Abstract
Aminated lignin (AL) was obtained by modifying technical lignin (TL) with the Mannich reaction, and aminated lignin-based titanate nanotubes (AL-TiNTs) were successfully prepared based on the AL by a facile hydrothermal synthesis method. The characterization of AL-TiNTs showed that a Ti-O bond was introduced into the AL, and the layered and nanotubular structure was formed in the fabrication of the nanotubes. Results showed that the specific surface area increased significantly from 5.9 m2/g (TL) to 188.51 m2/g (AL-TiNTs), indicating the successful modification of TL. The AL-TiNTs quickly adsorbed 86.22% of Cr(VI) in 10 min, with 99.80% removal efficiency after equilibration. Under visible light, AL-TiNTs adsorbed and reduced Cr(VI) in one step, the Cr(III) production rate was 29.76%, and the amount of total chromium (Cr) removal by AL-TiNTs was 90.0 mg/g. AL-TiNTs showed excellent adsorption capacities of Zn2+ (63.78 mg/g), Cd2+ (59.20 mg/g), and Cu2+ (66.35 mg/g). After four cycles, the adsorption capacity of AL-TiNTs still exceeded 40 mg/g. AL-TiNTs showed a high Cr(VI) removal efficiency of 95.86% in simulated wastewater, suggesting a promising practical application in heavy metal removal from wastewater.

Abstract
Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) is one of the most hazardous oxygen-containing anions to human health and the environment. Adsorption is considered to be an effective method for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. Based on an environmental perspective, we used renewable biomass cellulose as carbon source and chitosan as functional material to synthesize chitosan-coated magnetic carbon (MC@CS) material. The synthesized chitosan magnetic carbons were uniform in diameter (~ 20 nm) and contain a large number of abundant hydroxyl and amino functional groups on the surface, meanwhile owning excellent magnetic separation properties. The MC@CS exhibited high adsorption capacity (83.40 mg/g) at pH 3 and excellent cycling regeneration ability when applied to Cr(VI) removal in water, removal rate of Cr(VI) (10 mg/L) was still over 70% after 10 cycles. FT-IR and XPS spectra showed that electrostatic interaction and reduction with Cr(VI) are the main mechanisms of Cr(VI) removal by MC@CS nanomaterial. This work provides an environment-friendly adsorption material that could be reused for the removal of Cr(VI) in multiple cycles.

A novel aminated lignin/geopolymer supported with Fe nanoparticles for removing Cr(VI) and naphthalene: Intermediates promoting the reduction of Cr(VI). THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2023; 866:161379. Abstract
A novel, inexpensive and eco-friendly aminated lignin/geopolymer supported with Fe nanoparticles (Fe@N-L-GM) composite was successfully synthesized using kaolin and lignin as the major precursors. The prepared Fe@N-L-GM had larger specific surface area, rich oxygen-containing and nitrogen-containing functional groups, greater electron transfer ability and interconnective porous structure. The Fe@N-L-GM could be employed as the adsorbent of Cr(VI) and the activator of potassium peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for treatment of Cr(VI) and naphthalene (NAP) in wastewater. The adsorption and degradation results indicated that the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) could reach 65.83 mg g-1, whereas the maximum NAP degradation efficiency could reach 97.81 %. The adsorbed Cr(VI) was mostly converted to the low toxic Cr(III) through the reduction of electron donors such as Fe(II), amino and hydroxyl groups. The quenching experiment results confirmed that ·OH might be the crucial ROSs in mediating NAP degradation. In the simultaneous removal experiment of Cr(VI) and NAP, the Cr(VI) removal rate was significantly improved in the presence of NAP, while phenol as the degradation intermediate of NAP might be the main substance for promoting the reduction of Cr(VI). This work provided the theoretical foundation and a new type of material for the simultaneous removal of heavy metal and persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

