Importance of surface modification of γ-alumina in creating its nanostructured composites with zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-67

Enhanced adsorption of toluene on thermally activated ZIF-67: Characterization, performance, and modeling insights

The zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) has been explored for the dynamic adsorption of toluene vapor. We synthesized ZIF-67 through a straightforward room-temperature process and characterized it using XRD, FT-IR, DLS, and SEM techniques. The synthesized ZIF-67 possessed a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 1578.7 m2/g and 0.76 μm particle size. Thermal activation under various conditions revealed that ZIF-67, activated in dry air at 250 °C, demonstrated optimal adsorption efficacy. Its adsorption capacity, time of breakthrough, and time of equilibration were 414.5 mg/g, 420 min, and 795 min, respectively. We investigated the impact of diverse operational parameters on adsorption through breakthrough curve analysis. An increase in the toluene concentration from 100 to 1000 ppm enhanced the adsorption capacity from 171 to 414 mg/g, while breakthrough time decreased from 1260 min to 462 min, respectively. Our findings show that increasing relative humidity from 0 to 70 % reduced 53.7 % in adsorption capacity and 46.3 % in breakthrough time. The competitive adsorption of toluene and ethylbenzene revealed that ZIF-67 had a higher selectivity for toluene adsorption. A 98 % adsorbent's regeneration efficiency at the first cycle reveals its reusability. The experimental data were successfully fitted to the Yan, Thomas, and Yoon-Nelson models to describe the adsorption process. The statistical validation of the model parameters confirms their reliability for estimating adsorption parameters, thus facilitating the design of fixed-bed adsorption columns for practical applications.

Hollow Superstructure In Situ Assembled by Single-Layer Janus Nanospheres toward Electromagnetic Shielding Flame-Retardant Polyurea Composites

A dodecahedral superstructure consisting of a single layer of Janus spheres containing ZIF-67 nanodots is prepared by in situ polymerization, with ZIF-67 and bio-based phytic acid (PA) as templates and dopants. It is used to improve the flame retardant, electromagnetic (EMI) shielding, and thermal conductivity properties of polyurea (PUA). By adding 5 wt% polyaniline@cobalt phytate-2.0 (PANI@Co-PA-2.0), the peak of heat release rate and the peak of smoke production rate are reduced by 54.9 and 59.9%, respectively. The peak of CO and CO2 production also decreased by 46.2 and 53.1%, respectively. A decrease in the absorption intensity of aliphatic and aromatic volatiles is also observed. The fire safety of PUA is greatly improved. In addition, PUA/PANI@Co-PA-2.0 exhibits an EMI shielding capability of 22.4 dB with the help of reduced graphene oxide, which confirms the possibility of PUA material application in the field of electromagnetic shielding. The 5 wt% filler increases the tensile strength of the PUA matrix to 6.3 MPa, and the composite material obtains good thermal conductivity. This work provides a viable method for the preparation of a flame-retardant, conductive, and electromagnetic refractory PUA substrate.

Dual-signal ratiometric electrochemical immunosensor constructed with snowflake-like FeSe2-AuNPs and PAA-ZIF@TB for sensitive detection of CYFRA21-1

In this study, a ratiometric electrochemical immunosensor has been developed to detect the cytokeratin 19 fragment 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) biomarker in a highly sensitive manner through a dual-signal output model. As one of signal indicators, snowflake-like FeSe₂ loaded with AuNPs (FeSe₂-AuNPs) as sensing substrate with good conductivity and large active sites provides a differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) signal at +0.4 V. Another signal indicator, toluidine blue (TB) with the water-solubility property is an excellent redox probe that can generate DPV signal at -0.3 V. To solve the water-solubility problem, the TB is absorbed with polyacrylic acid (PAA) functionalized ZIF-67 (PAA-ZIF-67), which retains the properties of ZIF-67 that are large specific surface area and strong adsorption properties. The ratio of signals, stemmed from PAA-ZIF@TB and FeSe₂-AuNPs (I_PAA-ZIF@TB/I_FeSe2-AuNPs), increases with the CYFRA21-1 concentration. Under optimal experimental conditions, CYFRA21-1 was detected in a wide dynamic range from 0.1 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL, with a lower limit of detection of 0.02 pg/mL. Looking ahead, this ratio based strategy provides prospective clinical applications for detecting other biomarkers.

Imidazole ionic liquid functionalized ZIF-67 molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction coupled with high performance liquid chromatography for analysis of bisphenol A

An effective method based on an imidazole ionic liquid functionalized ZIF-67 molecularly imprinted solid-phase extractant (ZIF-67@[Bmim][Br]@MIP) coupled with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the separation/analysis of bisphenol A (BPA) was established. ZIF-67@[Bmim][Br]@MIP was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM and BET. Several important factors, such as pH, amount of extractant, extraction time, and types of eluents were investigated in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range of the method was 0.01-20.00 μg mL^-1, the detection limit was 5.0 ng mL^-1, and the linear correlation was good (R² = 0.9994). The detection of BPA in mineral water bottles, milk cartons and milk tea cups proved that the method was simple and effective, and could be used to separate and analyze BPA in real samples.

Study on the reaction strategy of directional alkylation fulfilled by controlling the adsorption pose of benzene and methanol in space with Ru/HZSM-5

BACKGROUND

The alkylation of benzene with methanol is an important synthetic method that is widely used in various chemical production processes. However, obtaining a high selectivity for xylene and annihilating the MTO side reaction remain challenges.

RESULTS

In this work, a Ru/HZSM-5 catalyst was prepared using ZSM-5 as the precursor by a chemical precipitation method. Both XRD and TEM confirmed that Ru nanoparticles were evenly dispersed on the surface of the ZSM-5. The catalytic performance of benzene alkylation with methanol on the Ru/HZSM-5 catalyst was investigated. The results showed that the Ru/HZSM-5 catalyst could completely annihilate the MTO side reaction with a high conversion efficiency of benzene and selectivity for xylene, which resulted from the large gap between the transgression energy value of Ru and the ionization potential value of benzene, and the acidity of the catalyst changed greatly.

CONCLUSION

These findings may offer not only a new and efficient multifunctional catalyst for benzene alkylation but also fundamental insight into the catalytic mechanism of the Ru/HZSM-5 catalyst.
