Abstract
Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) have high safety and excellent electrochemical performance, so applying GPEs in lithium batteries has received much attention. However, their poor lithium ion transfer number, cycling stability, and low room temperature ionic conductivity seriously affect the utilization of gel polymer electrolytes. This paper successfully synthesized flexible poly (vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene)-lithium titanium aluminum phosphate (PVDF-HFP-LATP) gel polymer electrolytes using the immersion precipitation method. The resulting GPE has a porous honeycomb structure, which ensures that the GPE has sufficient space to store the liquid electrolyte. The GPE has a high ionic conductivity of 1.03 ×10-3 S cm-1 at room temperature (25 °C). The GPE was applied to LiFePO4/GPE/Li batteries with good rate performance at room temperature. The discharge specific capacity of 1C was as high as 121.5 mAh/g, and the capacity retention rate was 94.0% after 300 cycles. These results indicate that PVDF-HFP-LATP-based GPEs have the advantage of simplifying the production process and can improve the utility of gel polymer lithium metal batteries.

Abstract
Lithium-ion solid-state batteries with spinel Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) electrodes have significant advantages, such as stability, long life, and good multiplication performance. In this work, the LTO electrode was obtained by the atmospheric plasma spraying method, and a composite solid electrolyte was prepared by in situ ultraviolet (UV) curing on the LTO electrode. The composite solid electrolyte was designed using a soft-hard combination strategy, and the electrolyte was prepared into a composite of a poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) flexible structure and high-conductivity Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LATP) hard particles. The composite electrolyte exhibited a good ionic conductivity up to 0.35 mS cm-1 at 30 °C and an electrochemical window above 4.0 V. In situ and ex situ electrolytes were assembled into LTO//electrolyte//Li solid-state batteries to investigate their impact on the electrochemical performance of the batteries. As a result, the assembled Li4Ti5O12//in situ electrolytes//Li batteries exhibited excellent rate of performance, and their capacity retention rate was 90% at 0.2 mA/cm2 after 300 cycles. This work provides a new method for the fabrication of novel advanced solid-state electrolytes and electrodes for applications in solid-state batteries.

Abstract
Linear polymer (e.g. polyethylene oxide, PEO) based electrolytes have been widely studied due to their flexibility and relatively good contact against electrodes. However, the linear polymers are prone to crystallization at room temperature and melting at moderate temperature, restricting their application in lithium metal batteries. To address these problems, a self-catalyzed crosslinked polymer electrolyte (CPE) was designed and prepared by the reaction of poly (ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether) (PEGDGE) and polyoxypropylenediamine (PPO) with only the bistrifluoromethanesulfonimide lithium salt (LiTFSI) added and with no any initiators. LiTFSI catalyzed the reaction by reducing the activation energy to form a crosslinked network structure, which was identified by calculation, NMR and FTIR. The as-prepared CPE has high resilience and a low glass transition temperature (Tg = -60 °C). Meanwhile, the solvent-free in-situ polymerization technique has been adopted in the assembly of the CPE with electrodes to decrease the interfacial impedance greatly and improve the ionic conductivity to 2.05 × 10-5 S cm-1 and 2.55 × 10-4 S cm-1 at room temperature and 75 °C, respectively. As a result, the in-situ LiFeO4/CPE/Li battery exhibits outstanding thermal and electrochemical stability at 75 °C. Our work has proposed an initiator-free and solvent-free in-situ self-catalyzed strategy of preparing high performance crosslinked solid polymer electrolytes.

Abstract
Li metal anode is considered as one of the most desirable candidates for next-generation battery due to its lowest electrochemical potential and high theoretical capacity. However, undesirable dendrite growth severely exacerbates the interfacial stability, thus damaging battery performance and bringing safety concerns. Here, an efficient strategy is proposed to stabilize Li metal anode by digesting dendrites sprout using a 3D flexible superlithiophilic membrane consisting of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and ZnCl2 composite nanofibers (PZEM) as a protective layer. Both the experimental studies and theoretical calculations show the origin of superlithiophilicity ascribed to a strong interaction between ZnCl2 and PVDF to form the ZnF bonds. The multifield physics calculation implies effective removal of local dendrite hotspots by PZEM via a more homogeneous Li+ flux. The PZEM-covered Li anode (PZEM@Li) exhibits superior Li deposition/stripping performance in a symmetric cell over 1100 cycles at a high current density of 5 mA cm-2 . When paired with LiFePO4 (LFP), PZEM@Li|LFP full cell remains stable over 1000 cycles at 2 C with a degradation rate of 0.0083% per cycle. This work offers a new route for efficient protection of Li metal anode for practical applications.

Abstract
Innovation in materials specially formulated for additive manufacturing is of great interest and can generate new opportunities for designing cost-effective smart materials for next-generation devices and engineering applications. Nevertheless, advanced molecular and nanostructured systems are frequently not possible to integrate into 3D printable materials, thus limiting their technological transferability. In some cases, this challenge can be overcome using polymeric macromolecules of ionic nature, such as polymeric ionic liquids (PILs). Due to their tuneability, wide variety in molecular composition, and macromolecular architecture, they show a remarkable ability to stabilize molecular and nanostructured materials. The technology resulting from 3D-printable PIL-based formulations represents an untapped array of potential applications, including optoelectronic, antimicrobial, catalysis, photoactive, conductive, and redox applications.