Abstract
This work reports the functionalization of sodium titanate nanotubes with amine groups obtained from the reaction of titanate nanotubes with [3-(2-Aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane, NaTiNT-2NH, and 3-[2-(2-Aminoethylamino)ethylamino]propyltrimethoxysilane, NaTiNT-3NH. It was verified that the crystalline and morphological structures of NaTiNT were preserved after the functionalization, spectroscopies showed that aminosilane interacted covalently with the surface of NaTiNT, and the incorporation of the aminosilane groups on the surface of NaTiNT can be confirmed. The adsorbent matrices NaTiNT-2NH and NaTiNT-3NH were used to remove the anionic dye from remazol blue R (RB) in aqueous medium, and the highest adsorption capacity was around 365.84 mg g-1 (NaTiNT-2NH) and 440.70 mg g-1 (NaTiNT-3NH) in the range of pH 5.0 to 10.0 and the equilibrium time was reached in 210 min (NaTiNT-2NH) and 270 min (NaTiNT-3NH). Furthermore, the Elovich model, which reports the adsorption in heterogeneous sites and with different activation energies in the chemisorption process, was the most appropriate to describe the adsorption kinetics. Thus, these adsorbent matrices can be used as an alternative potential for dye removal RB in aqueous solution.

Hybrid PSf/TNT-SO3H Ultrafiltration Membrane Fouling by Sodium Alginate: Effect of Permeation Flux on Fouling Resistance and Desalination Efficiency. ADSORPT SCI TECHNOL 2022. Abstract
The development of low fouling UF membranes with boosting water flux for implementations in water purifications is critical. Organic foulants and ionic strength are the main characteristics of surface water which affect the membrane performance for water generation and seawater desalination. Low fouling hybrid ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated from a combination of sulfonic acid functionalized titanium nanotubes (TNTs-SO3H) and polysulfone (PSf) by the nonsolvent-induced phase separation approach. The membrane fouling was explored utilizing a polysaccharide sodium alginate (SA) as a hydrophilic nature organic matter, and the impact of Na+ and Ca2+ ions on alginate membrane fouling were also addressed. The results showed that the membranes’ water permeability and natural organic matter fouling resistances were affected by the proportion of TNTs-SO3H in the membranes. The inclusion of TNTs-SO3H improves the water penetration fluxes (Jw1) and surface hydrophilicity of the manufactured membranes. In the UF of sodium alginate solution, the produced membrane comprising 5% TNTs-SO3H exhibits a higher penetration flux and rejection value than the other membranes. The introduction of Na+ and Ca2+ ions to the SA solution reduces the membrane fouling. Furthermore, the adsorption investigation of sodium alginate solutions at
was lowered as the amount of TNTs-SO3H was increased. After ultrafiltration, the fouled membrane containing 5% TNTs-SO3H is readily removed, and recurrent antifouling experiments indicate a consistent and maximum filtration efficiency.

Abstract
Titanate nanotube (TNT) was coated with the cyclic oligosaccharides (carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin, CM-β-CD) to obtain a photocatalyst (CM-β-CD-TNT) for efficiently activating molecular oxygen and removing the target contaminant. The hydrophobic cavity and the large specific surface area of the photocatalyst provide abundant active sites for activating molecular oxygen. The free radical capture experiment and quenching experiment showed that cyclodextrin could facilitate adsorption and activation of molecular oxygen to produce O2·-. Therefore, compared with the pristine TNT, CM-β-CD-TNT accelerated the oxidation efficiency of paracetamol (APAP) by 3.4 times. Moreover, the ring cleavage reaction induced by CM-β-CD-TNT effectively reduced the acute toxicity of wastewater containing APAP. Furthermore, 100% of bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), phenol, 2,4-dichlorophen (2,4-DCP), and carbamazepine (CBZ) were degraded by CM-β-CD-TNT after 2.5 h Ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. This strategy provides a new dimension for the advanced treatment of organic wastewater by organic macrocyclic molecules modified materials.

