Innovative construction of a novel lanthanide cerate nanostructured photocatalyst for efficient treatment of contaminated water under sunlight

Modification of ultrasound-pretreated montmorillonite using poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) for W and Mo separation and the sequential application in removal of heavy metals

The use of a resin to selectively separate thiomolybdate from a tungsten (W) feed solution is a well-known protocol for achieve high-purity W products; however, the regeneration of saturated resin is laborious. In this study, poly(diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) (PDADMA) was used to modify ultrasound-pretreated montmorillonite (Mt) for W and molybdenum (Mo) separation for the first time, and the resultant tetrathiomolybdate (MoS42-)-loaded composite was further tested to remove heavy metals instead of regeneration. Among the three variables of ultrasound pretreatment, that is, Mt concentration, ultrasound power, and treatment time, the Mt concentration exhibited the most significant influence followed by ultrasound power on the separation performance of W and Mo. Compared to the distance of the interlayer space and the surface charge of the modified Mt, the PDADMA content showed a closer correlation with the W/Mo separation coefficient. Assisted by Box-Behnken design, with Mt concentration of 6.9 g/L, ultrasound power of 593.8 W, and treatment time of 13.8 min, the composite with the greatest separation coefficient was obtained. The adsorption of Cu(II) on the optimal W/Mo separation-derived composite was ascribed to the formation of Cu-S complexes, while that of Pb(II) was attributed to complexation and surface precipitation. In contrast, ion exchange with the initially loaded anions, reduction by sulfide to Cr(III), and formation of Cr(III)-S complexes accounted for Cr(VI) removal. The adsorption of Cu(II) and Pb(II) equilibrated faster and showed higher acid-resistance than that of Cr(VI). The adsorption capacities for Cu(II), Pb(II), and Cr(VI) were 0.535, 1.398, and 0.882 mmol/g, respectively. Applying PDADMA to modify Mt as a reagent for W/Mo separation was feasible, and the derived composite was capable of removing cationic and anionic heavy metals.

Novel rod-like [Cu(phen)2(OAc)]·PF6 complex for high-performance visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of hazardous organic dyes: DFT approach, Hirshfeld and fingerprint plot analysis

A novel octahedral distorted coordination complex was formed from a copper transition metal with a bidentate ligand (1,10-Phenanthroline) and characterized by Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, and Single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Hirshfeld surface and fingerprint plot analyses were conducted to determine the interactions between atoms in the Cu(II) complex. DFT calculations showed that the central copper ion and its coordinated atoms have an octahedral geometry. The Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) map indicated that the copper (II) complex is an electrophilic compound that can interact with negatively charged macromolecules. The HOMO-LUMO analysis demonstrated the π nature charge transfer from acetate to phenanthroline. The band gap of [Cu(phen)2(OAc)]·PF6 photocatalyst was estimated to be 2.88 eV, confirming that this complex is suitable for environmental remediation. The photocatalytic degradation of erythrosine, malachite green, methylene blue, and Eriochrome Black T as model organic pollutants using the prepared complex was investigated under visible light. The [Cu(phen)2(OAc)]·PF6 photocatalyst exhibited degradation 94.7, 90.1, 82.7, and 74.3 % of malachite green, methylene blue, erythrosine, and Eriochrome Black T, respectively, under visible illumination within 70 min. The results from the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic analysis demonstrated that the Cu(II) complex has a higher efficiency for the degradation of cationic pollutants than the anionic ones. This was attributed to surface charge attraction between photocatalyst and cationic dyes promoting removal efficiency. The reusability test indicated that the photocatalyst could be utilized in seven consecutive photocatalytic degradation cycles with an insignificant decrease in efficiency.

