Abstract
Background Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread chronic pain. Although pain is the main symptom, approximately 90% of patients have depression. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Resistance Training (RT) with low and high intensity on depression in patients with FM. Methods Thirty-eight women with FM and 31 healthy women were allocated to the low-intensity, high-intensity, preferred-intensity, and control groups. The patients underwent 8 weeks of supervised RT, with two sessions per week of approximately 1 h. The low-intensity resistance training group (LIRT) performed two sets of 12 maximum repetitions. The high-intensity resistance training group (HIRT) performed four sets with six maximum repetitions, and the preferred intensity group (PI) performed three sets, with eight to 12 repetitions, according to the patient's tolerance. The healthy control group did not perform any type of exercise. Depression was assessed using the Beck depression inventory before the start of the intervention, after 4 and 8 weeks. Results FM patients have higher levels of depression than women without the disease. After 4 weeks, there was a difference in depressive symptoms between the HIRT and LIRT (p = 0.048), and the PI and LIRT (p = 0.048). Conclusion Prescribing RT with low or high intensity did not significantly reduce depression in patients with FM after 8 weeks, however, analyses between groups after 4 weeks indicated that low-intensity training is more effective than high-intensity training. The prescription of RT exercise to FM could vary among low, high, and preferred intensity, following the patient's tolerance for pain. Abstract
BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal chronic pain is a leading cause of global disability and laboral incapacity. However, there is a lack of population-based studies that investigate the relationship between chronic pain and mental disorders with a control group, particularly among low- and middle-income countries. Chronic pain is a serious public health problem in terms of human suffering, and in terms of socioeconomic implications. Frequent association with different mental disorders increases disability, decreases quality of life, and makes diagnosis and treatment challenging. The present study aimed to evaluate the presence of mental disorders in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain and compare with a control group without pain. METHODS We selected 100 patients in a regular follow-up at the Musculoskeletal Pain Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital and compared them with 100 painless individuals from the control group from June 2016 to June 2018. The instruments used were the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI-PLUS) and a structured questionnaire to collect sociodemographic data. Statistical analysis used t-test, chi-square, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney, Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, and multiple logistic regression. RESULTS In the sample evaluated, the majority of patients were women (83%), of brown color (54%), with lower-level education (51%), lower salary range (73%) and high absenteeism rate at work (60,7%). Patients with chronic pain had more psychiatric disorders (88% vs. 48% in the control group; p < 0.001). The most frequent diagnoses were anxiety disorders with panic attacks (44%), generalized anxiety (36%), mixed anxiety and depression disorder (33%), social phobia (30%), agoraphobia (29%), suicide risk (28%), and major depression (27%). CONCLUSION Positive correlations of mental disorders and chronic musculoskeletal pain have been documented. This suggests that psychiatric components must be taken into account in the management of chronic pain syndromes. The use of Mini Plus as a diagnostic tool for psychiatric disorders can contribute to optimizing the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic pain and encourage the creation of policies with strategies and criteria for quick access to Multi-professional Services.

Abstract
PURPOSE Analyze the effects of interventions with home-based physical exercise on the health of patients with fibromyalgia and the characteristics of the protocols used. METHODS This systematic review was registered at PROSPERO and followed the PRISMA recommendations. Searches were performed in six electronic databases. Eligibility criteria for the selection of studies were compiled using the acronym PICOS. Data were extracted and checked in a Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet and the risk of bias was assessed using the Rob 2 tool. RESULTS The search resulted in seven studies included for analysis. Among them, the most common modality was aerobic exercise. The analyzed outcomes were: pain, quality of life, depression, anxiety, disease severity, physical function, pain catastrophizing, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, sleep quality and somatosensory and temporal discrimination. The effects of home-based exercise are limited, and improvements in pain and quality of life was found. For the other outcomes, the results were inconclusive. Most studies presented some concerns about the risk of bias. CONCLUSION It is necessary to expand the evidence on home-based exercises for fibromyalgia, as this is the first systematic review on the subject. Subsequent research should focus on methodological rigor and protocol detail, allowing findings to be replicated.