Abstract
In this study, a novel composite composed of iron monosulfide nanoparticles (FeS NPs) and titanate nanotubes (TNTs) was hydrothermally synthesized. Characterizations revealed the encapsulation and homogenous dispersion of FeS NPs into the interlayers of TNTs. Significant performance in removal of aqueous total Cr was acquired by efficient conversion of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) on FeS and simultaneous adsorption of Cr(III) on TNTs. Moreover, the high activity of FeS-TNTs in reduction of Cr(VI) can maintain at high oxicity or alkalinity of its solution. The synergistic effect between FeS and TNTs was derived from sheltering of FeS NPs from their self-aggregation, O2-oxidation and the affinity of Cr(III) to TNTs. The unique properties, e.g. the solid acidity, the hollow and interlayered configuration of TNTs played important roles in high activity, good stability and reusability of FeS-TNTs.

Abstract
Interest in nanostructures such as titanate nanotubes (TNT) has grown notably in recent years due to their biocompatibility and economic viability, making them promising for application in the biomedical field. Quercetin (Qc) has shown great potential as a chemopreventive agent and has been widely studied for the treatment of diseases such as bladder cancer. Motivated by the possibilities of developing a new hybrid nanostructure with potential in biomedical applications, this study aimed to investigate the incorporation of quercetin in sodium (NaTNT) and zinc (ZnTNT) titanate nanotubes, and characterize the nanostructures formed. Qc release testing was also performed and cytotoxicity in Vero and T24 cell lines evaluated by the MTT assay. The effect of TNTs on T24 bladder cancer cell radiosensitivity was also assessed, using cell proliferation and a clonogenic assay. The TNT nanostructures were synthesized and characterized by FESEM, EDS, TEM, FTIR, XRD and TGA. The results showed that the nanostructures have a tubular structure and that the exchange of Na+ ions for Zn2+ and incorporation of quercetin did not alter this morphology. In addition, interaction between Zn and Qc increased the thermal stability of the nanostructures. The release test showed that maximum Qc delivery occurred after 24 h and the presence of Zn controlled its release. Biological assays indicated that the NaTNTQc and ZnTNTQc nanostructures decreased the viability of T24 cells after 48 h at high concentrations. Furthermore, the clonogenic assay showed that NaTNT, NaTNTQc, ZnTNT and ZnTNTQc combined with 5 Gy reduced the formation of polyclonal colonies of T24 cells after 48 h. The results suggest that the nanostructures synthesized in this study interfere in cell proliferation and can therefore be a powerful tool in the treatment of bladder cancer.

Abstract
In the present study, we report the dispersion of titanate nanotubes (TiONts) via polymer grafting (PolyEthylene Glycol, PEG) or polymer adsorption (polyethylene imine, PEI) where different TiONts/polymer ratios have been investigated. The TiONts/PEI and TiONts/PEG nanohybrids were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy as well as by zeta potential measurements in order to determine both their dispersion state and stability in water (at different pH for zetametry). The nature of the chemical bonds at the surface of these nanohybrids was investigated by Fourier-transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy while the grafting densities of PEG on the nanotubes were quantified by thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). The nanohybrids reported here are promising tools for biotechnology applications due to their tubular morphology, their very good dispersion in water and the reactivity of their surface.

Abstract
Amino-functionalized mesoporous silica MCM-41 materials have been prepared to develop efficient adsorbents of Cr(VI) in wastewater, using silica fume as silica source. Functionalization with amino groups has been carried out by using grafting method. The materials have been characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen (N2) adsorption-desorption, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Adsorption potential of the material for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solution was investigated by varying experimental conditions such as pH, initial metal concentration, and contact time. The equilibrium data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm by linear regression analysis, and the results show that the adsorption equilibrium data obeyed the Langmuir model. In addition, the kinetics analysis revealed that the overall adsorption process was successfully fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
