Abstract
PURPOSE The number of older people with poor oral health diagnosed with cancer is increasing rapidly. However, integration of oral health in cancer care for older people to prevent or minimize oral health complications of cancer treatments is uncommon, except in head and neck oncology. The aim of this review is to describe the need, role of, and factors influencing the integration of oral health(care) into the treatment of older people with cancer. METHODS MEDLINE, CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched for papers published in the last 10 years that focus on oral health in older people diagnosed with cancer, the impact of oral health on cancer therapy, and integrated oral health in cancer treatment. RESULTS From 523 related papers, 68 publications were included and summarized as follows: (1) oral complications associated with cancer therapies, (2) the need for oral healthcare in older people with cancer, (3) the role of integration of oral health in cancer care, and (4) influencing factors such as ageism, interprofessional education and collaborations, oral healthcare workforce, oral health literacy, and financial considerations. CONCLUSION Integration of oral healthcare is highly recommended for the overall well-being of older people with cancer to prevent, minimize, and manage complications in cancer treatment. However, oral healthcare has not been integrated in cancer care yet, except for head and neck cancers. This review identified a notable gap in the literature, highlighting the need for research on integration of oral healthcare in geriatric oncology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To address the following research questions: (i) What is the current situation and future vision on oral healthcare service in nursing homes (NHs) in Singapore? (ii) What are the enablers to achieve the future vision? (iii) How do views differ between dentists with and without clinical experiences in NHs? BACKGROUND Oral healthcare services in NHs need to reflect the perspectives of a diverse range of stakeholders and establish shared goals, however there is scarce evidence of in-depth dentists' insights. MATERIAL AND METHODS Dentists were purposively recruited. Focus group discussions with 4-5 participants each were conducted via teleconferencing. Data were analysed thematically. RESULTS The participants (n = 19, median 36.0 years) recognised the need of comprehensive reform of the oral healthcare paradigm in NHs: symptomatic care to preventive care, disease-oriented care to person-centred care and more active collaborative care. Overall, five domains of enabling factors emerged: (1) to improve general system of oral healthcare in NHs, (2) to increase the number of dentists engaging in NHs, (3) to improve the quality of dental practice, (4) to improve the quality of daily oral care and (5) to promote seniors' cooperative attitude to oral healthcare. There was a noticeable difference in the perception on how to encourage dentists to serve in NHs. CONCLUSION There is a need for a comprehensive reform of the oral healthcare paradigm for seniors in NHs in Singapore. A multi-tiered strategy using both top-down and bottom-up approaches is required.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Good oral health is an important part of healthy ageing, yet there is limited understanding regarding the status of oral health care for older people globally. This study reviewed evidence (policies, programs, and interventions) regarding oral health care for older people. METHODS A systematic search of six databases for published and grey literature in the English language by the end of April 2022 was undertaken utilising Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review framework. RESULTS The findings from oral health policy documents (n = 17) indicated a lack of priorities in national health policies regarding oral health care for older people. The most common oral health interventions reported in the published studies (n = 62) included educational sessions and practical demonstrations on oral care for older adults, nurses, and care providers. Other interventions included exercises of facial muscles and the tongue, massage of salivary glands, and application of chemical agents, such as topical fluoride. CONCLUSION There is currently a gap in information and research around effective oral health care treatments and programs in geriatric dental care. Efforts must be invested in developing guidelines to assist both dental and medical healthcare professionals in integrating good oral health as part of healthy ageing. Further research is warranted in assessing the effectiveness of interventions in improving the oral health status of the elderly and informing approaches to assist the integration of oral health into geriatric care.

