Synergistic effect of defects and porous structure in CoCCHH-CoSe heterogeneous-tube @PEDOT:PSS foam towards elastic supercapacitor with enhanced pseudocapacitances

In-situ electrodeposited Co0.85Se@Ni3S2 heterojunction with enhanced performance for supercapacitors

Rational design of porous heterostructured electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors remains a big challenge. Herein, we report the in situ synthesis of Co0.85Se@Ni3S2 hybrid nanosheet arrays supported on carbon cloth (CC) substrate though an efficient two-step electrodeposition method. Compared with pure Co0.85Se and Ni3S2, the well-defined Co0.85Se@Ni3S2 heterojunction possesses enriched active sites, improved electrical conductivity, and reduced ion diffusion resistance. Benefiting from its hierarchically porous nanostructure and the synergistic effect of Co0.85Se and Ni3S2, the as-synthesized Co0.85Se@Ni3S2 electrode delivers a gravimetric capacitance (Cg)/volumetric capacitance (Cv) of 1644.1F g-1/3161.7F cm-3 at 1 A g-1, outstanding rate capability of 60.7% capacitance retention at 20 A g-1, as well as good cycling performance of 87.8% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles. Additionally, a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) device presents a maximum energy density (E) of 65.7 Wh kg-1 at 696.2 W kg-1 with 93.3% cyclic durability after 15,000 cycles. Thus, this work proposes a simple and effective strategy to fabricate porous heterojunctions as high-performance electrode materials for energy storage devices.

Graphene Quantum Dots Pinned on Nanosheets-Assembled NiCo-LDH Hollow Micro-Tunnels: Toward High-Performance Pouch-Type Supercapacitor via the Regulated Electron Localization

A combined delicate micro-/nano-architecture and corresponding surface modification at the nanometer level can co-tailor the physicochemical properties to realize an advanced supercapacitor electrode material. Herein, nanosheets-assembled nickel-cobalt-layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) hollow micro-tunnels strongly coupled with higher-Fermi-level graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are reported. The unique hollow structure endows the electrolyte accessible to more electroactive sites, while 2D nanosheets have excellent surface chemistry, which favors rapid ion/electron transfer, synergistically resulting in more super-capacitive activities. The experimental and density functional theory calculations recognize that such a precise decoration generally tunes the charge density distribution at the near-surface due to the Fermi-level difference of two components, thus regulating the electron localization, while decorating with conductive GQDs co-improves the charge mobility, affording superior capacitive response and electrode integrity. The as-acquired GQDs@LDH-2 electrode yields excellent capacitance reaching ≈1628 F g^-1 at 1 A g^-1 and durable cycling longevity (86.2% capacitive retention after 8000 cycles). When coupled with reduced graphene oxide-based negative electrode, the hybrid device unveils an impressive energy/power density (46 Wh kg^-1 / 7440 W kg^-1 ); moreover, a flexible pouch-type supercapacitor can be constructed based on this hybrid system, which holds high mechanical properties and stable energy and power output at various situations, showcasing superb application prospects.

Banana Peel and Conductive Polymers-Based Flexible Supercapacitors for Energy Harvesting and Storage

Flexible supercapacitors are highly demanding due to their wearability, washability, lightweight property and rollability. In this paper, a comprehensive review on flexible supercapacitors based on conductive polymers such as polypyrrole (PPy), polyaniline (PANI) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxtthiophne)-polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). Methods of enhancing the conductivity of PEDOT:PSS polymer using various composites and chemical solutions have been reviewed in detail. Furthermore, supercapacitors based on carbonized banana peels and methods of activation have been discussed in point. This review covers the up-to-date progress achieved in conductive polymer-based materials for supercapacitor electrodes. The effect of various composites with PEDOT:PSS have been discussed. The review result indicated that flexible, stretchable, lightweight, washable, and disposable wearable electronics based on banana peel and conductive polymers are highly demanding.
