Synthesis and characterization of MnII and CoII complexes with poly (vinyl alcohol-nicotinic acid) for photocatalytic degradation of Indigo carmine dye

Self-assembled low molecular weight chitosan-based cationic micelle for improved water solubility, stability and sustained release of α-tocopherol

New amphiphilic low molecular weight chitosan-graft-nicotinic acid bearing decyl groups (LCND) was synthesized by two-step reaction and spontaneously assembled into cationic micelle by ultra-sonication method to improve water solubility and photostability properties of α-tocopherol. The chemical structure of LCND was characterized and physical properties of cationic micelle were evaluated. Results displayed that cationic micelle exhibited strong self-assemble ability with nanoscale spherical morphology and showed best loading ability with loading content of 18.50% when the feeding ratio of LCND to α-tocopherol reached 10:3. Meanwhile, the greatly enhanced water solubility, photostability and sustained release behavior of α-tocopherol in cationic micelle were observed. The cumulative release of α-tocopherol in cationic micelle reached up 82.18% within 96 h while free α-tocopherol was completely released within 10 h. Additionally, release kinetics models were also fitted. The LCND cationic micelle could be promising nanocarrier for improving the physicochemical properties of α-tocopherol in food fields.

Eco-friendly TEMPO/laccase/O2 biocatalytic system for degradation of Indigo Carmine: operative conditions and laccase inactivation

The biocatalytic system laccase/TEMPO/O₂ has attracted the attention of researchers over the past two decades. A variety of applications for the system include organic synthesis, modification of cellulose, and oxidative degradation of environmental contaminants. A rigorous and predictable quantitative assessment of the change in enzymatic activity under the influence of a mediator is important for such a system. In this study, the operative conditions for carrying out a model reaction for the degradation of the synthetic dye Indigo Carmine in the presence of Trametes versicolor laccase/TEMPO were determined and the enzyme inactivation under the action of a mediator and substrate was studied. The long-term stability of Trametes versicolor laccase was assessed and the regression model of the response surface of laccase activity under the influence of TEMPO was created. It has been shown that laccase is inactivated in the presence of TEMPO, but the addition of the dye, CuSO₄ or CuCl₂ reduces this effect. The system under study can be used repeatedly for the Indigo Carmine decolorization, however, a gradual falling rate during the process is observed from cycle to cycle. This is due to two reasons - firstly, a decrease in the enzyme activity with each batch and secondly, the consumption of the mediator (22% within 5 days). Relatively high enzyme activity (>40%) is maintained after 73 cycles (1 portion of IC contained 25 μM) using 500 μM TEMPO and 0.12 U mL^-1 laccase. The laccase/TEMPO system has shown its effectiveness in the treatment of artificial wastewater containing high concentrations of Indigo carmine (0.5 g L^-1). In this case, the dye solution becomes 100% colorless within 5 hours in the presence of dye bath components and within 7.5 hours in a buffer solution.

The Crystal Structure of 2-Amino-4-(2,3-Dichlorophenyl)-6-Methoxy-4H-Benzo[h]chromene-3-Carbonitrile: Antitumor and Tyrosine Kinase Receptor Inhibition Mechanism Studies

The target compound, 2-amino-4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-6-methoxy-4H-benzo[h]chromene -3-carbonitrile (4), was synthesized via the reaction of 4-methoxynaphthalen-1-ol (1), 2,3-dichlorobenzaldehyde (2), and malononitrile (3) in an ethanolic piperidine solution under microwave irradiation. The synthesized β-enaminonitrile derivative (4) was characterized by spectral data and X-ray diffraction. The in vitro anti-proliferative profile was conducted against five cancer cell lines and was assessed for compound 4, which revealed strong and selective cytotoxic potency. This derivative showed promising inhibition efficacy against the EGFR and VEGFR-2 kinases in comparison to Sorafenib as a reference inhibitor. Lastly, the docking analysis into the EGFR and VEGFR-2 active sites was performed to clarify our biological findings.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activity of CoO Nanoparticles from a Co (II) Complex Derived from Polyvinyl Alcohol and Aminobenzoic Acid Derivative

Cobalt oxide nanoparticles (CoO NPs) were synthesized by the calcination method from the Co (II) complex which has the formula [Co(PVA)(P-ABA)(H₂O)₃], PVA = polyvinyl alcohol, and P-ABA = para-aminobenzoic acid. The calcination temperature was 550°C, and the products were characterized by element analysis, thermal analyses (TGA and DTA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectra, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters (∆H  ^∗ , ∆G  ^∗ , and ∆S  ^∗ ) for the cobalt (II) complex are calculated. The charges been carried by the atoms cause dipole moment 10.53 and 3.84 debye and total energy 11.04 × 10² and 24.80 × 10² k Cal mol^-1 for the Co (II) complex and cobalt oxide, respectively. X-ray diffraction confirmed that the resulting oxide was pure single-crystalline CoO nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy indicating that the crystallite size of cobalt oxide nanocrystals was in the range of 36-54 nm. Finally, the antimicrobial activity of cobalt oxide nanoparticles was evaluated using four bacterial strains and one fungal strain. Two strains of Gram-positive cocci (Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis), two strains of Gram-negative bacilli (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and one strain of yeast such as fungi (Candida albicans) were used in this study.

Synthesis, Cytotoxic Activity, Crystal Structure, DFT Studies and Molecular Docking of 3-Amino-1-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)-8-methoxy-1H-benzo[f]chromene-2-carbonitrile

The target compound 3-amino-1-(2,5-d ichlorophenyl)-8-methoxy-1H-benzo[f]-chromene-2-carbonitrile (4) was synthesized via a reaction of 6-methoxynaphthalen-2-ol (1), 2,5-dichlorobenzaldehyde (2), and malononitrile (3) in ethanolic piperidine solution under microwave irradiation. The newly synthesized β-enaminonitrile was characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction data. Its cytotoxic activity was evaluated against three different human cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231, A549, and MIA PaCa-2 in comparison to the positive controls etoposide and camptothecin employing the XTT cell viability assay. The analysis of the Hirshfeld surface was utilized to visualize the reliability of the crystal package. The obtained results confirmed that the tested molecule revealed promising cytotoxic activities against the three cancer cell lines. Furthermore, theoretical calculations (DFT) were carried out with the Becke3-Lee-Yang-parr (B3LYP) level using 6-311++G(d,p) basis. The optimization geometry for molecular structures was in agreement with the X-ray structure data. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap of the studied system was discussed. The intermolecular-interactions were studied through analysis of the topological-electron-density(r) using the QTAIM and NCI methods. The novel compound exhibited favorable ADMET properties and its molecular modeling analysis showed strong interaction with DNA methyltransferase 1.
