Abstract
Electrohydrodynamics is among the most promising techniques for manipulating liquids in microsystems. The electric stress actuates, generates, and coalesces droplets of small sizes; it also accelerates, focuses, and controls the motion of fine jets. In this review, the current understanding of dynamic regimes of electrically driven drops and jets in multiphase microsystems is summarized. The experimental description and underlying mechanism of force interplay and instabilities are discussed. Conditions for controlled transitions among different regimes are also provided. Emerging new phenomena either due to special interfacial properties or geometric confinement are emphasized, and simple scaling arguments proposed in the literature are introduced. The review provides useful perspectives for investigations involving electrically driven droplets and jets.

Abstract
In self-emulsification higher-energy micrometre and sub-micrometre oil droplets are spontaneously produced from larger ones and only a few such methods are known. They usually involve a one-time reduction in oil solubility in the continuous medium via changing temperature or solvents or a phase inversion in which the preferred curvature of the interfacial surfactant layer changes its sign. Here we harness narrow-range temperature cycling to cause repeated breakup of droplets to higher-energy states. We describe three drop breakup mechanisms that lead the drops to burst spontaneously into thousands of smaller droplets. One of these mechanisms includes the remarkable phenomenon of lipid crystal dewetting from its own melt. The method works with various oil-surfactant combinations and has several important advantages. It enables low surfactant emulsion formulations with temperature-sensitive compounds, is scalable to industrial emulsification and applicable to fabricating particulate drug carriers with desired size and shape.

Abstract
The controlled production of non-spherical shaped particles is important for many applications such as food processing, consumer goods, adsorbents, drug delivery, and optical sensing. In this paper, we investigated the deformation and simultaneous solidification of millimeter size molten wax drops as they impacted an immiscible liquid interface of higher density. By varying initial temperature and viscoelasticity of the molten drop, drop size, impact velocity, viscosity and temperature of the bath fluid, and the interfacial tension between the molten wax and bath fluid, spherical molten wax drops impinged on a cooling water bath and were arrested into non-spherical solidified particles in the form of ellipsoid, mushroom, disc, and flake-like shapes. We constructed cursory phase diagrams for the various particle shapes generated over a range of Weber, Capillary, Reynolds, and Stefan numbers, governed by the interfacial, inertial, viscous, and thermal effects. We solved a simplified heat transfer problem to estimate the time required to initiate the solidification at the interface of a spherical molten wax droplet and cooling aqueous bath after impact. By correlating this time with the molten wax drop deformation history captured from high speed imaging experiments, we elucidate the delicate balance of interfacial, inertial, viscous, and thermal forces that determine the final morphology of wax particles.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles have been used in various fields, and several synthesis processes have been developed. The stability and dispersion of the synthesized nanoparticles is vital. The present article describes a novel approach for one-step synthesis of silver nanoparticles-embedded chitosan particles. The proposed approach was applied to simultaneously obtain and stabilize silver nanoparticles in a chitosan polymer matrix in-situ. The diameter of the synthesized chitosan composite particles ranged from 1.7 mm to 2.5 mm, and the embedded silver nanoparticles were measured to be 15 ± 3.3 nm. Further, the analyses of ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were employed to characterize the prepared composites. The results show that the silver nanoparticles were distributed over the surface and interior of the chitosan spheres. The fabricated spheres had macroporous property, and could be used for many applications such as fungicidal agents in the future.

Abstract
Nanotechnology based Pharma has emerged significantly and has influenced the Pharma industry up to a considerable extent. Nanoparticles technology holds a good share of the nanotech Pharma and is significant in comparison with the other domains. Electrospraying technology answers the potential needs of nanoparticle production such as scalability, reproducibility, effective encapsulation etc. Many drugs have been electrosprayed with and without polymer carriers. Drug release characteristics are improved with the incorporation of biodegradable polymer carriers which sustain the release of encapsulated drug. Electrospraying is acknowledged as an important technique for the preparation of nanoparticles with respect to pharmaceutical applications. Herein we attempted to consolidate the reports pertaining to electrospraying and their corresponding therapeutic application area.

Electrostatic droplets assisted in situ synthesis of superparamagnetic chitosan microparticles for magnetic-responsive controlled drug release and copper ion removal. Abstract
This paper demonstrates a facile approach for the in situ synthesis of size-controllable superparamagnetic chitosan micro-beads with a saturation magnetization value as high as ca. 35.3 emu g-1 at room temperature. The proposed process utilized the electrostatic droplets (ESD) technique, which is quite effective in producing uniform-sized polymer beads. A sodium hydroxide solution was employed for both the solidification of chitosan and the co-precipitation of ferro-gels containing both ferrous and ferric cations. The diameter of the beads was very uniform (each relative standard deviation was below 3.4%) and adjustable from 84 μm to ca. 555 μm by varying the electrostatic field. Cell viability tests indicated that the superparamagnetic chitosan particles were eco-friendly and had a high potential for biological applications. The results show that the superparamagnetic chitosan particles achieved superior results in magnetic-responsive drug release as well as heavy metal removal (e.g. copper ions). This study demonstrated that the appropriate magnetic field intensity for different release patterns is predictable, which allows for better application of microcapsules as a smart drug carrier. In addition, the proposed chitosan particles serve as an alternative material for the adsorption of heavy metal ions from contaminated industrial effluents, while their superparamagnetic properties are advantageous in that they make the chitosan particles guidable by an external magnetic field.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop an effective growth factor releasing scaffold-microsphere system for promoting periodontal tissue engineering. Bone morphogenetic protein-6 (BMP-6)-loaded alginate microspheres in narrow size distribution were produced by optimising electrospraying conditions. The addition of these microspheres to chitosan gels produced a novel scaffold in which not only the pore sizes and interconnectivity were preserved, but also a controlled release vehicle was generated. Loading capacity was adjusted as 50 ng or 100 ng BMP-6 for each scaffold and the controlled release behaviour of BMP-6 from chitosan scaffolds was observed during seven days. Cell culture studies were carried out with rat mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow in three groups; chitosan scaffolds, chitosan scaffolds containing BMP-6-loaded alginate microspheres and chitosan scaffolds with free BMP-6 in culture medium. Results showed that controlled delivery of BMP-6 from alginate microspheres has a significant effect on osteogenic differentiation.

Abstract
We report the first measurement of the hindrance function for sedimentation or creaming of disk-shaped colloids via the analytical centrifugation. Disks align with the external flow right above a volume fraction of a few percent, and this effect is extremely sensitive to the aspect ratio of disks. Due to this alignment effect, disk sedimentation or creaming demonstrates distinct trends in dilute and semidilute regions.
