Abstract
Noncovalent interactions play a crucial role in driving the formation of diverse self-assembled structures in surfactant systems. Surfactants containing a benzene ring structure are an important subset of surfactants. These surfactants exhibit unique colloid and interfacial properties, which give rise to fascinating transformations in the aggregate structures. These transformations are directly influenced by specific noncovalent interactions facilitated by the benzene ring structure including cation-π and π-π interactions. Investigating catanionic surfactant systems that incorporate benzene ring structures provides valuable insights into the distinct noncovalent interactions observed in mixed surfactant systems. Our approach involved studying the enthalpy change ΔH during the titration process, utilizing isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). Simultaneously, we employed cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) to observe the corresponding self-assembly structures. To gain further insight, we delved into the noncovalent interactions of the mixed systems by analyzing the molecular environments variations through chemical shifts of the aggregates using proton magnetic resonance (1H NMR). The intermolecular interaction was also confirmed by the two-dimensional nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy (2D NOESY). We conducted a systematic study of the effects of NaCl concentrations, molar ratios, and molecular structures of surfactants on aggregate structures. The existence forms of surfactants are closely linked to the shape of the titration curve and the transition of the aggregate structures. When cationic surfactants were titrated into sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) micelle solutions, the dominant cation-π interaction leads to the direct formation of vesicle structures. Conversely, when the SDBS system is titrated into benzyldimethyldodecylammonium chloride (DDBAC) micelles, a delicate balance of multiple noncovalent interactions, including cation-π, π-π, hydrophobic, and electrostatic forces, results in a range of aggregate structure transformations such as worm-like micelles and vesicular structures.

Abstract
Aberrant protein misfolding and/or aggregation and fibrillation has been linked to the pathogenesis of several debilitating chronic diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Inhibiting protein amyloidogenesis has been proposed as a viable strategy to prevent or ameliorate associated disorders. Herein, we investigated the anti-amyloidogenic properties of biogenic gold nanoparticles (QTG-GNP) prepared via a simple green chemistry route and stabilized by quercetin-functionalized tara gum (QTG). The synthesized QTG-GNP was extensively characterized for its physicochemical attributes via UV-visible spectroscopy, TEM, FESEM, EDX, DLS/Zeta potential, FTIR, RAMAN, XRD, XPS, and TGA analyses, as well as for its biological properties. The results revealed that small-sized (5.01 ± 1.17 nm), well-dispersed, highly stable and round-shaped biogenic gold nanoparticles were successfully synthesized at room temperature with QTG as the sole reductant /stabilizer. Importantly, QTG-GNP demonstrated potent anti-aggregation and fibrillation inhibitory effects against amyloidogenic hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL). Also, QTG-GNP was able to dissociate pre-formed HEWL amyloid fibrils. Furthermore, the constructed nanoparticles exhibited potent anti-radical activities against DPPH and ABTS+ and were cytocompatible with mouse L929 fibroblast cells. On the basis of these findings, it was established that QTG-GNP holds strong prospects for further development as an agent for countering protein aggregation and associated disease conditions.

Abstract
Gemini surfactants consist of two cationic monomers of a surfactant linked together with a spacer. The specific structure of a cationic gemini surfactant is the reason for both its high surface activity and its ability to decrease the surface tension of water. The high surface activity and unique structure of gemini surfactants result in outstanding properties, including antibacterial and antifungal activity, anticorrosion properties, unique aggregation behaviour, the ability to form various structures reversibly in response to environmental conditions, and interactions with biomacromolecules such as DNA and proteins. These properties can be tailored by selecting the optimal structure of a gemini surfactant in terms of the nature and length of its alkyl substituents, spacer, and head group. Additionally, regarding their properties, comparison with their monomeric counterparts demonstrates that gemini surfactants have higher performance efficacy at lower concentrations. Hence, less material is needed, and the toxicity is lower. However, there are some limitations regarding their biocompatibility that have led researchers to develop amino acid-based and sugar-based gemini surfactants. Owing to their remarkable properties, cationic gemini surfactants are promising candidates for bioapplications such as drug delivery systems, gene carriers, and biomaterial surface modification.

