Abstract
Depressive disorders are a growing problem worldwide. They are also characterized by high comorbidity, including from the circle of dermatological diseases. Autoimmune diseases seem to be particularly correlated with depressive comorbidity, raising the question of their possible common pathomechanism. The PubMed database was searched, focusing on results published after 2016. A particular reciprocal correlation of depressive disorders with psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, impetigo, lupus and systemic scleroderma was found. One possible explanation for the co-occurrence of the above diseases is that the inflammatory theory may be applicable to depression, the various elements of which also apply to autoimmune diseases.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Lichen planus (LP) is an inflammatory skin disorder that can present in various forms across the body, including lesions on the skin (cutaneous LP [CLP]), scalp (lichen planopilaris [LPP]) and mucosal regions (mucosal LP [MLP]). Several existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were identified for potential use in LP clinical development programs. This study aimed to assess the content validity and psychometric measurement properties of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Scalpdex and Oral Lichen Planus Symptom Severity Measure (OLPSSM) in an LP population. METHODS Patients completed the PROs at various time points as part of an international Phase 2 clinical study in adults with MLP (n = 37), LPP (n = 37) and CLP (n = 37). Test-retest reliability, construct validity and sensitivity to change were assessed. In addition, qualitative cognitive debriefing interviews were conducted with adults with MLP (n = 20), LPP (n = 19) and CLP (n = 19) in the USA and Germany to examine the PROM content validity. RESULTS The DLQI demonstrated adequate reliability and validity, although its ability to detect change was modest and most items were considered not relevant in qualitative interviews. The ESS had good reliability but limited evidence of validity and ability to detect change. Conceptual relevance varied according to the qualitative interview data. The Scalpdex was miscellaneous across domains, but the 'Symptoms' domain performed well overall. Overall, Scalpdex concepts were reported as relevant by most LPP patients interviewed. The OLPSSM demonstrated good psychometric properties and strong evidence of content validity. CONCLUSIONS The psychometric and qualitative findings support the use of the OLPSSM and Scalpdex within specific LP subtypes but cautioned use of the DLQI. Administration of the ESS is not recommended in LP because of its poor psychometric performance. Given these limitations, further validation of non-specific disease measures is needed and/or the development of additional LP-specific PROMs. TRIAL REGISTRATION NCT04300296.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Case identification strategies to conduct population-based studies have not been developed for lichen planus (LP) or lichen planopilaris (LPP). OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the validity of using diagnostic codes to establish both a cutaneous (non-oral) LP cohort and an LPP cohort from a large clinical database. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed to determine whether patients with ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes for LP and ICD-10 codes for LPP are confirmed cases of LP and LPP. Validation samples were used to estimate the positive predictive value (PPV) of three case definitions any LP, non-oral LP, and LPP defined as: at least one code by any physician, at least two codes by any physician, and at least one code by a dermatologist. RESULTS Among the 199 reviewed LP charts, 166 and 123 were confirmed cases of any LP and non-oral LP, respectively. The PPVs for any LP were: 83.4% (166/199) for one code by any physician, 84.6% (77/91) for two codes by any physician, and 95.1% (97/102) for one code by a dermatologist. The PPVs for non-oral LP were: 61.8% (123/199) for one code by any physician, 70.3% (64/91) for two diagnoses by any physician, and 86.3% (88/102) for one diagnosis by a dermatologist. Of the 139 patients with at least one code for LPP, 122 were confirmed cases of LPP. The case definition for one LPP code applied by any physician had a PPV of 87.8% (122/139) to identify a true case of LPP, whereas two diagnoses by any physician had a PPV of 96.2% (76/79) and a diagnosis by a dermatologist had a PPV of 93% (107/115). CONCLUSIONS Diagnosis codes for LP and LPP, restricted by the diagnosing physician's specialty, may be used to accurately identify case cohorts of overall LP, non-oral LP, or LPP in large clinical databases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Oral lichen planus with exclusive keratotic reticular, papular, and/or plaque-like lesions (K-OLP) is a clinical pattern of OLP that may be associated with a complex symptomatology and psychological alteration. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of anxiety (A) and depression (D) in patients with K-OLP, analyzing the potential predictors which can affect mental health status. METHODS Three hundred K-OLP patients versus 300 healthy controls (HC) were recruited in 15 Italian universities. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Total Pain Rating Index (T-PRI), and Hamilton Rating Scales for Depression and for Anxiety (HAM-D and HAM-A) were administered. RESULTS The K-OLP patients showed statistically higher scores in the NRS, T-PRI, HAM-D, and HAM-A compared with the HC (p-value < 0.001**). A and D were found in 158 (52.7%) and 148 (49.3%) K-OLP patients. Strong linear correlations were identified between HAM-A, HAM-D, NRS, T-PRI, and employment status and between HAM-D, HAM-A, NRS, T-PRI, employment status, and female gender. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that HAM-D and HAM-A showed the greatest increase in the R2 value for A and D in the K-OLP patients, respectively (DR2 = 55.5% p-value < 0.001**; DR2 = 56.5% p-value < 0.001**). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of A and D is higher in the K-OLP patients compared with the HC, also found in K-OLP subjects without pain, suggesting that the processing of pain may be in a certain way independent of the processing of mood. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Mood disorders and pain assessment should be carefully performed in relation to K-OLP to obtain a complete analysis of the patients.

