Abstract
CO2 hydrogenation to chemicals and fuels is a significant approach for achieving carbon neutrality. It is essential to rationally design the chemical structure and catalytic active sites towards the development of efficient catalysts. Here we show a Ce-CuZn catalyst with enriched Cu/Zn-OV-Ce active sites fabricated through the atomic-level substitution of Cu and Zn into Ce-MOF precursor. The Ce-CuZn catalyst exhibits a high methanol selectivity of 71.1% and a space-time yield of methanol up to 400.3 g·kgcat-1·h-1 with excellent stability for 170 h at 260 °C, comparable to that of the state-of-the-art CuZnAl catalysts. Controlled experiments and DFT calculations confirm that the incorporation of Cu and Zn into CeO2 with abundant oxygen vacancies can facilitate H2 dissociation energetically and thus improve CO2 hydrogenation over the Ce-CuZn catalyst via formate intermediates. This work offers an atomic-level design strategy for constructing efficient multi-metal catalysts for methanol synthesis through precise control of active sites.

Abstract
A series of Cu-ZnO-Al2O3 catalysts (CZA) were prepared by glucose pretreatment and applied for methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation. The advantages of the glucose pretreatment and the effects of glucose content were investigated by XRD, N2 physisorption, SEM, N2O chemisorption, CO2-TPD, H2-TPR, TG, and XPS characterization techniques. The influence of glucose pretreatment on the average Cu particle size and the interaction between different components, as well as the effects of the amount of glucose on the Cu specific surface area, the ratio of Cu0/Cu+ and the performance of the catalysts were discussed. The results showed that the catalysts prepared by glucose pretreatment increased the number of basic sites and had a significant advantage in methanol yield. The optimum content of glucose was beneficial to improve the catalytic performance of the CZA catalyst. The maximum space-time yield of methanol was obtained by 2 wt% glucose pretreatments at 200 °C, which was 57.0 g kg-1 h-1.

Abstract
In a complex heterogeneous metal-catalyzed reaction process, unique cooperative effects between metal sites and surface-interface active sites, as well as favorable synergy between surface-interface active sites, can play crucial roles in improving their catalytic performances. In this work, a ZnO-modified Cu-based catalyst over defect-rich Pr2O3 nanosheets for high-efficiency CO2 hydrogenation to produce methanol was successfully constructed. It was demonstrated that an as-fabricated nanosheet-like Cu-based catalyst presented several structural advantages including the formation of highly dispersive Cu0 sites and the coexistence of abundant defective Pr3+-Vo-Pr3+ structures (Vo: oxygen vacancy) and interfacial Cu-O-Pr sites. Combining structural characterization and catalytic reaction results with density functional theory calculations, it was clearly unveiled that the synergy between surface defective structures and Cu-Pr2O3 interfaces over the catalyst remarkably promoted the adsorption of CO2 and CO intermediate, thus boosting the CO2 hydrogenation simultaneously via both the formate intermediate pathway and the intense reverse water-gas shift reaction-derived CO hydrogenation pathway, along with a high space-time yield of methanol of 0.395 gMeOH·gcat-1·h-1 under mild reaction conditions (260 °C and 3.0 MPa). The study provides a new strategy to construct high-performance Cu-based catalysts for high-efficiency CO2 hydrogenation to produce methanol and a deep understanding of the promotional roles of synergy between surface-interface active sites in the CO2 hydrogenation.

Methanol to Formaldehyde: An Overview of Surface Studies and Performance of an Iron Molybdate Catalyst. Catalysts 2021. Abstract
Formaldehyde is a primary chemical in the manufacturing of various consumer products. It is synthesized via partial oxidation of methanol using a mixed oxide iron molybdate catalyst (Fe2(MoO4)3–MoO3). This is one of the standard energy-efficient processes. The mixed oxide iron molybdate catalyst is an attractive commercial catalyst for converting methanol to formaldehyde. However, a detailed phase analysis of each oxide phase and a complete understanding of the catalyst formulation and deactivation studies is required. It is crucial to correctly formulate each oxide phase and influence the synthesis methods precisely. A better tradeoff between support and catalyst and oxygen revival on the catalyst surface is vital to enhance the catalyst’s selectivity, stability, and lifetime. This review presents recent advances on iron molybdate’s catalytic behaviour for formaldehyde production—a deep recognition of the catalyst and its critical role in the processes are highlighted. Finally, the conclusion and prospects are presented at the end.

Synergistic Effect of Alkali Na and K Promoter on Fe-Co-Cu-Al Catalysts for CO2 Hydrogenation to Light Hydrocarbons. Catalysts 2021. Abstract
Alkali metal K- and/or Na-promoted FeCoCuAl catalysts were synthesized by precipitation and impregnation, and their physicochemical and catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation to light hydrocarbons was also investigated in the present work. The results indicate that Na and/or K introduction leads to the formation of active phase metallic Fe and Fe-Co crystals in the order Na < K < K-Na. The simultaneous introduction of Na and K causes a synergistic effect on increasing the basicity and electron-rich property, promoting the formation of active sites Fe@Cu and Fe-Co@Cu with Cu0 as a crystal core. These effects are advantageous to H2 dissociative adsorption and CO2 activation, giving a high CO2 conversion with hydrogenation. Moreover, electron-rich Fe@Cu (110) and Fe-Co@Cu (200) provide active centers for further H2 dissociative adsorption and O-C-Fe intermediate formation after adsorption of CO produced by RWGS. It is beneficial for carbon chain growth in C2+ hydrocarbons, including olefins and alkanes. FeCoCuAl simultaneously modified by K-Na exhibits the highest CO2 conversion and C2+ selectivity of 52.87 mol% and 89.70 mol%, respectively.
