Abstract
The accumulation of Cr(VI) ions in water can cause serious influences on the environment and human health. This work reports a humble synthesis of ZnSe nanoparticles anchored to the sol-gel prepared TiO2for visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) ions. The 7.9 nm ZnSe nanoparticles were attached to TiO2surfaces at a content of 1.0-4.0 wt% as experiential by TEM investigation. The designed nanocomposite unveiled mesostructured surfaces exhibiting surface areas of 176-210 m2g-1. The impregnation of ZnSe amended the visible-light absorption of TiO2due to the bandgap decrease from 3.14 to 2.90 eV. The photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) applying the optimized portion of 3.0 wt% ZnSe/TiO2was achieved at 177μmol min-1. This photocatalytic activity is higher than the common Degussa P25 and pristine TiO2by 20 and 30 times, respectively. The improved performance is signified by the efficient interfacial separation of charge carriers by the introduction of ZnSe. This innovative ZnSe/TiO2has also shown photocatalytic stability for five consecutive runs.

Abstract
In this study, a carbon membrane-mediated CdSe and TiO2 ternary film (CdSe/C/TiO2) was prepared to degrade methylene blue (MB). Carbon membrane and CdSe were introduced to the surface of a TiO2 nanofiber film via an in situ hydrothermal deposition process successively. The investigation shows that the carbon membrane not only provides a charge transfer channel to promote the transfer of electron from the conduction band of CdSe to that of TiO2, but also improves the poor conduct between the TiO2 film and electrolyte. The synergies between the carbon membrane and CdSe can make the ternary system harvest more visible light energy and facilitate the charge transfer property of TiO2. The current density of CdSe/C/TiO2 was about 9 folds higher compared with that of pure TiO2 under UV and visible light irradiations. This ternary hybrid exhibits a superior activity during the photoelectrochemical (PEC) degradation of MB, and 92.43% can be removed after 120 min irradiation, which is improved by 21.14% than that of TiO2. A CdSe/C/TiO2 nanofiber film was prepared for enhanced photoelectrochemical degradation ability, and carbon membrane as a carrier-transfer-channel could promote electron transfer.![]()

Abstract
TiO2 micro-/nano-structures with different morphologies have been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The effects of the solvents on the morphology and structure of the obtained products have been studied. The objective of the present paper is to compare the photocatalytic properties of the obtained TiO2 products. During the synthesis process, the tetrabutyl titanate and titanium (IV) fluoride were used as the titanium source. The obtained micro-/nano-structures were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by the degradation of Rhodamine B solution under simulated solar irradiation. It is found that the morphologies and structures of TiO2 have a great influence on its photocatalytic activity. Compared with other samples, TiO2 flower clusters assembled with nanorods exhibited a superior photocatalytic activity in the degradation of Rhodamine B.

Abstract
Quantum dot (QD)-decorated semiconductor micro- and nanoparticles are a new class of functional nanomaterials that have attracted considerable interest for their unique structural, optical and electronic properties that result from the large surface-to-volume ratio and the quantum confinement effect. In addition, because of QDs' excellent light-harvesting capacity, unique photoinduced electron transfer, and up-conversion behaviour, semiconductor nanoparticles decorated with quantum dots have been used widely in photocatalytic applications for the degradation of organic pollutants in both the gas and aqueous phases. This review is a comprehensive overview of the recent progress in synthesis methods for quantum dots and quantum dot-decorated semiconductor composites with an emphasis on their composition, morphology and optical behaviour. Furthermore, various approaches used for the preparation of QD-based composites are discussed in detail with respect to visible and UV light-induced photoactivity. Finally, an outlook on future development is proposed with the goal of overcoming challenges and stimulating further research into this promising field.

Abstract
Ag and graphene co-sensitized TiO2 composites were successfully fabricated and used as photoanodes for photogenerated cathodic protection of 304 stainless steel (304SS) under visible light. Graphene films was firstly deposited onto the TiO2 nanotube (NT) films via cyclic voltammetric electrodeposition. Ag/graphene/TiO2 films were then fabricated via dipping and photoreduction method. The morphology, composition and optical response of the Ag/graphene/TiO2 NT composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-vis diffusion reflectance spectroscopy, respectively. The photocathodic protection performance of the Ag/graphene/TiO2 composites were systematically studied through open-circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization measurements in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution under visible light (λ > 400 nm). The composites exhibited enhanced photogenerated cathodic protection performance for 304SS under visible light irradiation compared to pure TiO2. Graphene and Ag have a synergistic effect on the enhancement of photocathodic protection performance of TiO2. The composites prepared with 30-cycle graphene film and 15 mM AgNO3 solution showed the optimal corrosion protection performance.