Abstract
Fibromyalgia (FM) affects 2% to 8% of the general population. FM patients often experience self-stigma and feel rejected by healthcare providers and families, resulting in isolation and distressing symptoms of pain, fatigue, and poor cognitive functioning, increasing the risk of depressive symptoms. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is the most common comorbidity in FM patients (Any depression: 43%; MDD: 32%). Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified a common genetic risk loci for major depression and fibromyalgia. Given that even minor symptoms of depression worsen the outcomes of FM patients, clinicians are challenged to identify and manage depression in these patients. However, due to overlapping symptoms, limited screening, and contamination bias, MDD often goes undiagnosed and presents a critical challenge. Unrecognized and untreated MDD in FM patients can exacerbate fatigue, sleep disturbances, and pain, reduce physical functioning, and increase the risk of developing comorbid conditions, such as substance abuse and cardiovascular disease. These comorbidities are associated with a lower treatment response rate, a higher dropout rate, and a greater risk of relapse. Clinicians may effectively identify and treat MDD in FM patients with appropriate pharmacologic agents combined with aerobic exercise and cognitive-behavioral therapies for core FM symptoms, thus significantly reducing symptom severity for both MDD and FM. Such a comprehensive approach will result in a much-improved quality of life. MedLine content was searched via PubMed to identify eligible articles between 1995 and 2023 using search terms fibromyalgia, major depressive disorder, and treatment of depression in fibromyalgia, and the most current information is presented. In this primer for clinicians caring for FM patients, we describe clinically relevant pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management approaches for treating MDD in FM patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Fibromyalgia-related pain is influenced by numerous factors, including severity, as well as cognitive profiles based on pain catastrophizing or activity patterns. In this context, self-efficacy is identified as a potential predictor for explaining certain health outcomes. This study aimed to contribute to exploring the role of pain avoidance (as activity pattern) between pain severity and self-efficacy along pain catastrophizing. METHODS Through a cross-sectional study, a total of 264 women with fibromyalgia completed self-report measures of pain severity, pain avoidance, pain catastrophizing, and self-efficacy. The severity of the symptoms, the time elapsed since diagnosis, and the time elapsed since the onsets of symptoms were included as covariates to control. Regression-based moderated-mediation analysis was used to test the conditional effect of pain severity on self-efficacy via pain avoidance at varying levels of pain catastrophizing. RESULTS Pain avoidance mediated the effect of pain severity on self-efficacy. The indirect effects showed a moderated effect when patients scored high on the pain catastrophizing scale. The model evaluated, where catastrophic pain moderates the indirect effect of pain intensity on self-efficacy through pain avoidance, explained 49% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS Catastrophic beliefs associated with pain as being uncontrollable increase the relationship between pain severity and pain avoidance. In turn, pain avoidance is associated with a low perception of capacity.

