Bimetallic Pt-Fe catalysts supported on mesoporous TS-1 microspheres for the liquid-phase selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde

Capture-bonding Super Assembly of Nanoscale Dispersed Bimetal on Uniform CeO2 Nanorod for the Toluene Oxidation

Elimination of VOCs by catalytic oxidation is an important technology. Here, a general synergistic capture-bonding superassembly strategy was proposed to obtain the nanoscale dispersed 5.8% PtFe₃ -CeO₂ catalyst, which showed a high toluene oxidation activity (T₁₀₀ =226 °C), excellent catalytic stability (125 h, >99.5%) and a good water resistance ability (70 h, >99.5%). Through the detailed XPS analysis, oxygen cycle experiment, hydrogen reduction experiment, and in-situ DRIFT experiment, we could deduce that PtFe₃ -CeO₂ had two reaction pathways. The surface adsorbed oxygen resulting from PtFe₃ nanoparticles played a dominant role, due to the fast cycling between the surface adsorbed oxygen and oxygen vacancy. In contrast, the lattice oxygen resulting from CeO₂ nanorods played an important role due to the relationship between the toluene oxidation activity and the metal-oxygen bonding energy. Furthermore, DFT simulation verified Pt sites were the dominant reaction active sites during this reaction.

Boosting catalytic stability for VOCs removal by constructing PtCu alloy structure with superior oxygen activation behavior

The elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from the process of industry production is of great significance to improve the atmospheric environment. Herein the catalytic oxidation of the toluene and iso-hexane mixture, as the typical components from furniture paint industry, and the enhancement in the catalytic stability for toluene oxidation were investigated in detail. The formation rate of active oxygen species was very important for the development of the catalyst with high catalytic stability. Compared with the Pt/M catalyst, the Pt-Cu/M catalyst owned stronger ability of VOCs adsorption and gaseous oxygen activation by introducing additional sites for activating O₂. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood (adsorbed oxygen) and Mars-van Krevelen (lattice oxygen) mechanism existed in toluene oxidation over the present Pt/M and Pt-Cu/M catalysts, respectively. The change in the involved active oxygen species during toluene oxidation was resulted from the Pt-Cu alloy structure. In addition to the adsorption of O₂, a part of active lattice oxygen species can also be replenished by the migration of bulk lattice oxygen over Pt-Cu/M. With a rise in the reaction temperature, weakly adsorbed iso-hexane could be timely reacted with the more active lattice oxygen species to keep the catalytic stability over the Pt/M and Pt-Cu/M catalysts. Generally, we not only prepared a promising material for the catalytic removal of VOCs from the furniture paint industry, but also provided a new strategy for the generation of active oxygen species, making the catalyst exhibit high catalytic oxidation stability.

Engineering the geometric and electronic structure of Ru via Ru–TiO2 interaction for enhanced selective hydrogenation

Ru/TiO2-Vo-250H with the structure of TiO2-Vo-partially encapsulated Ru nanoparticles, balances the active sites for H2 dissociation and the adsorption sites for 6-chloroquinoline, achieving the selective hydrogenation even at room temperature.

Rational Design of Pt-Pd-Ni Trimetallic Nanocatalysts for Room-Temperature Benzaldehyde and Styrene Hydrogenation

Nanostructures of the multimetallic catalysts offer great scope for fine tuning of heterogeneous catalysis, but clear understanding of the surface chemistry and structures is important to enhance their selectivity and efficiency. Focussing on a typical Pt-Pd-Ni trimetallic system, we comparatively examined the Ni/C, Pt/Ni/C, Pd/Ni/C and Pt-Pd/Ni/C catalysts synthesized by impregnation and galvanic replacement reaction. To clarify surface chemical/structural effect, the Pt-Pd/Ni/C catalyst was thermally treated at X=200, 400 or 600 °C in a H₂ reducing atmosphere, respectively termed as Pt-Pd/Ni/C-X. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized complementarily by XRD, XPS, TEM, HRTEM, HS-LEIS and STEM-EDS elemental mapping and line-scanning. All the catalysts were comparatively evaluated for benzaldehyde and styrene hydrogenation. It is shown that the "PtPd alloy nanoclusters on Ni nanoparticles" (PtPd/Ni) and the synergistic effect of the trimetallic Pt-Pd-Ni, lead to much improved catalytic performance, compared with the mono- or bi- metallic counterparts. However, with the increase of the treatment temperature of the Pt-Pd/Ni/C, the catalytic performance was gradually degraded, which was likely due to that the favourable nanostructure of fine "PtPd/Ni" was gradually transformed to relatively large "PtPdNi alloy on Ni" (PtPdNi/Ni) particles, thus decreasing the number of noble metal (Pt and Pd) active sites on the surface of the catalyst. The optimum trimetallic structure is thus the as synthesised Pt-Pd/Ni/C. This work provides a novel strategy for the design and development of highly efficient and low-cost multimetallic catalysts, e. g. for hydrogenation reactions.
