Effect of different reductants on the composition and photocatalytic performances of Ag/AgIO3 hybrids prepared by in-situ reduction method

Synergistic effect of Fe doping and oxygen vacancy in AgIO3 for effectively degrading organic pollutants under natural sunlight

In this work, a series of hydrogenated Fe-doped AgIO3 (FAI-x) catalysts are synthesized for photodegrading diverse azo dyes and antibiotics. Under the irradiation of natural sunlight with a light intensity of ∼60 mW/cm2, the optimum FAI-10 exhibits a considerable rate constant for decomposing methyl orange (MO) of 0.067 min-1, about 7.4 times higher than that of AgIO3 (0.009 min-1), and 24.6% and 83.8% of MO can be decomposed over AgIO3 and FAI-10 after irradiation for 40 min. In the amplification photodegradation experiments with using 0.5 g catalyst and 400 mL MO dye solution (10 mg/L), FAI-10 possesses greatly higher photoreactivity to common semiconductors (ZnO, TiO2, In2O3 and Bi2MoO6), and the photodegradation rates over FAI-10 are 92%. Particularly, the FAI-10 shows superior stability, the activity of which remains unaltered after 8 continuous cycles. Foreign ions and water bodies have slight effect on the activity of FAI-10, but the MO degradation rates are decreased by adjusting pH values, especially when pH = 11 because of the strong electrostatic repulsion between MO and FAI-10. FAI-10 can also effectively decompose another azo dye (rhodamine B (RhB)) and diverse antibiotics (sulflsoxazole (SOX), chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC), tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) and ofloxacin (OFX)). The activity enhancement mechanism of FAI-10 has been systemically investigated and is ascribed to the promoted photo-absorption, charge separation and transfer efficiency, and affinity of organic pollutants, owing to the synergistic effect of Fe doping and oxygen vacancy (Ov). The photocatalytic mechanisms and process for decomposing MO are verified and proposed based on radical trapping experiments and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This work opens an avenue for the fabrication of effective photocatalysts toward water purification.

Fully-Solution-Processed Enhancement-Mode Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Carbon Nanotube Thin Film Transistors Based on BiI3 -Doped Crosslinked Poly(4-Vinylphenol) Dielectrics for Ultralow-Power Flexible Electronics

The threshold voltage (V_th ) adjustment of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) thin film transistors (TFTs) is one of the research hotspots due to its key role in energy consumption control of CMOS circuits. Here, ultralow-power flexible CMOS circuits based on well-matched enhancement-mode (E-mode) CMOS single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) TFTs are successfully achieved through tuning the work function of gate electrodes, electron doping, and printing techniques. E-mode P-type CMOS SWCNT TFTs with the full-solution procedure are first obtained through decreasing the work function of Ag gate electrodes directly caused by the deposition of bismuth iodide (BiI₃ )-doped solid-state electrolyte dielectrics. After synthetic optimization of dielectric compositions and semiconductor printing process, the flexible printed E-mode SWCNT TFTs show the high I_on /I_off ratios of ≈10⁶ , small subthreshold swing (SS) of 70-85 mV dec^-1 , low operating voltages of ≈0.5 to -1.5 V, good stability and excellent mechanical flexibility during 10 000 bending cycles. E-mode N-type SWCNT TFTs are then selectively achieved via printing the polarity conversion ink (2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP)  as electron  doping agent) in P- type TFT channels. Last, printed SWCNT CMOS inverters are successfully constructed with full rail-to-rail output characteristics and the record unit static power consumption of 6.75 fW µm^-1 at V_DD of 0.2 V.

Design, synthesis, and characterization of novel eco-friendly chitosan-AgIO3 bionanocomposite and study its antibacterial activity

This work reports a facile and green approach to preparing AgIO₃ nanoparticles decorated with chitosan (chitosan-AgIO₃). The bionanocomposite was fully characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The antibacterial effect of chitosan-AgIO₃ bionanocomposite was investigated for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus as pathogen microorganisms via the plate count method, disk diffusion method, and optical density (OD) measurements. The antibacterial performance of the bionanocomposite was compared with two commercial drugs (penicillin and silver sulfadiazine) and in some cases, the synthesized bionanocomposite has a better effect in the eradication of bacteria. The bionanocomposite represented great antibacterial properties. Flow cytometry was performed to investigate the mechanism of bionanocomposite as an antibacterial agent. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was responsible for the bactericidal mechanisms. These results demonstrate that the chitosan-AgIO₃ bionanocomposite, as a kind of antibacterial material, got potential for application in a broad range of biomedical applications and water purification. The design and synthesis of green and biodegradable antibacterial materials with simple processes and by using readily available materials cause the final product to be economically affordable and could be scaled in different industries.
