Abstract
Rocking-chair capacitive deionization (RCDI), as the next generation technique of capacitive deionization, has thrived to be one of the most promising strategies in the desalination community, yet was hindered mostly by its relatively low desalination rate and stability. Motivated by the goal of simultaneously enhancing the desalination rate and structural stability of the electrode, this paper reports an anion-driven flow-through RCDI (AFT-RCDI) system equipped with BiOCl nanostructure coated carbon sponge (CS@BiOCl for short; its backbone is derived from commercially available melamine foam with minimum capital cost) as the flow-through electrode. Owning to the rational design of the composite electrode material with minimum charge transfer resistance and ultrahigh structure stability as well as the superior flow-through cell architecture, the AFT-RCDI displays excellent desalination performance (desalination capacity up to 107.33 mg g-1; desalination rate up to 0.53 mg g-1s-1) with superior long-term stability (91.75% desalination capacity remained after 30 cycles). This work provides a new thought of coupling anion capturing electrode with flow-through cell architecture and employing a low-cost CS@BiOCl electrode with commercially available backbone material, which could shed light on the further development of low-cost electrochemical desalination systems.

Abstract
Capacitive deionization (CDI) is an evolving technology for eradicating salt and toxic heavy metal ions from brackish wastewater. However, traditional CDI electrodes have lower salt adsorption capacity and inadequate adsorption of selective metal ions for long-term operations. Herein, Ag nanospheres incorporated pomegranate peel-derived activated carbon (Ag/P-AC) was prepared and implied to the CDI process for removing NaCl, toxic mono-, di-, and trivalent metal ions. Morphological analysis revealed that the 80-100 nm-sized Ag nanospheres were uniformly decorated on the surfaces of P-AC nanosheets. The Ag/P-AC has a higher specific surface area (640 m2 g-1), superior specific capacitance (180 F g-1 at 50 mV s-1) and a lower charge transfer resistance (0.5 Ω cm2). CDI device was fabricated by Ag/P-AC as an anode, which adsorbed anions and P-AC as cathode for adsorption of positively charged ions at 1.2 V in an initial salt concentration of 1000 mg L-1. An asymmetric Ag/P-AC//P-AC exhibited a maximum NaCl adsorption capacity of 36 mg g-1 than symmetric P-AC//P-AC electrodes (22.7 mg g-1). Furthermore, Pb(II), Cd(II), F-, and As(III) ions were successfully removed from simulated wastewater by using Ag/P-AC//P-AC based CDI system. These asymmetric CDI-electrodes have an excellent prospect for the removal of salt and toxic contaminants in industrial wastewater.

Abstract
The design of hollow mesoporous carbon-based materials has attracted tremendous attention, due to their sizeable intrinsic cavity to load specific chemical and unique physical/chemical properties in various applications. Herein, we have established an effective strategy for the preparation of novel hollow carbon nanocapsules-based nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (CNCNF) with rosary-like structure. By embedding ultrafine hollow carbon nanocapsules into electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) skeleton, the as-designed composite CNFs were carbonized into hierarchical porous CNFs, consisted of interconnected nitrogen-doped hollow carbon nanocapsules. Due to its individual structural properties and unique chemical composition, the performance of CNCNF was evaluated in aptasensor application via the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA). Under optimized conditions, the aptasensor based on CNCNF has a detection limit of 1 CFU⋅mL-1 and a linear range from 101 CFU ⋅mL-1 to 107 CFU ⋅mL-1 (n = 3). Moreover, the designed aptasensor possesses high sensivity, high selectivity, low detection limit, and high reproducibility. These studies showed that the CNCNF material offers a wide variety of enhanced electrochemical features as an electrode material for aptasensor application.
