Palladium-Catalyzed Intramolecular Heck/Aminocarbonylation of Alkene-Tethered Iodobenzenes with Nitro Compounds: Synthesis of Carbamoyl-Substituted Benzoheterocycles

A palladium-catalyzed intramolecular Heck/aminocarbonylation of alkene-tethered iodobenzenes with nitro compounds has been developed for the synthesis of carbamoyl-substituted benzoheterocycles. Using Mo(CO)₆ as a solid CO source, no external reductant or additives were needed in this procedure. Both nitroarenes and nitroalkanes were well tolerated. A range of carbamoyl-substituted dihydrobenzofurans and indolines were prepared in moderate to high yields.

A nickel-catalysed intramolecular reductive aminocarbonylation of 2-haloaryl-tethered nitroarenes is developed for rapid access to a variety of dibenzoazepinones and their derivatives.

Synthesis of Arylidene-β-lactams via exo-Selective Matsuda-Heck Arylation of Methylene-β-lactams

exo-Methylene-β-lactams were synthesized in two steps from commercially available 3-bromo-2-(bromomethyl)propionic acid and reacted with arene diazonium salts in a Heck-type arylation in the presence of catalytic amounts of Pd(OAc)₂ under ligand-free conditions. The products, arylidene-β-lactams, were obtained in high yields as single isomers. The β-hydride elimination step of the Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction proceeds with high exo-regioselectivity and E-stereoselectivity. With aryl iodides, triflates, or bromides, the coupling products were isolated only in low yields, due to extensive decomposition of the starting material at elevated temperatures. This underlines that arene diazonium salts can be superior arylating reagents in Heck-type reactions and yield coupling products in synthetically useful yields and selectivities when conventional conditions fail.

Palladium-catalyzed directing group assisted and regioselectivity reversed cyclocarbonylation of arylallenes with 2-iodoanilines

A palladium-catalyzed regioselective cyclocarbonylation of N-(2-pyridyl)sulfonyl (N-SO₂Py)-2-iodoanilines with allenes was developed. The regioselectivity of arylallenes was reversed. Control experiments and DFT calculations were performed to understand the reaction details.

Palladium-Catalyzed Carbonylative Synthesis of α-Branched Enones from Aryl Iodides and Arylallenes

In this communication, an interesting carbonylation protocol for the preparation of α-branched enones has been established. Starting from readily available aryl iodides and allenes, with formic acid as the CO source and reductant, moderate to good yields of the desired enones were isolated. Although it is a carbonylation methodology, the use of a CO source can avoid the manipulation of CO gas directly. Notably, this procedure also presents the first example on carbonylative synthesis of α-branched enones.
