Abstract
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which emerge as multicomponent pollutants through many industrial processes, pose a serious threat to human health and the eco-environment due to their volatility, toxicity and dispersion. Hence, the study of competitive adsorption of multicomponent VOCs is of practical and scientific importance. Herein, the perlite-supported Fe3O4@SiO2@8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid (perlite-Fe3O4@SiO2@8-HQ-5-SA) was designed as a novel magnetic nanoadsorbent by a simple strategy and employed for the competitive adsorption of multicomponent toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene in the vapor-phase targeted as VOCs. The successfully prepared perlite-Fe3O4@SiO2@8-HQ-5-SA was characterized by means of SEM, EDX, FT-IR, VSM and BET analyses. Adsorption capacities of 558 mg/g, 680 mg/g and 716 mg/g were achieved for single component toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene, respectively. It was concluded that the adsorption capacities for both binary and ternary components were significantly decreased compared to single component adsorption. The competitive adsorption capacity order of the binary and ternary component VOCs was xylene > ethylbenzene > toluene due to their competitive dominance. The rate-limiting kinetic analysis indicated that the adsorption rates were determined by both the film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion. The analysis of the error metrics demonstrated that the three-parameter isotherm models better described the adsorption data compared to the two-parameter models. In particular, the Toth model provided the closest fit to the experimental equilibrium data. The thermodynamic analysis indicated the spontaneous nature and probability (ΔG° <0), exothermic (ΔH° <0), physical (ΔH° <20 kJ/mol) and a declination in the degree of randomness (ΔS° <0) of the adsorption processes. The reuse efficiency of perlite-Fe3O4@SiO2@8-HQ-5-SA for toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene decreased to only by 88.91%, 88.07% and 87.16% after five recycles. The perlite-Fe3O4@SiO2@8-HQ-5-SA has a significant adsorptive potential compared to other adsorbents reported in the literature, thus it could be recommended as a promising nanoadsorbent for VOCs in industrial processes.

Aminoalkyl-organo-silane treated sand for the adsorptive removal of arsenic from the groundwater: Immobilizing the mobilized geogenic contaminants. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2022; 425:127916. Abstract
Arsenic (As), a geogenic legacy pollutant can be present in environmental matrices (water, soil, plants, or animal) in two redox states (As(III) or As(V)). In the present study, charged mono- and di-amino functionalized triethoxy and methoxyorganosilane (TT1 and TT2- 1% and 5%) were impregnated with quartz sand particles for the treatment of As polluted water. Spectroscopic characterization of organosilane treated sand (STS) indicated the co-existence of minerals (Mg, Mn, Ti), amide, and amidoalkyl groups, which implies the suitability of silanized materials as a metal(loids) immobilization agent from water. Changes in peaks were observed after As sorption in Fourier thermal infrared and EDS images indicating the involvement of chemisorption. Batch sorption studies were performed with the optimized experimental parameters, where an increased removal (>20% for TT2-1% and >60% for TT1-1%) of As was observed with sorbate concentration (50 µg L-1), temp. (25 ± 2 ºC) and sorbent dosages (of 10 g L-1) at 120 min contact time. Among the different adsorbent dosages, 10 g L-1 of both TT1 and TT2 was selected as an optimum dosage (maximum adsorption capacity ≈ 2.91 μg g-1). The sorption model parameters suggested the possibility of chemisorption, charge/ion-dipole interaction for the removal of arsenate.

Tris (2-aminoethyl) Amine Functionalized Nanoporous Silica SBA-15 as a Potential Drug Carrier for Citalopram. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BASIC SCIENCE IN MEDICINE 2019. Abstract
Introduction: Ordered nanoporous silica such as SBA-15 has a great potential for application in controlled drug release systems. Chemical modification of the silanol groups of SBA-15 allows better control over drug loading and release. Therefore, tris(2-aminoethyl) amine-functionalized mesoporous silica SBA-15 was evaluated as a potential carrier for the delivery of citalopram. Methods: Tris (2-aminoethyl) amine-functionalized SBA-15 was synthesized and characterized by various methods. Citalopram was loaded on the functionalized SBA-15 and drug release into simulated body fluid (SBF) solution and phosphate buffers was investigated. Results: The optimal condition for loading of the citalopram was obtained at pH = 9 after stirring for 5 minutes. The release profile of citalopram was monitored in phosphate buffers with three different pH values of 5, 7, and 8. A faster release rate at lower pH value was observed, suggesting a weaker interaction because of the protonation of the amino group of the functionalized SBA15. The average release rate of citalopram from each gram of functionalized SBA-15 was 12 µg h-1 in the SBF. Conclusion: The results showed that loading amount and release rate of citalopram depended on pH value and the release process showed a very slow release pattern. Therefore, tris (2-aminoethyl) amine-functionalized SBA-15 is a suitable carrier for controlled release of citalopram and has a great potential for disease therapy.

Abstract
Nanoreactors are material structures with engineered internal cavities which create exclusive confined nanoscale surroundings for chemical reactions. The cavities of mesoporous silica SBA-15 can be used as nanoreactors for incorporating catalytic species such as metal nanoparticles, complexes etc. Since SBA-15 silica has a neutral framework, organic functional groups and heteroatoms have been embedded by direct or post-synthesis approaches in order to modify their functionality. Palladium is the most used transition metal for C-C bond formations. Because of the great importance of C-C coupling reactions, this review article aims at providing a deep insight into the state of art in the field of the synthesis and the application of mesoporous SBA-15 silica-supported Pd catalysts in C-C coupling transformations. In most cases, synthesis and modification of the catalyst, time and yield of reactions, recyclability and leaching of the Pd species from the SBA-15 support are discussed to reveal the role of SBA-15 in C-C coupling reactions.

Abstract
We describe an efficient method for the direct preparation of nitriles from aldehydes and hydroxylamine hydrochloride catalyzed by sulfonated nanohydroxyapatite functionalized by 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate (HAP@AEPH2-SO3H) as an eco-friendly and recyclable solid acid nanocatalyst. In this protocol the use of a solid acid nanocatalyst provides a green, useful, and rapid method for the preparation of nitriles in excellent yields. In addition, the notable feature of this methodolgy is that the synthesized nanocatalyst can be recovered and reused five times without any noticeable loss of efficiency.