Abstract
To explore the characteristic of competitive adsorption of formaldehyde (HCHO) and benzene(C6H6) on activated carbon, the slit models of activated carbon with different pore sizes of 1 nm, 2 nm and 4 nm were constructed by using the Visualizer module of Materials Studio molecular simulation software. The adsorption of single-component C6H6 and HCHO at three different temperatures of 288.15K,293.15K and 323.15K were conducted by the method of grand canonical Monte Carlo. Experiments were carried out to verify the accuracy of simulation results. For the single-compound adsorption, the adsorption amount of C6H6 varied little at different temperature conditions, while the pore size had a significant effect on the adsorption amount of C6H6, and the adsorption capability increased as the pore size goes up. The adsorption capacity of HCHO decreased as the temperature goes up, and the adsorption capacity of both 1 nm and 4 nm pore size activated carbon was less than that of 2 nm pore size. As for the competitive adsorption, HCHO has a better adsorption effect by activated carbon when the pore is in small size like 1 nm, while the competitive adsorption ability of C6H6 is much better than HCHO as the pore size goes up to 2 nm or 4 nm.Implications: (1) Understanding the equilibrium process of activated carbon adsorption at the molecular level based on the co-existence of multi-component VOCs. (2) The effects of concentration, temperature and humidity factors on the coupling of the dynamic equilibrium of competing adsorption of benzene and formaldehyde were analyzed. (3) The accuracy of the molecular simulations was verified using an experimental approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Air pollution, in addition to presenting health risks, can impact the practice of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) in older adults. This study analyzed the impact of air pollution on the health of older adults during PA and SB, through a systematic review. METHODS A keyword and reference search was performed in PubMed, SCOPUS, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. Predetermined selection criteria included study designs: interventions or experiments, retrospective or prospective cohort studies, cross-sectional studies and case-control studies; population: older adults aged 60 years or older; exposures: specific air pollutants (particulate matter (PM), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), black carbon (CN), ultrafine particles (PU), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and biomass fuels) indoors and outdoors; and outcomes: physical activity and/or sedentary behavior. RESULTS The beneficial effects of PA were attenuated or harmed in 11 studies, showing negative impacts on the health of the older adults, mainly by PM2.5 pollutants. On the other hand, in 10 studies the effects of PA were greater than the negative effects of air pollutants, with a greater frequency in relation to PM2.5. In general, even the articles presenting controversial results suggest that practicing PA in polluted environments is more favorable to the health of older adults than remaining in SB. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS On the one hand, air pollution negatively impacted the health of the older adults during PA practices, while on the other hand, PA can mitigate the negative effects of pollutants on the health of older adults during the practices. Evidence shows that practicing PA in environments with low concentrations of pollutants can provide gains and reduce health risks. Remaining in SB in environments with high levels of air pollution worsens the health of older adults.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to look at the effects of low and high intensity resistance training (RT) on the mood states of fibromyalgia patients (FM). A total of 69 women participated in the study, with 31 healthy women serving as control group (HC), and 28 women diagnosed with FM being randomly assigned to one of two RT groups: low intensity or high intensity. Ten women diagnosed with FM formed a group of preferred intensity (PI). FM patients were subjected to 8 weeks of supervised RT with low, high, or PI doses. The exercise protocol was the same for both groups, with large muscle group exercises. Each intervention group performed a specific number of repetitions and rest periods based on the intensity. Training sessions took place twice a week. The HC received no type of intervention. The Brunel mood scale was used to assess mood states. When the mood profiles of patients with FM and healthy women were compared, patients with FM showed a worse mood profile. Low and high intensity RT for eight weeks did not improve the mood profile of FM patients. Anger showed a significant difference between LIRT and HIRT groups in the follow-up period (p=0.01); similarly significant differences between HIRT and HC were seen at baseline and at the 4 week evaluation in vigor (p=0.01 and p=0.001) and fatigue (p=0.01 and p=0.03). FM patients have a worse mood profile than healthy women, and eight weeks of low and high intensity RT did not result in significant improvements.

Abstract
Introduction Pain, distress, and activities of daily living impact the lives of those with chronic pain. This study investigated distress (depressive symptoms, anxiety) on the relationship between pain (intensity and pain interference) and activities of daily living in individuals with fibromyalgia while controlling for age. Methods The current cross-sectional investigation focused on data from 123 men and women with fibromyalgia. Pain intensity, pain interference and anxiety were measured on 0-10 Likert type scales from the National Fibromyalgia Assessment Questionnaire. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory II. Activities of daily living (basic, instrumental) were measured with the Physical Activity Inventory Scale. Results It was hypothesized that the relationships between pain intensity and pain interference and activities of daily living in individuals with fibromyalgia would be mediated by the construct of distress while controlling for age. Mediation significantly occurred in both models as predicted. However, those who were older reported lower levels of pain intensity and distress than their younger counterparts, which may be related to time since diagnosis or other factors. Discussion Results of this study suggest that individuals with chronic pain conditions would benefit from treatment options which address distress, specifically depressive symptoms and anxiety.