Abstract
The global aging situation is severe, and the medical pressures associated with aging issues should not be underestimated. The need and feasibility of studying aging and intervening in aging have been confirmed. Aging is a complex natural physiological progression, which involves the irreversible deterioration of body cells, tissues, and organs with age, leading to enhanced risk of disease and ultimately death. The intestinal microbiota has a significant role in sustaining host dynamic balance, and the study of bidirectional communication networks such as the brain-gut axis provides important directions for human disease research. Moreover, the intestinal microbiota is intimately linked to aging. This review describes the intestinal microbiota changes in human aging and analyzes the causal controversy between gut microbiota changes and aging, which are believed to be mutually causal, mutually reinforcing, and inextricably linked. Finally, from an anti-aging perspective, this study summarizes how to achieve delayed aging by targeting the intestinal microbiota. Accordingly, the study aims to provide guidance for further research on the intestinal microbiota and aging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral health and frailty are significantly related and should be well examined, especially in late life. Few studies have explored the relationship of oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices with frailty and examined sociodemographic variations in this association. This study aimed to examine the association between oral health knowledge, attitudes, practices and frailty, with a special focus on comparing differences in their association among the Chinese community-dwelling older population. METHODS This study included 4218 community-dwelling older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) who participated in a cross-sectional survey. Sociodemographic characteristics, oral health knowledge, attitudes, practices, and frail status (non-frailty, pre-frailty, and frailty) were collected with a face-to-face questionnaire-based interview. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association of oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices with frailty. RESULTS Of the 4218 participants, 36.2% (n = 1527) and 18.8% (n = 792) were classified as pre-frailty and frailty. Age, gender and educational attainments differences existed in the association of oral health knowledge with frailty. Urban-rural differences in the association of oral health knowledge and practices with frailty were also found. Specifically, oral health knowledge was significantly related to frailty only among participants aged 70-79 years (adjusted odds ratio [95% confidence interval]) (1.08 [1.02-1.15]), females (1.05 [1.00-1.10]), rural residents (1.06 [1.01-1.12]), and those who were primary school and lower education (1.06 [1.01-1.11]), whereas oral health practices were related to frailty only among urban participants (0.96 [0.92-1.00]). CONCLUSION This study confirmed the different associations of oral health knowledge and practices with frailty among community-dwelling older people in China. Further research is needed to better understand the abovementioned differences and public health strategies are required to improve oral health literacy and thereby contain the development of frailty in later life.

Abstract
Candida albicans (C. albicans) is the most frequent strain associated with cross-kingdom infections in the oral cavity. Clinical evidence shows the co-existence of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and C. albicans in the carious lesions especially in children with early childhood caries (ECC) and demonstrates the close interaction between them. During the interaction, both S. mutans and C. albicans have evolved a complex network of regulatory mechanisms to boost cariogenic virulence and modulate tolerance upon stress changes in the external environment. The intricate relationship and unpredictable consequences pose great therapeutic challenges in clinics, which indicate the demand for de novo emergence of potential antimicrobial therapy with multi-targets or combinatorial therapies. In this article, we present an overview of the clinical significance, and cooperative network of the cross-kingdom interaction between S. mutans and C. albicans. Furthermore, we also summarize the current strategies for targeting cross-kingdom biofilm.

Abstract
Many older individuals with dementia (OIWD) show care-resistant behavior for oral care. Providing care despite resistance is considered to be involuntary care. Although involuntary care should be minimized, in some OIWD it may be necessary to avoid health risks. This study aims to assess the attitudes of healthcare providers with regard to involuntary oral care provision for OIWD who show care-resistant behavior. An online questionnaire consisting of general questions and case specific questions was administered via social media and networking to individuals involved in the oral care of OIWD. A total of 309 participants were included in this study. The outcomes of the questionnaires were categorized per case. In all cases, a discrepancy was seen between the assessment of oral health problems as potentially harmful (range: 73.1-93.5%) and the willingness to provide involuntary care (range: 31.1-63.4%). Hence, many healthcare providers are aware of the subsequent potential health risks related to not providing care, but are still reluctant to provide involuntary oral care. Therefore, many OIWD who show care-resistant behavior potentially do not receive the necessary oral care they require.

Abstract
Background Aged people are maintaining many natural teeth due to improved oral health. However, compromised general health and poor oral hygiene habits at earlier ages resulted in poor status of preserved teeth. Therefore, tooth extraction is required in many aged people. More knowledge is needed because there are many risk factors during the surgery in frail aged adults. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular response of such a population during tooth extraction and analyze risk factors to provide clinical guidance. Methods A retrospective study was performed on aged patients with systemic diseases who underwent tooth extraction. Data regarding demographic profiles and cardiovascular parameters of heart rate and blood pressure were collected preoperative, when local anesthesia was administered, at the beginning of tooth extraction, 5 min after tooth extraction, and postoperative. The effects of risk factors, including age, sex, and systemic diseases on these parameters were analyzed with a multilevel model. Results Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of aged patients increased significantly when performing local anesthesia and tooth extraction. During the operation, the older patients (β = 2.011, P = 0.005) and the diabetics (β = 3.902, P < 0.0001) were associated with higher SBP, while those with more tooth extractions exhibited higher HR (β = 0.893, P = 0.007). Women patients showed both significantly elevated HR (β = 1.687, P < 0.0001) and SBP (β = 2.268, P < 0.0001). However, for coronary artery disease patients, HR (β = −2.747, P < 0.0001) and blood pressure [SBP (β = −4.094, P < 0.0001) and DBP (β = −0.87, P = 0.016)] were markedly lower than those of patients without a diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Conclusion Cardiovascular response of aged outpatients with systemic diseases during tooth extraction is quite significant. Age, sex, systemic diseases, and the number of tooth extraction could be risk factors closely associated with cardiovascular response. The findings might provide safety guidance for dentists on tooth extraction in this population.