Abstract
Lithium-ion batteries, which have revolutionized portable electronics over the past three decades, were eventually recognized with the 2019 Nobel Prize in chemistry. As the energy density of current lithium-ion batteries is approaching its limit, developing new battery technologies beyond lithium-ion chemistry is significant for next-generation high energy storage. Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which rely on the reversible redox reactions between lithium and sulfur, appears to be a promising energy storage system to take over from the conventional lithium-ion batteries for next-generation energy storage owing to their overwhelming energy density compared to the existing lithium-ion batteries today. Over the past 60 years, especially the past decade, significant academic and commercial progress has been made on Li-S batteries. From the concept of the sulfur cathode first proposed in the 1960s to the current commercial Li-S batteries used in unmanned aircraft, the story of Li-S batteries is full of breakthroughs and back tracing steps. Herein, the development and advancement of Li-S batteries in terms of sulfur-based composite cathode design, separator modification, binder improvement, electrolyte optimization, and lithium metal protection is summarized. An outlook on the future directions and prospects for Li-S batteries is also offered.

Silica-assisted cross-linked polymer electrolyte membrane with high electrochemical stability for lithium-ion batteries. J Colloid Interface Sci 2021; 594:1-8. Abstract
This study aims to prepare an organic-inorganic reticular polymer electrolyte. Isocyanate acts as a bridge that connects fumed silica and PEO molecular chains. The PEO-TDI-SiO2 solid polymer electrolytes developed can significantly have improved ionic conductivity of 0.12 mS cm-1 at ambient temperature. This is because the TDI-SiO2 nanoparticles inhibits polymer crystallization which provides more continuous Li-ion transport pathways. Tests at 60 °C indicate that the cross-linked structure of covalent TSI bonded to PEO effectively enlarges the electrochemical window of the polymer electrolyte to 5.6 V. Also, the PTSI electrolyte membrane has a higher Li+ transference number of 0.33 compared to the PEO-LiTFSI electrolytes. It is worth noting that the assembled LiFePO4|PTSI8%|Li cells deliver outstanding rate performance and stable cycling performance. All these considerable merits of PTSI membrane demonstrate that PTSI is a promising candidate that can be used as solid polymer electrolytes for the next-generation Li-ion batteries.

Abstract
In the present article, an ionic liquid-based polymer gel electrolyte was synthesized by using poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) as a host polymer. The electrolyte films were synthesized by using the solution casting technique. The as-prepared films were free-standing and transparent with good dimensional stability. Optimized electrolyte films exhibit a maximum room-temperature ionic conductivity of σ = 8.9 × 10-3 S·cm-1. The temperature dependence of the prepared polymer gel electrolytes follows the thermally activated behavior of the Vogel-Tammann-Fulcher equation. The total ionic transference number was ≈0.91 with a wider electrochemical potential window of 4.0 V for the prepared electrolyte film which contains 30 wt % of the ionic liquid. The optimized films have good potential to be used as electrolyte materials for energy storage applications.

Abstract
Porous membranes fabricated from poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and a star polymer with linear poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) arms and cycloPEG cores were fabricated via the phase-separation method. The porous gel polymer electrolytes (PGPEs) were obtained by immersing the porous membranes in the electrolyte solution. When the additive amount of star polymer was up to 20 wt %, the prepared membrane had the largest porosity and the pores were uniformly distributed in the membrane. The star polymer can not only decrease the crystallization of PVDF and enhance the absorption of liquid electrolyte but also offer ion conduction channels (cycloPEG cores). Therefore, the PGPE with 20 wt % star polymers exhibited competitive ionic conductivities of 1.27 mS cm-1 at 30 °C and 2.89 mS cm-1 at 80 °C. To stabilize the liquid electrolyte in the holes of porous membranes, a gelator was introduced in the liquid electrolyte to form gelled porous gel polymer electrolytes (GPGPEs), and the leakage of liquid electrolytes was thus remarkably reduced. The ionic conductivity of GPGPEs with 20 wt % star polymer and 1.5 wt % gelator was importantly improved at high temperatures (6.02 mS cm-1 at 80 °C). We systematically investigated the electrochemical performances of PGPEs without star polymer, PGPEs with star polymer, and GPGPEs with star polymer. The incorporation of star polymers with linear PEG arms and cycloPEG cores into the PGPEs and GPGPEs significantly improved the electrochemical performances of the lithium metal/LiFePO4 cell assembled with the PGPEs or GPGPEs.

Abstract
Solid-state electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, large electrochemical window, and excellent stability with lithium electrode are needed for high-energy solid-state lithium batteries. In this work, a novel polyethylene oxide (PEO)-Lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)imide (LiTFSI)-nanocomposite-based polymer electrolyte was prepared by using nickel phosphate (VSB-5) nanorods as the filler. The ionic conductivity of the obtained PEO-LiTFSI-3%VSB-5 solid polymer electrolyte was found to be as high as 4.83 × 10-5 S·cm-1 at 30 °C and electrochemically stable up to about 4.13 V versus Li/Li+. The enhanced ionic conductivity was attributed to the reduced crystallinity of the PEO and the interaction between VSB and 5 and PEO-LiTFSI. In addition, the solid polymer electrolyte exhibited improved compatibility to the lithium metal anode with excellent suppression of lithium dendrites. The assembled LiFePO4/Li battery with the PEO-LiTFSI-3%VSB-5 solid polymer electrolyte showed better rate performance and higher cyclic stability than the PEO-LiTFSI electrolyte. It is demonstrated that this new solid polymer hybrid should be a promising electrolyte applied in solid state batteries with lithium metal electrode.