WS2-intercalated Ti3C2Tx MXene/TiO2-stacked hybrid structure as an excellent sonophotocatalyst for tetracycline degradation and nitrogen fixation

Designing a heterostructure nanoscale catalytic site to facilitate N2 adsorption and photogenerated electron transfer would maximize the potential for photocatalytic activity and N2 reduction reactions. Herein, we have explored the interfacial TiO2 nanograins between the Ti3C2TxMXene-WS2 heterostructure and addressed the beneficial active sites to expand the effective charge transfer rate and promote sonophotocatalytic N2 fixation. Benefiting from the interfacial contact and dual heterostructure interface maximizes the photogenerated carrier separation between WS2 and MXene/TiO2. The sonophotocatalytic activity of the MXene@TiO2/WS2 hybrid, which was assessed by examining the photoreduction of N2 with ultrasonic irradiation, was much higher than that of either sonocatalytic and photocatalytic activity because of the synergistic sonocatalytic effect under photoirradiation. The Schottky junction between the MXene and TiO2 on the hybrid MXene/TiO2-WS2 heterostructure resulted in the sonophotocatalytic performance through effective charge transfer, which is 1.47 and 1.24 times greater than MXene-WS2 for nitrogen fixation and pollutant degradation, respectively. Under the sonophotocatalytic process, the MXene/TiO2-WS2 heterostructure exhibits a decomposition efficiency of 98.9 % over tetracycline in 90 min, which is 5.46, 1.73, and 1.10 times greater than those of sonolysis, sonocatalysis, and photocatalysis, respectively. The production rate of NH3 on MXene/TiO2-WS2 reached 526 μmol g-1h-1, which is 3.17, 3.61, and 1.47 times higher than that of MXene, WS2, and MXene-WS2, respectively. The hybridized structure of MXene-WS2 with interfacial surface oxidized TiO2 nanograins minimizes the band potential and improves photocarrier use efficiency, contributing directly to the remarkable catalytic performance towards N2 photo fixation under visible irradiation under ultrasonic irradiation. This report provides the strategic outcome for the mass carrier transfer rate and reveals a high conversion efficiency in the hybridized heterostructure.

Synergistic effects of layered Ti3C2TX MXene/MIL-101(Cr) heterostructure as a sonocatalyst for efficient degradation of sulfadiazine and acetaminophen in water

In this work, different mass loadings of MXene-coupled MIL-101(Cr) (MXe/MIL-101(Cr)) nanocomposites were generated through a hydrothermal process in order to investigate the potential of this nanocomposite as a novel sonocatalyst for the elimination of sulfadiazine (SD) and acetaminophen (AAP) in aqueous media. The sonocatalytic activity of different MXe/MIL-101(Cr) compositions and surface functionalities was investigated. In addition, the sonocatalytic activities at various pH values, temperatures, pollutant concentrations, catalyst dosages, initial H2O2 concentrations, and organic matter contents were investigated. The experiments on the sonocatalytic elimination of SD and AAP revealed that MXe/MIL-101(Cr) exhibited a catalytic efficiency of ∼ 98% in 80 min when the MXene loading was 30 wt% in the nanocomposite. Under optimized reaction conditions, the degradation efficiency of MXe/MIL-101(Cr) reached 91.5% for SD and 90.6% for AAP in 60 min; these values were 1.2 and 1.8 times greater than those of MXene and MIL-101(Cr), respectively. The high surface area of the MXe/MIL-101(Cr) nanocomposite increased from 4.68 m2/g to 294.21 m2/g, and the band gap of the tagged MIL-101(Cr) on the MXene surface was minimized. The superior sonocatalytic activity of MXe/MIL-101(Cr) was attributed to the effective contact interface, the effective separation rate of e- - h+ pairs through the type II heterostructure interface, and the favorable high free •OH radical production rates that promoted the degradation of SD and AAP. The solid heterointerface between MIL-101(Cr) and MXene was confirmed through Raman and FTIR analysis and was found to promote accessible •OH radical production under sonication, thus maximizing the catalytic activity of nanocomposites. The present results present an effective strategy for the design of a highly efficient, low-cost, reliable sonocatalyst that can eradicate pharmaceutical pollutants in our environment.

Preparation, multi-scale structures, and functionalities of acetylated starch: An updated review

Acetylated starch has been widely used as food additives. However, there was limited information available regarding the impact of acetylation on starch structure and functionalities, as well as the advanced acetylation technologies. This review aimed to summarize current methods for starch acetylation and discuss the structure and functionalities of acetylated starch. Innovative techniques, such as milling, microwave, pulsed electric fields, ultrasonic, and extrusion, could be employed for environmental-friendly synthesis of acetylated starch. Acetylation led to the degradation of starch structures and weakening of the interactions between starch molecules, resulting in the disorganization of starch multi-scale ordered structure. The introduction of acetyl groups retarded the self-reassembly behavior of starch, leading to increased solubility, clarity, and softness of starch-based hydrogels. Moreover, the acetyl groups improved water/oil absorption capacity, emulsifiability, film-forming properties, and colonic fermentability of starch, while reduced the susceptibility of starch molecules to enzymes. Importantly, starch functionalities were largely influenced by the decoration of acetyl groups on starch molecules, while the impact of multi-scale ordered structures on starch physicochemical properties was relatively minor. These findings will aid in the design of structured acetylated starch with desirable functionalities.