Abstract
Fusarium oxysporum is a highly destructive plant pathogen and an emerging pathogen of humans. Like other ascomycete fungi, F. oxysporum secretes α-pheromone, a small peptide that functions both as a chemoattractant and as a quorum-sensing signal. Three of the ten amino acid residues of α-pheromone are tryptophan, an amino acid whose sidechain has high affinity for lipid bilayers, suggesting a possible interaction with biological membranes. Here we tested the effect of different lipid environments on α-pheromone structure and function. Using spectroscopic and calorimetric approaches, we show that this peptide interacts with negatively charged model phospholipid vesicles. Fluorescence emission spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements revealed a key role of the positively charged groups and Trp residues. Furthermore, NMR-based calculation of the 3D structure in the presence of micelles, formed by lipid surfactants, suggests that α-pheromone can establish an intramolecular disulfide bond between the two cysteine residues during interaction with membranes, but not in the absence of lipid mimetics. Remarkably, this oxidized version of α-pheromone lacks biological activity as a chemoattractant and quorum-sensing molecule. These results suggest the presence of a previously unidentified redox regulated control of α-pheromone activity at the surface of the plasma membrane that could influence the interaction with its cognate G-protein coupled receptor.

Abstract
Binding effect and interaction of N,N'-dialkyl cystine based gemini surfactant (GS); 2(C12Cys) with human serum albumin (HSA) were systematically investigated by the techniques such as surface tension measurement, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, and molecular docking studies. The surface tension measurement exhibited that HSA shifted the critical micelle concentration of the 2(C12Cys) GS to the higher side that confirms the complex formation among 2(C12Cys) GS and HSA which was also verified by UV-visible, fluorescence, and CD spectroscopy. Increase in the concentration of 2(C12Cys) GS increases the absorption of the HSA protein but has a reverse effect on the fluorescence intensity. The analysis of UV-visible study with the help of a static quenching method showed that the value acquired for the bimolecular quenching constant (k q) quenches the intrinsic fluorescence of the HSA protein. Synchronous fluorescence spectrometry declared that the induced-binding conformational changes in HSA and CD results explained the variations in the secondary arrangement of the protein in presence of 2(C12Cys) GS. The present study revealed that the interaction between 2(C12Cys) GS and HSA is important for the preparation and properties of medicines. Molecular docking study provides insight into the specific binding site of 2(C12Cys) GS into the sites of HSA.

Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ) is a commonly used food preservative and has a wide range of anthelmintic properties. In this study, computer simulations and experiments were conducted to investigate the interaction mechanism of TBZ and herring sperm DNA (hsDNA) at the molecular level. Molecular docking showed that TBZ interacted with DNA in groove mode and bound in A-T and C-G base pair regions. Molecular dynamics (MD) was used to evaluate the stability of the TBZ-DNA complex and found that the three phases in MD and the hydrogen bonds helped maintain the combination. NMR relaxation indicated that TBZ had a certain affinity to hsDNA with a binding constant of 462.43 L mol-1, and the thiazole ring was the main group bound with DNA. Results obtained from fluorescence experiments showed that the binding of TBZ and hsDNA was predominantly driven by enthalpy through a static quenching mechanism. Circular dichroism and viscosity measurements proved the groove binding mode. The FTIR results clarified the conformational changes of DNA, that the DNA helix became shorter and compact, and the DNA structure transformed from B-form to A-form.

Abstract
The amyloid aggregation process of amyloid β1-42 peptide is responsible for Alzheimer's disease, affecting millions of elderly people worldwide. Although there has been a great deal of attention directed toward tackling this disease, still no medicine has been found for this fatal disorder. To address this challenge, it is vital to thoroughly understand the molecular mechanism underlying the amyloid peptide aggregation process, as well as seek substances that could hamper this aggregation. In order to shed light on mechanisms leading to amyloidogenesis, we employed a microfluidic system to determine the possible influence of in vivo-like flow in the microchip channel itself on feline Aβ1-42 peptide amyloidogenesis. We have shown that shear forces occurring during such flow immensely accelerated peptide aggregation. We also tested the inhibitory influence of 3,3'-[1,6-(2,5-dioxahexane)]bis(1-dodecylimidazolium) dichloride gemini surfactant on peptide amyloidogenesis. Our results suggest that this surfactant may inhibit amyloid β1-42 fibril formation.

