Abstract
PURPOSE It is known that clinical Pilates improves strength, core stability, balance, gait, fatigue, and quality of life (QOL) in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). On the other hand, there is insufficient information about whether similar benefits can be achieved with Pilates-based telerehabilitation (Pilates-TR). We aimed to investigate the effects of Pilates-TR on physical performance and QOL in PwMS. METHODS Thirty PwMS were recruited and randomly allocated into two groups. The Pilates-TR group received Pilates-TR via videoconferences three days per week during six weeks at home. The control group (CG) was a waitlist with no Pilates-TR treatment. Physical performance measures included extremity muscle strength, core endurance and power, balance, gait analysis, and functional exercise capacity. In addition, fatigue and QOL were evaluated. RESULTS Extremity muscle strength, core endurance and power, balance, walking speed, cadence, distance, functional exercise capacity, and QOL were improved after Pilates-TR (p < 0.05). Fatigue level and the effects of fatigue on functions decreased in Pilates-TR, while fatigue level increased in CG (p < .05). The CG showed no changes in any other measurements (p > .05). CONCLUSION Pilates-TR was effective in improving physical performance and QOL in PwMS. Pilates-TR can be recommended as an effective option, especially for patients with barriers to reaching the clinic. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04838886).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of published studies of exercise training in multiple sclerosis (MS) has grown exponentially with increasing numbers of outcomes capturing exercise effects. This has complicated the selection of relevant indicators and interpretation of intervention effects. OBJECTIVES The Outcomes subgroup of the MoXFo initiative aimed to (1) identify outcome measures and biomarkers in studies of exercise training in MS; (2) systematically map retrieved outcomes to International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) categories; (3) identify gaps where relevant ICF categories have been omitted. METHODS Electronic databases and registers were searched from 2010 to July 2020 to identify systematic reviews or meta-analyses of controlled trials of exercise training on any outcome in MS. Retrieved outcomes/biomarkers were mapped to the corresponding ICF category. RESULTS Eighty-one review articles reporting 235 different outcomes were included. The outcomes corresponded to 15 chapters and 45 categories within the ICF. Outcomes mapped primarily to body function (30 categories) and activities and participation (9 categories) components. Few outcomes mapped to body structures (2 categories) or environmental factors (1 category). CONCLUSION This sets the stage to develop a resource for researchers/clinicians that will aid in the selection of appropriate outcomes/biomarkers when examining exercise effects in MS.

Abstract
UNLABELLED It is already known the effectiveness of Pilates training on cognitive and functional abilities. It is also known that dual-task exercise and cognitive stimuli improve cognition and functional capacity. However, no previous report combined cognitive stimuli and Pilates in dual task and measured its effects on the cognitive and physical performances of postmenopausal women. OBJECTIVE To apply an interventional dual-task (PILATES-COG) protocol and to evaluate its influence on memory, language, and functional physical performances on healthy, community-dwelling postmenopausal older women. METHODS 47 women with amenorrhea for at least 12 months participated in this study. Those allocated on the PILATES-COG group underwent a 12-week, twice a week regimen of 50 min sessions of simultaneous mat Pilates exercise program and cognitive tasks. Cognitive and physical functional performance were assessed. Two-way mixed ANOVA was used for data analysis, and Bonferroni post hoc tests were used for within- and between-group comparisons. RESULTS The PILATES-COG group showed significant improvement after the intervention in semantic verbal fluency (p < 0.001; ηρ² = 0.268), phonological verbal fluency (p < 0.019; ηρ² = 0.143), immediate memory (p < 0.001; ηρ² = 0.258), evocation memory (p < 0.001 ηρ² = 0.282), lower-limb muscle strength (p < 0.001; ηρ² = 0.447), balance (p < 0.001; ηρ² = 0.398), and dual-ask cost (p < 0.05; ηρ² = 0.111) assessments on healthy, community-dwelling postmenopausal older women. CONCLUSION This is the first report of a feasible and effective approach using Pilates and cognitive stimulation in dual task for the reduction of age-related cognitive decline and the improvement of physical functional performance in healthy postmenopausal women.