Avocado seed starch: Effect of the variety on molecular, physicochemical, and digestibility characteristics

Agro-industrial residues can increase environmental pollution owing to poor knowledge of the use of some components, such as dietary fiber, protein, starch, minerals, and bioactive compounds, which can be used in the food industry. This study compared the molecular, physicochemical, and digestibility characteristics of three avocado seed starches (Criolla, Fuerte, and Hass). Starch was extracted through successive washing and sedimentation. The morphology, size distribution, thermal properties, pasting properties, infrared spectra with Fourier transform, size distribution of amylopectin chains, and digestibility of the three avocado seed strains were analyzed. The starch grains were oval and spherical in shape. The average size of Criolla avocado starch (24.55 μm) was the largest, followed by Hass and Fuerte starches (21.37 μm). Higher gelatinization enthalpy (8.55 J/g), gelatinization temperature (75.28 °C), and pasting temperature (75.57 °C) were observed for Fuerte avocado starch, followed by Hass and Criolla starches. Hass avocado starch exhibited higher maximum (836.27 mPa.s), final (1407.37 mPa.s), setback (588.78 mPa.s), and breakdown (17.68 mPa.s) viscosities than Criolla and Fuerte avocado starches. In addition, the probed avocado starches exhibited high content of resistant starch (60.06-68.90%). Therefore, it was demonstrated that differences in the chemical composition and structure of avocado starch can affect the digestibility of native starch.

Catalytic Activity of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) in Advanced Oxidation Processes of Wastewater Pollutants: A Review

In recent years, sewage treatment plants did not effectively remove emerging water pollutants, leaving potential threats to human health and the environment. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have emerged as a promising technology for the treatment of contaminated wastewater, and the addition of catalysts such as heavy metals has been shown to enhance their effectiveness. This review focuses on the use of rare earth elements (REEs) as catalysts in the AOP process for the degradation of organic pollutants. Cerium and La are the most studied REEs, and their mechanism of action is based on the oxygen vacancies and REE ion concentration in the catalysts. Metal oxide surfaces improve the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to form hydroxide species, which degrade the organics. The review discusses the targets of AOPs, including pharmaceuticals, dyes, and other molecules such as alkaloids, herbicides, and phenols. The current state-of-the-art advances of REEs-based AOPs, including Fenton-like oxidation and photocatalytic oxidation, are also discussed, with an emphasis on their catalytic performance and mechanism. Additionally, factors affecting water chemistry, such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, inorganic species, and natural organic matter, are analyzed. REEs have great potential for enhancing the removal of dangerous organics from aqueous solutions, and further research is needed to explore the photoFenton-like activity of REEs and their ideal implementation for wastewater treatment.

Structural and functional insights in polysaccharides coated cerium oxide nanoparticles and their potential biomedical applications: A review

Cerium oxide nanoparticles have now significant presence in biomedical fields due to their wide applications; however, challenges regarding their safety and biocompatibility persist. Polysaccharides based biopolymers have inherent hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, enabling them to govern the surface functionalization of cerium oxide nanoparticles, hence their chemical and physical characteristics. Because of this, polysaccharides such as dextran, alginate, pullulan, chitosan, polylactic acid, starch, and pectin are practical substitutes for the conventional coatings used to synthesize cerium oxide nanoparticles. This review discusses the effect of biopolymer coatings on the properties of cerium oxide nanoparticles, such as size, stability, aggregation, and biocompatibility. Additionally, it also summarises various biomedical applications of polysaccharides coated cerium oxide nanoparticles, such as in bone tissue regeneration, liver inflammation, wound healing, and antibacterial and anticancer activities. Biocompatible cerium oxide nanoparticles will surely improve their applications in the biomedical field.