BACKGROUND Resistance training (RT) has become an important topic for the treatment of fibromyalgia (FM); however, there are still controversies regarding its ability to significantly improve physical symptoms and a lack of adequate recommendations for evidence-based practice. AIM The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of RT on the physical symptoms of patients with FM through a systematic review with meta-analysis. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials in June 2022, according to PRISMA recommendations. The searches were carried out on the databases PubMed, Embase, Science Direct, Web of Science, PEDro, CINAHL, SciELO, and Google Scholar for gray literature, and the protocol was recorded in PROSPERO. Studies that evaluated patients with FM undergoing an RT program lasting more than 2 weeks and that analyzed physical health were selected. To carry out the meta-analysis, the recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions were followed. RESULTS In total, 13 studies were included for qualitative analysis and nine for meta-analysis. Regarding meta-analysis, a favorable improvement was found for pain ([MD = - 10.22 (95% CI: - 18.86 to - 1.58; I2: 64%; P for heterogeneity: 0.003)]; very low quality of evidence {QoE}), fatigue ([SMD = - 0.39 (95% CI: - 0.61 to - 0.17; I2: 0%; P = 0.91)]; moderate QoE), and muscle strength ([SMD = 0.94 (95% CI: 0.02 to 1.85; I2: 93%; for heterogeneity: < 0.0001)]; very low QoE) and improvement in functional capacity ([MD = 18.75 (95% CI: 4.27 to 33.22; I2: 39%; P = 0.19)]; low QoE), in the general comparison. CONCLUSION RT was effective in reducing pain and fatigue and increasing strength and functional capacity; however, due to the quality of the evidence, more studies are needed.

Abstract
Background: Previous studies have reported associations between high maternal anxiety, temporal perceptions during pregnancy, and a poor sense of self-efficacy. One type of anxiety expecting mothers experience is associated with childbirth, which previous studies have shown can be reduced by antenatal training. Recent contributions have pointed out that current prenatal courses, while providing important and useful knowledge, do not devote sufficient content to the mental health of the parturient and to the psychological issues that can arise before and after the birth. Methods: In total, 80 pregnant women were provided with a special prepartum course in which ample space was devoted to topics such as maternal mental health, parenting skills and couple relationship, relaxation techniques, and assertiveness. Perception of threat, state anxiety, temporal focus, needs and expectations, and self-efficacy were assessed by comparing this psychoeducational intervention group with a traditional antenatal course group (n = 80), and a control group (n = 80). Two-way mixed ANOVAS (3 × 2) were performed for each dependent variable considered, including the time variable (pre-course–post-course) as a factor within the participants and the group variable as a factor between the subjects. Results: The psychoeducational intervention actually induced significant and positive changes primarily on four dimensions: state anxiety, perceived self-efficacy, the need for information, and reassurance of the pregnant women who participated in this trial. Conclusions: The study suggests improving the quality of prenatal classes by paying particular attention to the content and communication used within the group, in order to gratify at the highest level, the need for information, reassurance, and sharing that characterize the parturient’s request for support. The evidence collected recommends further replicating the intervention protocol described in order to improve the psychophysical well-being of women in a delicate moment such as pregnancy and preparation for childbirth, but especially in terms of the prevention and containment of the risks of psychological distress that currently affect a significant number of women after childbirth.

Abstract
The authors aimed to provide an overview of the evidence on the effects of exercise in people with Alzheimer's disease through a comprehensive review of the existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses. A literature search was performed in CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, Scopus, and Web of Science databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The AMSTAR-2-Tool was used for the quality assessment. Twenty-three reviews fulfilled the criteria. Most of the reviews investigated the effects of aerobic exercise on Alzheimer's disease symptoms. The largest effects of exercise were seen in terms of improved cognition by multiple exercises. The majority of the reviews were rated as being of moderate quality and none were classified as having high quality. Exercise is an effective way to treat Alzheimer's disease symptoms and has a low incidence of related adverse events. As most reviews were evaluated as low-moderate quality, caution is needed in the interpretation of the results.