Abstract
The Pilates Method is a rehabilitation tool with verified benefits in pain management, physical function, and quality of life in many different physiotherapy areas. It could be beneficial for patients with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). The aim of the study was to summarize current evidence for the effectiveness of Pilates in pwMS. A comprehensive search of Cinahl, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro, and PubMed (including PubMed Central and Medline) was conducted to examine randomized controlled trials (RCT) that included Pilates intervention in multiple sclerosis. The PEDro scale and the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, RoB-2, were used to evaluate risk of bias for RCT. Twenty RCT (999 patients) were included. Ten were of good quality (PEDro), and seven had low risk of bias (RoB-2). Pilates improves balance, gait, physical-functional conditions (muscular strength, core stability, aerobic capacity, and body composition), and cognitive functions. Fatigue, quality of life, and psychological function did not show clear improvement. There was good adherence to Pilates intervention (average adherence ≥ 80%). Cumulative data suggest that Pilates can be a rehabilitation tool for pwMS. High adherence and few adverse effects were reported. Future research is needed to develop clinical protocols that could maximize therapeutic effects of Pilates for pwMS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE Balance problems are common in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Pilates can also be treatment strategy for people with MS, but there is inadequate evidence to support or refute the efficacy of Pilates, especially on balance in MS patients. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effects of Pilates exercises on balance in people with MS. METHODS We conducted a literature search of the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE (EBSCO), Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), CINAHL (EBSCO), PUBMED, OVID, Science Direct, and Scopus databases using the following search terms: multiple sclerosis, Pilates, core stability, balance, equilibrium, postural control. All content from the date of database inception to March 2021 was included in the search. RESULTS The initial search strategy based on date range and language yielded 246 relevant records and eight of them were about both Pilates and MS. According to this evaluation, we found the significant advantage of Pilates on balance in patients with MS, when compared to the control group in the Berg Balance Scale (SMD=1.017; 95% CI=-0.040, 1.994; p = 0.041), Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale (SMD=0.604; 95% CI=-0.078, 1.130; p = 0.024), Timed Up and Go Test (SMD=0.944; 95% CI=-0.022, 1.867; p = 0.045). But in the Functional Reach Test (SMD=1.846; 95% CI=-0.080, 3.772; p = 0.060), we did not found any difference between groups. CONCLUSIONS Pilates exercises might be an optional method for improving balance in MS patients, however, we need further robust studies to prove whether it is more effective than other physiotherapy interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES A review of qualitative studies exploring Pilates-trained physiotherapists and their patients' perspectives and experiences of Pilates, aiming to improve practice and provide a deeper insight into the way this method is being utilized along with its effects on participants. DESIGN Qualitative evidence synthesis using meta-ethnography. DATA SOURCES A comprehensive search strategy, limited to English language articles, was conducted to MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, CINAHL, PEDro and Cochrane Central for the period of January 2000 (inception) to June 2020. This was supplemented by identification of Grey literature through Google Scholar, website searching and reference lists. STUDY SELECTION Qualitative studies reporting experiences and perceptions of patients' or Pilates-trained physiotherapists' regarding the efficacy of Pilates for the management of chronic musculoskeletal conditions. After a process of exclusion, eight studies were included in the synthesis. DATA EXTRACTION The textual data were analysed by a qualitative software program. Studies were critically appraised independently by two reviewers. DATA SYNTHESIS Articles were synthesized using a technique of meta-ethnography. Three themes emerged from the process of reciprocal translation: (1) Benefits of the Pilates approach; (2) most effective ways to utilize and most beneficial parameters and (3) risks, precautions, contraindications and indications. CONCLUSION This is the first qualitative evidence synthesis of practitioners' and patients' perspectives of Pilates. Findings support evidence for the various benefits of this approach and provide fresh insight into the way this method can be practiced to maximize efficiency and focus on the patients' needs. KEY RECOMMENDATIONS Pilates-trained physiotherapists identified that Pilates can be tailored to individual requirements, preferences and needs, to promote self-management to facilitate clinical and cost-effective care.
