Abstract
The current commercialized polyethylene (PE) separator has poor wettability and thermal stability which will seriously restrict the electrochemical performance and affect the safety of lithium ion battery. Herein, a porous hybrid layer coated separator with high thermal stability, good electrochemical performance and improved wettability was prepared by a template-free method via the synergistic effect between tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and aramid nano fibers (ANFs) during the evaporation of solvent and the in-situ gelation of TEOS. The results show that the porous hybrid coating layers can enhance the thermal stability, wettability and electrolyte uptake of the separators. Moreover, the lithium ion transference number is also increased. As a result, the battery assembled with the composite separator exhibits enhanced electrochemical performance in terms of cycle stability and rate performance. When coupled with LiCoO2cathode, the capacity retention rate is as high as 96.0% after 100 cycles at 0.2C.

Abstract
This work presents studies on the activity of the Ti-SBA-16 (SBA—Santa Barbara Amorphous) catalyst in the isomerization of limonene and S-carvone. The Ti-SBA-16 catalyst was synthesized by a two-step method: first, the SBA-16 material was produced, and then it was impregnated with the titanium source. The Ti-SBA-16 catalyst was subjected to detailed characterizations by means of instrumental methods: XRD (X-ray Diffraction), UV-Vis (Ultraviolet–Visible) spectroscopy, FTIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared) spectroscopy, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) with EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray) spectroscopy, and EDXRF (Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence). Both limonene and S-carvone underwent isomerization over the Ti-SBA-16 catalyst. In the isomerization of limonene, the main product was terpinolene, and its highest yield amounted to 39 mol% after 300 min at 170 °C with a catalyst content of 15 wt%. Under these conditions, the conversion of limonene reached 78 mol%. In contrast, the highest yield of carvacrol (65 mol%) was obtained with the catalyst content of 15 wt%, at 200 °C, and with the conversion of S-carvone reaching 79 mol%.

Abstract
Strict environmental laws have been put in place around the world to reduce the amount of sulfur in the fuel to reduce the emissions of harmful gases from fuel combustion and improve air quality. Therefore, extensive researches have been undertaken to devise effective processes or to improve the desulfurization processes. Among the desulfurization processes, the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) process is a promising method to achieve very low and near-zero sulfur content of the fuel. In this process, sulfur compounds are converted to the corresponding sulfone by a catalyst and in the presence of an oxidant. The obtained compounds by polar solvents or adsorbents are removed from the fuel. In recent decades, extensive studies have been carried out on the catalysts used in the oxidative desulfurization process. In this review, a comprehensive survey has been performed on heterogeneous catalysts used in the oxidative desulfurization process. According to the reported researches, the heterogeneous catalysts used can be divided into five groups: ionic liquids, carbon materials, polyoxometalates, transition metal oxides stabilized on porous solid substrates, and metal-organic frameworks. The proposed mechanisms with different catalysts have also been studied in this work.

Abstract
Recalcitrant sulfur compounds are common impurities in crude oil. During combustion they produce SOx derivatives that are able to affect the atmospheric ozone layer, increasing the formation of acid rains, and reducing the life of the engine due to corrosion. In the last twenty years, many efforts have been devoted to develop conventional hydrodesulfurization (HDS) procedures, as well as alternative methods, such as selective adsorption, bio-desulfurization, oxidative desulfurization (ODS) under extractive conditions (ECODS), and others. Among them, the oxidative procedures have been usually accomplished by the use of toxic stoichiometric oxidants, namely potassium permanganate, sodium bromate and carboxylic and sulfonic peracids. As an alternative, increasing interest is devoted to selective and economical procedures based upon catalytic methods. Heterogeneous catalysis is of relevance in industrial ODS processes, since it reduces the leaching of active species and favors the recovery and reuse of the catalyst for successive transformations. The heterogenization of different types of high-valent metal transition-based organometallic complexes, able to promote the activation of stoichiometric benign oxidants like peroxides, can be achieved using various solid supports. Many successful cases have been frequently associated with the use of mesoporous silicas that have the advantage of easy surface modification by reaction with organosilanes, facilitating the immobilization of homogeneous catalysts. In this manuscript the application of SBA-15 as efficient support for different active metal species, able to promote the catalytic ODS of either model or real fuels is reviewed, highlighting its beneficial properties such as high surface area, narrow pore size distribution and tunable pore diameter dimensions. Related to this topic, the most relevant advances recently published, will be discussed and critically described.

Abstract
Abstract
In order to meet the stringent environmental and industrial legislation on fuel specifications, sulfur compounds have to be removed efficiently from fuels. The requirement to produce ultralow-sulfur fuels (S < 10 ppm) has stimulated many works in the area of conventional hydro-desulfurization (HDS) method. Oxidative desulfurization (ODS), as an alternative or complementary technology to HDS for deep desulfurization, is conducted with high selectivity and reactivity to sterically hindered S compounds under mild reaction conditions. In the ODS process, using an appropriate oxidant in the presence of a catalyst, organic sulfur compounds can be oxidized selectively to their corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones, which can be easily removed by different separation methods. Having great catalytic characteristics, polyoxometalate materials have been utilized as a vital class of catalysts for deep desulfurization of fuels. In the past few decades, ODS of fuels using polyoxometalate as catalyst has drawn much attention, and various studies have been carried out in this area. Here, we give a critical review for the removal of sulfur compounds from liquid fuels (mostly from diesel and model fuels) by ODS via homogeneous and heterogeneous polyoxometalate catalysts.

Abstract
The aim of this article is to review current knowledge related to the synthesis and characterization of sol gel-derived SBA-16 mesoporous silicas, as well as a review of the state of the art in this issue, to take stock of knowledge about current and future applications. The ease of the method of preparation, the orderly structure, size and shape of their pores and control, all these achievable through simple changes in the method of synthesis, makes SBA-16 a very versatile material, potentially applicable in many areas of science and molecular engineering of materials.
