Abstract
A GO-COOH/Ce complex was introduced into a phenolphthalide polythersulfone (PES-C) matrix to prepare a PES-C/(GO-COOH/Ce) blended membrane by nonsolvent-induced phase transformation (NIPS). FT-IR and EDS analysis confirmed that the GO-COOH/Ce complex was successfully incorporated into the PES-C matrix. SEM showed that the blended membrane possessed an asymmetric structure with finger-like pores. The best comprehensive performance was obtained for a PES-C/(GO-COOH/Ce) blended membrane prepared using 0.1 wt.% of the GO-COOH/Ce complex in the casting liquid. The specific results for the blended membrane were as follows: the fluxes of pure water and 0.1 g/L lead nitrate solution were 272 L/m2·h and 214 L/m2·h, respectively; the rejection of bovine serum albumin (BSA) was 99.4%; the rejection of lead ions was 96.2%; the moisture content was 10.9%; the contact angle was 67.1°; the Young's modulus was 35.7 MPa; and the flux recovery ratio was 1.5 times higher than that of the pure PES-C membrane. The antibacterial-zone diameters of the PES-C/(GO-COOH/Ce) blended membrane used against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were 2.50 cm and 2.88 cm, respectively. A catalytic cleaning test showed a flux recovery ratio of 63% after washing the PES-C/(GO-COOH/Ce) blended membrane with a 0.2 g/L acetic acid solution for 0.5 h.

Abstract
The field of membrane materials is one of the most dynamic due to the continuously changing requirements regarding the selectivity and the upgradation of the materials developed with the constantly changing needs. Two membrane processes are essential at present, not for development, but for everyday life—desalination and hemodialysis. Hemodialysis has preserved life and increased life expectancy over the past 60–70 years for tens of millions of people with chronic kidney dysfunction. In addition to the challenges related to the efficiency and separative properties of the membranes, the biggest challenge remained and still remains the assurance of hemocompatibility—not affecting the blood during its recirculation outside the body for 4 h once every two days. This review presents the latest research carried out in the field of functionalization of polysulfone membranes (the most used polymer in the preparation of membranes for hemodialysis) with the purpose of increasing the hemocompatibility and efficiency of the separation process itself with a decreasing impact on the body.

Abstract
In this study, a blend membrane consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and tertiary amine containing random copolymer poly(methyl methacrylate-r-dimethylamino-2-ethyl methacrylate) (P(MMA-r-DMAEMA)) was fabricated and utilized as an adsorptive membrane for micropollutants (anionic dye and heavy metal ions) removal from aqueous solutions. Cross-linking the random copolymer by p-xylylene dichloride (XDC) produced the membrane with improved copolymer retention ratio and stability, while slightly variated physicochemical properties. Besides, the fluxes of crosslinked blend membranes dramatically increased from 0.7 ± 0.1 L/(m2h) to 118.6 ± 5.9 L/(m2h). Then the present blend membrane was carried out adsorption and filtration experiments to investigate the influence of various of operation parameters including initial solution pH value, contacting time, initial solution concentration, and recycling efficiency on micropollutants removal. The experimental results showed that the removal of the anionic dyes and heavy metal ions on this tertiary amine containing blend membrane was a pH-dependent process with the maximum adsorption capacity at the initial solution pH of 3.5 for anionic dyes and 6.0 for metal ions, respectively. The membrane showed highly efficient capture of sunset yellow (above 99%). Meanwhile, the captured sunset yellow was recovered and concentrated with a small volume of alkaline solutions at pH 10.0, which simultaneously regenerated the membrane for its reuse. In a 3-cycle capture-recovery test, the membrane demonstrated a high sunset yellow recovery ratio and a volumetric concentration ratio as high as 400%. Our study provides an alternative strategy for functionalized membrane fabrication, micropollutants removal and recovery.

Abstract
Sulfonated polysulfone (SPSF) with different sulfonation degrees (10%, 30%, and 50%) was added to polyethersulfone (PES) to improve the separation and antifouling performance of polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membranes. The PES/SPSF blend ultrafiltration membrane was prepared by the non-solvent induced phase inversion method (NIPS), and the effect of sulfonation degree on the ultrafiltration performance was studied. The compatibility of SPSF and PES was calculated by the group contribution method, and confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The morphology and surface roughness of the membrane were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), the chemical composition of the membrane was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the permeability and anti-fouling performance of the blend membrane were studied through filtration experiments. The research shows that the flux and anti-fouling performance of the blend membrane have been improved after adding SPSF. When the sulfonation degree of the SPSF is 30%, the pure water flux of the blend membrane can reach 530 L m−2 h−1, the rejection rate of humic acid (HA) is 93%, the flux recovery rate of HA increases from 69.23% to 79.17%, and the flux recovery rate of BSA increases from 72.56% to 83%.
