallography.