Abstract
Physical exercise has been used as a form of treatment for fibromyalgia, however, the results indicate the need for further investigations on the effect of exercise on different symptoms. The aim of the study was to synthesize and analyse studies related to the effect of exercise in individuals with fibromyalgia and provide practical recommendations for practitioners and exercise professionals. A search was carried out in the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases in search of randomized clinical trials (RCT) written in English. A meta-analysis was performed to determine the effectiveness of different types of exercise on the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ), and the protocol period and session duration on the pain outcome. Eighteen articles were eligible for a qualitative assessment and 16 were included in the meta-analysis. The exercise showed large evidence for the association with a reduction in the FIQ (SMD - 0.98; 95% CI - 1.49 to - 0.48). Protocols between 13 and 24 weeks (SMD - 1.02; 95% CI - 1.53 to - 0.50), with a session time of less than 30 min (SMD - 0.68 95% CI - 1.26 to - 0.11) or > 30 min and < 60 min (SMD - 1.06; 95% CI - 1.58 to - 0.53) presented better results. Better results were found after combined training protocols and aerobic exercises. It is suggested that exercise programs lasting 13-24 weeks should be used to reduce pain, and each session should last between 30 and 60 min. Abstract
Depression is common in people with fibromyalgia (FM) and osteoarthritis (OA) and has been linked to adverse health outcomes in these conditions. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in predictors of depression among individuals with FM and OA using a range of health, demographic, and psychological variables. Of the total 963 participants, 600 were diagnosed with FM, and 363 with OA. The Quality of Well-Being Scale (QWB) was used to assess health status. The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) and the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale (AIMS) were used to measure disease-specific impact. Additionally, participants completed self-efficacy and helplessness assessments. Depression was measured using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Scale (CES-D). The results of a moderated linear regression showed that higher depression scores were associated with lower health status and a greater condition impact, especially in the FM group. Self-efficacy and helplessness predicted depression in both groups, but more strongly in FM. White participants with OA were more depressed than their non-White counterparts, while the opposite was true for FM. These findings indicate that improving health status and psychological well-being might alleviate depression in both FM and OA.

Abstract
The emergence of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) at the beginning of 2020, considered a public health emergency due to its high transmission rate and lack of specific treatment, led many countries to adhere to social isolation. Although necessary, social isolation causes important psychological changes, negatively affecting the health of the population, including the older population. The aim of this study is to propose a 4-week, home-based physical exercise protocol for older people in social isolation and evaluate whether will promote positive changes in psychological variables such as anxiety, mood, depression, and stress, and in the variables sleep, quality of life, and physical capacities in the older adults. The sample will be selected in a probabilistic way from individuals aged 60 years or more from the city of Itajaí (Santa Catarina, Brazil). Of these, half will perform a home-based resistance training protocol, with 3 weekly sessions, for 4 consecutive weeks. For group allocation, patients will be randomized with a computer-generated 1:1 allocation to the physical exercise (PE) group or control group. Outcomes will be depressive symptoms, sleep quality, quality of life, stress, mood states, anxiety, and functional capacity, evaluated at baseline, after 4 weeks, and after 15 days of follow-up. This study will offer a home-based exercise protocol for older adults, with load progression and remote monitoring, thus filling a gap in the provision of PE in this population. The results will be able to identify possible improvements not only in physical health, but also in quality of life and mental health. Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic involves a new coronavirus characterized by a respiratory disease resulting from an infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The severity and fatality of COVID-19 are directly related to age and immunocompromised states, with older adults making up the vast majority of cases. The elderly with a higher risk of serious complications due to COVID-19 and deaths are also the group most susceptible to the damage of social isolation, impacting on mental health, resulting in a more sedentary lifestyle, and health problems due to several causes, implying need for greater attention, care and protection. Physical activity has shown excellent results for mental health, being used in different treatments and populations, when considering the elderly, one of the ways to mitigate this impact on mental health is the practice of physical activity. Here, we discuss the impacts of social isolation on mental health and the role of physical activity and exercise in the homes of the elderly as a way to protect the spread of other diseases from all causes during the COVID-19 pandemic period. To this end, we discuss some possibilities that can be used by the elderly in the period of social isolation, to the point of remaining active within their homes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim was to analyze the effect of one session and three sessions of strength training (ST) on pain in women with fibromyalgia (FM). METHOD Twenty-three women with FM performed three sessions of ST for a week. Each training session worked the main muscle groups and lasted 60 min. Three sets of 12 repetitions were performed with 1 min intervals in between. The load was increased based on the perception of subjective effort of each patient. Pain intensity was evaluated immediately after the first and third sessions using a Fischer digital algometer. RESULTS After the first ST session, pain reduction was observed. No significant differences were found in pain thresholds on the baseline versus the third session. The analysis of MBI demonstrated that the ST does not worsen patients' pain, indicating a 52.2% trivial effect and a 39.1% beneficial effect. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that there is no harmful effect on the pain of women with FM after an acute session of ST. We emphasize that despite the promising results, more studies on the subject are needed to help understand pain in patients with FM.

