Structural characteristics and optical properties of methylcellulose/polyaniline films modified by low energy oxygen irradiation

Influence of TiO2 Nanoparticles on Enhancing the Properties Activity of Organic Polymeric Materials for Industrial Applications

Novel composite (MC/TiO2) films consisting of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) and organic polymer methylcellulose (MC), were synthesized for applied in photocatalysis and industrial sectors. The preparation of the nanocomposites MC/TiO2 films were verified successfully by EDX technique, which demonstrated the uniform distribution of TiO2 in the MC. Moreover, in frequency of 20 Hz to 5.5 MHz, the dielectric properties of MC as a function of TiO2 concentration were determined. The conductivity improved from 5.8 × 10−8 S.cm−1 for MC to 3.8 × 10−6 S.cm−1 for the composite MC/TiO2, and the dielectric constant ε ′ has risen from 87 for MC to 179 for the composite MC/TiO2. In addition, the energy density increases from 3.86 × 10−4 J m−3 for MC to 7.94 × 10−4 J m−3 for MC/TiO2, and the relaxation time τ r dropped from 11.5 × 10−5 sec to 2.58 × 10−5. In summary, the data investigated that the dielectric characteristics of MC/TiO2 were modified for usage in different applications as wastewater treatment and energy storage devices.

Surface Characterization and Electrical Properties of Low Energy Irradiated PANI/PbS Polymeric Nanocomposite Materials

In this work, nanocomposite samples of polyaniline (PANI) and lead sulfide nanoparticles (PbSNPs) were prepared, utilizing the solution preparation method, for implantation in energy storage elements. The PANI/PbS films were irradiated by different fluences of oxygen beam: 5 × 1016, 10 × 1016, and 15 × 1016 ions.cm−2. The composite was investigated by XRD, SEM, DSC, and FTIR. After ion irradiation, the Tg and Tm values decreased by 4.8 °C and 10.1 °C, respectively. The conductivities, electrical impedances, and electrical moduli of untreated and irradiated samples were examined in frequencies ranging from 102 Hz to 5 MHz. Moreover, the ion beam caused a modification in the dielectric characteristics of PANI/PbS. The dielectric constant ε′ was improved from 31 to 611, and the electrical conductivity increased from 1.45 × 10−3 S/cm to 25.9 × 10−3 S/cm by enhancing the fluence to 15 × 1016 ions.cm−2. Additionally, the potential energy barrier, Wm, decreased from 0.43 eV to 0.23 eV. The induced changes in the dielectric properties and structural characteristics of the PANI/PbS samples were determined. These modifications provide an opportunity to use irradiated PANI/PbS samples for several applications, including microelectronics, batteries, and storage of electrical energy.

Emerging Applications of Versatile Polyaniline-Based Polymers in the Food Industry

Intrinsically conducting polymers (ICPs) have been widely studied in various applications, such as sensors, tissue engineering, drug delivery, and semiconductors. Specifically, polyaniline (PANI) stands out in food industry applications due to its advantageous reversible redox properties, electrical conductivity, and simple modification. The rising concerns about food safety and security have encouraged the development of PANI as an antioxidant, antimicrobial agent, food freshness indicator, and electronic nose. At the same time, it plays an important role in food safety control to ensure the quality of food. This study reviews the emerging applications of PANI in the food industry. It has been found that the versatile applications of PANI allow the advancement of modern active and intelligent food packaging and better food quality monitoring systems.