Gemini surfactants have been the subject of intensive scrutiny by virtue of their unique combination of physical and chemical properties and being used in ordinary household objects to multifarious industrial processes. In this review, we summarize the recent developments of gemini surfactants, highlighting the classification of gemini surfactants based on the variation in headgroup polarity, flexibility/rigidity of spacer, hydrophobic alkyl chain and counterion along with potential applications of gemini surfactants, depicting the truly remarkable journey of gemini surfactants that has just come of age. We have focused on those objectives which will act as suitable candidates to take the field forward. The preceding information will permit us to estimate the effect of structural variation on the aggregation behavior of gemini surfactants for nanoscience and biological applications like antimicrobial, anti-fungal agent, better gene and drug delivery agent with low cytotoxicity and biodegradability, which makes them more advantageous for a number of technological processes and hence reduces the impact of these gemini surfactants on the environment.

Abstract
Pineapple peel is generally disposed or used as compost. This study was focused on extracting bromelain from pineapple peel by using reverse micelles. It was found that gemini surfactant C12-8-C12·2Br (octamethylene-α,ω-bis(dimethyldodecylammonium bromide)) showed distinctive advantage over its monomeric counterpart DTAB (dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide); under optimized condition, the bromelain extracted with C12-8-C12·2Br reverse micelle had an activity recovery of 163% and a purification fold of 3.3, while when using DTAB reverse micelle, the activity recovery was 95% and the purification fold was 1.7. Therefore, the spacer of gemini surfactant should play a positive role in bromelain extraction and may suggest the potential of gemini surfactant in protein separation since it has been so far rarely used in relative experiments or technologies.

Abstract
Gemini surfactants and their interactions with proteins have gained considerable scientific interest, especially when amyloidogenic proteins are taken into account. In this work, the influence of two selected dicationic (gemini) surfactants (3,3′-[1,8-(2,7-dioxaoctane)]bis(1-dodecylimidazolium) chloride and 3,3′-[1,12-(2,11-dioxadodecane)]bis(1-dodecylimidazolium) chloride) on two model proteins, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL), have been investigated. A pronounced and sophisticated influence on BSA structure has been revealed, including a considerable change of protein radius of gyration as well as substantial alteration of its secondary structure. Radius of gyration has been found to rise significantly with addition of surfactants and to fall down for high surfactants concentration. Similarly, a remarkable fall of secondary structure (α-helix content) has been observed, followed by its partial retrieval for high surfactants concentration. A strong aggregation of BSA has been observed for a confined range of surfactants concentrations as well. In case of HEWL-gemini system, on the other hand, the protein-surfactant interaction was found to be weak. Molecular mechanisms explaining such behaviour of protein-surfactant systems have been proposed. The differences of properties of both studied surfactants have also been discussed.

Abstract
Micelles are self-assembled aggregates that arrange themselves into spheres in aqueous media. When the surfactant concentration reaches the critical micelle concentration, extensive aggregation of the surfactant monomers occurs to form micelles. A micelle has both a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part. This allows them to form a spherical shape and for their glycolipid and phospholipid components to form lipid bilayers. The importance of micelles is increasing because of their wide analytical applications. Recently, colloidal carrier systems have received much attention in the field of analytical chemistry, especially in luminescence enhancement applications.

Abstract
The solution properties of a typical gemini surfactant of decanediyl-1-10-bis (dimethyltetradecylammonium bromide) (abbrev. 14-10-14,2Br(-)) were examined in an aqueous medium at temperatures of 288.2, 298.2, and 308.2 K. The characterization was performed by employing surface tension measurements, electrical conductivity measurements, steady-state fluorescence quenching (SSFQ), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The surface tension was measured with the drop volume method, in which an improved tensiometer was used and the experimental operation was modified. The resultant data were well reproducible and the equilibrium adsorption time after producing the droplet onto the tip of the capillary was on the order of minutes. In addition, the critical micelle concentration obtained from the surface tension data is in good agreement with that obtained from the conductivity data. Using the conductivity variation as a function of surfactant concentration, the thermodynamic parameters of micellization were calculated. Furthermore, the SSFQ method suggests a small and constant aggregation number, irrespective of temperature. The formation of small-size micelles was also confirmed by DLS measurements.