Abstract
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by generalized skeletal muscle pain and the presence of mental disorders is common among patients. As there is no cure, several treatment alternatives have been investigated, including the practice of resistance training. Thus, the aim of the current study is to analyze the effects of resistance training on the mental health of patients with fibromyalgia. This is a systematic review of the literature that followed the recommendations of the PRISMA statement. The search for articles occurred in May 2020 in the databases PubMed, Embase, Science Direct, Web of Science, PEDro, and CINAHL, as well as Google Scholar for gray literature. The protocol was recorded in PROSPERO and assessment of quality was performed using the Cochrane tool. In total, 481 studies were found in the database searches, of which seven were included in the analysis. The only variables investigated in studies related to mental health were depression and anxiety. The results demonstrate that resistance training reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety in patients with fibromyalgia. It is concluded that resistance training is efficient to improve the mental health of patients with fibromyalgia, reducing depression and anxiety. The main limitation is that few variables related to mental health were analyzed. Key Points • Resistance training improves the mental health of patients with FM. • The most commonly studied variables related to mental health are depression and anxiety. • The study protocols are similar, starting with low-intensity training and gradually increasing the intensity.

Abstract
We aimed to analyze the evidence on the effects of physical exercise in patients with fibromyalgia (FM) and to assess the characteristics of published studies, especially the quality of the evidence, through an umbrella review. This umbrella review followed the PRISMA guidelines and was documented in the PROSPERO registry (CRD42017075687). We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, SportDiscus, Scopus, Cinahl, and Cochrane Library databases. The methodological quality of systematic reviews was assessed using AMSTAR 2. We only selected systematic reviews (with or without meta-analyses) investigating the effects of any type of physical exercise in patients with FM syndrome. Thirty-seven systematic reviews (total = 477) fulfilled the criteria. Most studies were rated as being of low or moderate quality. A variety of exercises were used as treatment for FM symptoms, with positive results. Most of the reviews investigated the effects of aerobic exercise and strength training. No serious adverse events were reported. The largest effects of exercise were seen in terms of improved pain intensity and quality of life. Altogether, exercise may be an effective treatment for FM symptoms. Thus, aerobic exercise and strength training are effective programs for the treatment of FM. By summarizing the findings and effect sizes of the reviewed studies, we observed that the evidence for improvement of pain level and quality of life was the strongest. The results have potential to influence evidence-based practice. Future studies should analyze the long-term effects of exercise.

Abstract
Nordic walking's (NW) degree of effectiveness regarding health-related parameters in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a subject of debate. While NW seems to improve functionality, a clear non-motor benefit has not been demonstrated. The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the effects of 9-week NW and free walking (FW) training programs on quality of life, cognitive function, and depressive symptoms in individuals with PD. Thirty-three people with PD, (Hoehn and Yahr 1-4) were randomized into two groups: NW (n = 16) and FW (n = 17). We analyzed quality of life, cognitive function, depressive symptoms, and motor symptoms. Significant improvements were found in the overall, physical, psychological, social participation, and intimacy domains of quality of life, as well as in cognitive function and depressive symptoms for both groups. Only the NW group showed improvement in the autonomy domain. Individuals with PD had a similar enhancement of non-motor symptoms after walking training, with or without poles. However, the NW group showed a more significant improvement in the autonomy domain, strengthening the applied and clinical potential of NW in people with PD. Future studies are needed to determine the efficacy of walking training without poles in subjects with PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Preferred exercise may be beneficial for the mental health of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).This study aimed to investigate the effects of preferred exercise on the quality of life (Qol), depression, and mood states of the patients with FMS. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was a nonrandomized controlled trial. The patients with FMS were divided into an experimental group (EG; n = 22) and a control group (CG; n = 14). The patients in the EG performed their preferred exercise (resistance, walking, or stretching) for 12 weeks. CG went to a waiting list. Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory, and Brunel Mood Scale were used to evaluate the outcomes. RESULTS The EG exhibited a decrease in the total impact of FMS on the Qol, depression, tension, and mental confusion (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION Preferred exercises reduced the impact of FMS on the Qol, depression, and mental confusion of patients with FMS.

