Abstract
Herein, we present a comprehensive review focusing on synthetic strategies, detailed structural analysis, and anticancer activity investigations of complexes following the general formula [LnM(μ-diphosphine)M'Lm] where M = group 8 metal; M' = any transition metal; μ-diphosphine = bridging ligand; Ln and Lm = ligand spheres). Both homo- and heteromultimetallic complexes will be discussed in detail. We review in vitro, in vivo and in silico anticancer activity investigations, in an attempt to draw comparisons between the various complexes and derive structure-activity relationships (SAR). This review solely focuses on complexes falling under the general formula stated above that have been studied for their anticancer activities, other complexes falling into that scheme but which have not undergone anticancer testing are not included in this review. We compare the anticancer activities of these complexes to their mononuclear counterparts, and a positive control (cisplatin) when possible and present a summary of all existing data to date and attempt to draw some conclusions on the future development of these complexes.

Abstract
A series of benzimidazolium salts and their [RhCl(NHC)(COD)] complexes were synthesized. All compounds were screened for in vitro cytotoxic activities against a panel of human cancer cells (HT-29 colon, Ishikawa endometrial, U-87 glioblastoma) using the MTT assay for 48 h incubation time.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are organic compounds that typically mimic the chemical properties of phosphines. NHCs have made a significant impact on the field of coordination and organometallic chemistry because they are easy to prepare and handle and because of their versatility and stability. Importantly, the physicochemical properties of NHCs can be easily fine-tuned by simple variation of substituents on the nitrogen atoms. Over the past few years, various NHC–metal complexes have been extensively used as metal-based drug candidates and catalysts (homogeneous or heterogeneous) for various applications. To help assist future work with these compounds, this review provides a thorough review on the latest information involving some biomedical applications of NHC–metal complexes. Specifically, this article focuses on recent advances in the design, synthesis, characterization and biomedical applications (e.g., antimicrobial and anticancer activity) of various NHC–metal complexes (metal: silver, gold, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and platinum) covering work published from 2015 to 2020. It is hoped that the promising discoveries to date will help accelerate studies on the encouraging potential of NHC–metal complexes as a class of effective therapeutic agents.

Abstract
Twelve novel half-sandwich IrIII-NHC complexes [(η5-Cpx)Ir(C^O)Cl] were synthesized and characterized. These complexes showed higher cytotoxic activity toward A549 cells and HeLa cells than cisplatin. An increase in the number of contained phenyl groups was related to better anticancer activity. The reaction of complexes with nucleobases 9-MeA, nucleobases 9-EtG, plasmid DNA and CT-DNA showed no significant effects. These complexes captured hydrogen from NADH and converted it to NAD+, which produced the reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS led to a decrease in the mitochondrial membrane potential and lysosomal damage, finally inducing apoptosis.