Abstract
The role of psychosocial factors in the development of changes in lichen planus and other diseases of the oral cavity has been implicated, but is still understudied. Therefore, the aim of our study was to describe the specific profile of psychological functioning of patients with these diseases, including the role of temperamental traits, action-oriented personality components, and self-esteem. In total, 94 adult women participated in the study: (1) with lichen planus (LP; n = 46; Mage = 54.80, SD = 12.53), (2) with other oral conditions (n = 25; Mage = 34.76, SD = 16.03), (3) without chronic disease (n = 24; Mage = 40.96, SD = 13.33). The following questionnaires were used: ZKA-PQ/SF, Polish Adaptive and Maladaptive Perfectionism Questionnaire, ACS-90, PROCOS, and MSEI. Results indicated no significant differences in temperament dimensions between studied groups. However, women diagnosed with LP presented lower levels of maladaptive perfectionism and social support than healthy women. Furthermore, women with LP also obtained lower scores for social resourcefulness and higher scores for moral self-approval than healthy women. Summarizing, patients with LP often use compensatory mechanisms that negatively affect their social functioning; thus diagnostic/therapeutic programs directed towards those group should be holistic, including psychologists and psychiatrists who support patients' psychological well-being.

Abstract
Lichen planus is a chronic disease affecting the skin, appendages, and mucous membranes. A cutaneous lichen planus is a rare disease occurring in less than 1% of the general population, while oral illness is up to five times more prevalent; still, both forms equally impair the patient's quality of life. The etiology of lichen planus is not entirely understood. Yet, immune-mediated mechanisms have been recognized since environmental factors such as hepatitis virus infection, mechanical trauma, psychological stress, or microbiome changes can trigger the disease in genetically susceptible individuals. According to current understanding, lichen planus immunopathogenesis is caused by cell-mediated cytotoxicity, particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes, whose activity is further influenced by Th1 and IL-23/Th-17 axis. However, other immunocytes and inflammatory pathways complement these mechanisms. This paper presents a comprehensive insight into the actual knowledge about lichen planus, with the causal genetic and environmental factors being discussed, the immunopathogenesis described, and the principal effectors of its inflammatory circuits identified.

Therefore, we aimed to identify prevalent diseases in patients with vitiligo and quantify their associations compared with those in healthy controls. A comprehensive search of MEDLINE and EMBASE from the inception to June 2022 was conducted. Observational studies on prevalent diseases in patients with vitiligo compared with those in healthy controls were included, whereas studies limited to pediatrics or providing only laboratory results were excluded. A total of 78 studies were eligible for analyses. Patients with vitiligo showed higher risks of having comorbid autoimmune and connective tissue diseases, including alopecia areata (OR = 2.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.50‒2.78), discoid lupus erythematosus (OR = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.74‒3.72), Sjogren's syndrome (OR = 2.50, 95% CI = 1.98‒3.16), myasthenia gravis (OR = 2.30, 95% CI = 1.74‒3.02), systemic lupus erythematosus (OR = 1.96, 95% CI = 1.52‒2.52), and rheumatoid arthritis (OR = 1.82, 95% CI = 1.55‒2.15). Thyroid diseases, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, sensorineural hypoacusis, and ophthalmic abnormalities were also more prevalent in patients with vitiligo. In conclusion, vitiligo is associated with various systemic diseases. Physicians should evaluate and manage potential comorbid conditions in patients with vitiligo.

Abstract
Objective Previous studies have shown an increased in psychiatric disorders in women with disorders associated with hyperandrogenism, but few nationwide cohorts have studied this phenomenon. Therefore, this study is aimed to examine the association between the clinical manifestations of hyperandrogenism and subsequent psychiatric disorders. Methods Based on the National Health Insurance Research Database, 49,770 enrolled participants were matched for age and index date between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2015. Hirsutism, polycystic ovary syndrome, and acne are characterized by hyperandrogenism. After adjusting for confounding factors, we used Cox proportional analysis to compare the risk of psychiatric disorders during the 16 years of follow-up. Results Of all the participants, 1319 (13.25%) had psychiatric disorders in the study group, whereas only 3900(9.80%) had psychiatric disorders in the control group. After adjusting for age, and monthly income, the Cox regression analysis showed that the study patients were more likely to develop psychiatric disorders (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.004, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.327–2.724, P < 0.001). The results demonstrated that women aged 20–29 years had a more significant risk. Conclusion Women with clinical characteristics of hyperandrogenism have a higher risk of developing psychiatric disorders, especially those aged 20–29 years.