Fatigue, Physical Activity, and Mental Health in People Living With Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Fibromyalgia, and in Healthy Controls: A Comparative Cross-Sectional Survey. Abstract
This study aimed to identify biopsychosocial factors associated with fatigue, physical activity, and perceived benefits of and barriers to exercise in adults with inflammatory bowel disease and to compare them with those with fibromyalgia and healthy controls. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted. Hierarchical linear regressions were used to examine correlates of fatigue and physical activity. Analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to compare levels of fatigue and physical activity between the groups. Overall, 387 participants completed the study (inflammatory bowel disease: n = 232; fibromyalgia: n = 102; healthy controls: n = 53). Significant correlates of fatigue included pain catastrophizing (p = .006), sleep quality (p = .003), and depressive symptoms (p < .001). Perceived barriers to exercise were associated with depressive symptoms (p = .003). Correlates of perceived benefits of exercise included anxiety (p = .036), depressive symptoms (p = .014), coping (positive reframing) (p = .018), and social support (from family) (p = .033). The fibromyalgia group had the greatest fatigue interference and the lowest score for physical activity, followed by the inflammatory bowel disease group and healthy controls (p < .05). Given the interplay between depressive symptoms, fatigue, and benefits/barriers to exercise, there is a need for more psychological interventions to be developed and tested in order to reduce fatigue and increase physical activity to better manage disease-related outcomes.

Effects of physical exercise on the expression of microRNAs: A systematic review 34(1): 270-280, 2020-Studies have detected changes in the expression of miRNAs after physical exercise, which brings new insight into the molecular control of adaptation to exercise. Therefore, the objective of the current systematic review of experimental and quasiexperimental studies published in the past 10 years was to assess evidence related to acute effects, chronic effects, and both acute and chronic effects of physical exercise on miRNA expression in humans, as well as its functions, evaluated in serum, plasma, whole blood, saliva, or muscle biopsy. For this purpose, the following electronic databases were selected: MEDLINE by Pubmed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and also a manual search in references of the selected articles to April 2017. Experimental and quasiexperimental studies were included. Results indicate that, of the 345 studies retrieved, 40 studies met the inclusion criteria and two articles were included as a result of the manual search. The 42 studies were analyzed, and it can be observed acute and chronic effects of physical exercises (aerobic and resistance) on the expression of several miRNAs in healthy subjects, athletes, young, elderly and in patients with congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus type 2 associated with morbid obesity, prediabetic, and patients with intermittent claudication. It is safe to assume that miRNA changes, both in muscle tissues and bodily fluids, are presumably associated with the benefits induced by acute and chronic physical exercise. Thus, a better understanding of changes in miRNAs as a response to physical exercise might contribute to the development of miRNAs as therapeutic targets for the improvement of exercise capacity in individuals with any given disease. However, additional studies are necessary to draw accurate conclusions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of physical exercise on autonomic dysfunction in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FM). LITERATURE SURVEY AND METHODOLOGY A systematic review of experimental studies published until December 2017 that analyzed the effect of physical exercise on autonomic dysfunction in patients with FM was performed using the PubMed, Pedro, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases. SYNTHESIS A total of 1105 articles were identified, 12 of which were included in the final analysis. The most analyzed exercise modalities were aerobic and resistance exercises. Overall, the studies demonstrated that aerobic exercise performed twice a week with moderate to high intensity was effective in reducing autonomic dysfunction by increasing heart rate variability. Resistance training was associated with reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as increased muscle strength; however, it did not reduce autonomic dysfunction in these patients in the short or long term. CONCLUSIONS Preliminary evidence suggests that aerobic exercise reduces autonomic dysfunction in patients with FM, whereas resistance training reduces psychological symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Increasing evidence purports exercise as a first-line therapeutic for the treatment of nearly all forms of chronic pain. However, knowledge of efficacious dosing respective to treatment modality and pain condition is virtually absent in the literature. The purpose of this analysis was to calculate the extent to which exercise treatment shows dose-dependent effects similar to what is seen with pharmacological treatments. METHODS A recently published comprehensive review of exercise and physical activity for chronic pain in adults was identified in May 2017. This report reviewed different physical activity and exercise interventions and their effectiveness in reducing pain severity and found overall modest effects of exercise in the treatment of pain. We analyzed this existing data set, focusing specifically on the dose of exercise intervention in these studies. We re-analyzed data from 75 studies looking at benefits of time of exercising per week, frequency of exercise per week, duration of intervention (in weeks), and estimated intensity of exercise. RESULTS Analysis revealed a significant positive correlation with exercise duration and analgesic effect on neck pain. Multiple linear regression modeling of these data predicted that increasing the frequency of exercise sessions per week is most likely to have a positive effect on chronic pain patients. DISCUSSION Modest effects were observed with one significant correlation between duration and pain effect for neck pain. Overall, these results provide insufficient evidence to conclude the presence of a strong dose effect of exercise in pain, but our modeling data provide tes predictions that can be used to design future studies to explicitly test the question of dose in specific patient populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systematic reviews have the potential to contribute substantially to environmental health and risk assessment. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate indoor air quality of environments used for physical exercise and sports practice through a systematic review. METHODS The systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines and was recorded in the PROSPERO registry (CRD42016036057). The search was performed using the SciELO, Science Direct, Scopus, LILACS, MEDLINE via PubMed, and SPORTDiscus databases, from their inception through April 2017. The search terms used in the databases were {air pollution" OR "air pollutants" OR "air quality"} AND {"physical exercise" OR "physical activity" OR "sport"}. The results of selected studies were divided into 5 categories for analysis: monitoring of air quality in the environment according to international guidelines, indoor-to-outdoor ratio (I/O), air quality during physical exercise, impact of air quality on health, and interventions to improve indoor air quality. RESULTS Among 1281 studies screened, 34 satisfied the inclusion criteria. The monitoring of pollutants was conducted in 20 studies. CO and NO2 were the most investigated pollutants, and guidelines were discussed in most studies. The I/O ratio was investigated in 12 studies, of which 9 showed a higher concentration of some pollutants in indoor rather than outdoor environments. Among the 34 studies selected, only 7 investigated the impact of indoor air pollution on human health. The population in most of these studies consisted of hockey players. CONCLUSION Most studies conducted monitoring of pollutants in indoor environments used for physical exercise and sports practice. The earliest studies were conducted in ice skating rinks and the most recent evaluated gymnasiums, fitness centers, and sports centers. The CO, particulate matter, and NO2 concentrations were the most investigated and have the longest history of investigation. These pollutants were within the limits established by guidelines in most studies. Studies that examined the association between air quality documented the adverse effects of pollution. There is a need for more studies focused on the relationship between pollution and health.

Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between sleep quality and fibromyalgia symptoms in 326 patients. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was used to assess the presence of sleep disorders. Multivariate analysis of variance was performed to determine the influence of fibromyalgia symptoms on sleep quality. The prevalence of sleep disorders was 92.9 percent. Patients reported generalized pain (88.3%), memory failure (78.5%), moodiness (59%), excessive anxiety (77.5%), and concentration difficulties (69.1%). Patients with more symptoms reported poor sleep quality ( p < .05; d = .74), and the total Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score correlated with the number of symptoms ( p < .01). Sleep quality has an important association with fibromyalgia symptoms.