Significant photocatalytic decomposition of malachite green dye in aqueous solutions utilizing facilely synthesized barium titanate nanoparticles

The release of malachite green dye into water sources has detrimental effects on the liver, kidneys, and respiratory system. Additionally, this dye can impede photosynthesis and disrupt the growth and development of plants. As a result, in this study, barium titanate nanoparticles (BaTiO₃) were facilely synthesized using the Pechini sol-gel method at 600 °C (abbreviated as EA600) and 800 °C (abbreviated as EA800) for the efficient removal of malachite green dye from aqueous media. The Pechini sol-gel method plays a crucial role in the production of barium titanate nanoparticles due to its simplicity and ability to precisely control the crystallite size. The synthesized barium titanate nanoparticles were characterized by several instruments, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and a diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer. The XRD analysis confirmed that the mean crystallite size of the EA600 and EA800 samples is 14.83 and 22.27 nm, respectively. Furthermore, the HR-TEM images confirmed that the EA600 and EA800 samples exhibit irregular and polyhedral structures, with mean diameters of 45.19 and 72.83 nm, respectively. Additionally, the synthesized barium titanate nanoparticles were utilized as catalysts for the effective photocatalytic decomposition of malachite green dye in aqueous media. About 99.27 and 93.94% of 100 mL of 25 mg/L malachite green dye solution were decomposed using 0.05 g of the EA600 and EA800 nanoparticles within 80 min, respectively. The effectiveness of synthesized BaTiO₃ nanoparticles as catalysts stems from their unique characteristics, including small crystallite sizes, a low rate of hole/electron recombination owing to ferroelectric properties, high chemical stability, and the ability to be regenerated and reused multiple times without any loss in efficiency.

Perspectives of nanofibrous wound dressings based on glucans and galactans - A review

Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process that needs an appropriate environment to overcome infection and inflammation to progress well. Wounds lead to morbidity, mortality, and a significant economic burden, often due to the non-availability of suitable treatments. Hence, this field has lured the attention of researchers and pharmaceutical industries for decades. As a result, the global wound care market is expected to be 27.8 billion USD by 2026 from 19.3 billion USD in 2021, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6 %. Wound dressings have emerged as an effective treatment to maintain moisture, protect from pathogens, and impede wound healing. However, synthetic polymer-based dressings fail to comprehensively address optimal and quick regeneration requirements. Natural polymers like glucan and galactan-based carbohydrate dressings have received much attention due to their inherent biocompatibility, biodegradability, inexpensiveness, and natural abundance. Also, nanofibrous mesh supports better proliferation and migration of fibroblasts because of their large surface area and similarity to the extracellular matrix (ECM). Thus, nanostructured dressings derived from glucans and galactans (i.e., chitosan, agar/agarose, pullulan, curdlan, carrageenan, etc.) can overcome the limitations associated with traditional wound dressings. However, they require further development pertaining to the wireless determination of wound bed status and its clinical assessment. The present review intends to provide insight into such carbohydrate-based nanofibrous dressings and their prospects, along with some clinical case studies.

Lignin/sodium alginate hydrogel for efficient removal of methylene blue

In this work, a class of bio-based hydrogels (LN-NH-SA hydrogel) were prepared from aminated lignin and sodium alginate. The physical and chemical properties of the LN-NH-SA hydrogel were fully characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, N₂ adsorption-desorption isotherms, and other techniques. LN-NH-SA hydrogels were tested for the adsorption of dyes (methyl orange and methylene blue). The LN-NH-SA@3 hydrogel showed better adsorption efficiency for MB with a maximum adsorption capacity of 388.81 mg·g^-1, a bio-based adsorbent with a high adsorption capacity. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model and fitted to the Freundlich isotherm equation. More importantly, LN-NH-SA@3 hydrogel maintained 87.64 % adsorption efficiency after 5 cycles. Overall, the proposed hydrogel with environmentally friendly and low cost is promising for the absorption of dye contamination.

Analysis of the geological control on the spatial distribution of potentially toxic concentrations of As and F- in groundwater on a Pan-European scale

The distribution of the high concentrations of arsenic (As) and fluoride (F^-) in groundwater on a Pan-European scale could be explained by the geological European context (lithology and structural faults). To test this hypothesis, seventeen countries and eighteen geological survey organizations (GSOs) have participated in the dataset. The methodology has used the HydroGeoToxicity (HGT) and the Baseline Concentration (BLC) index. The results prove that most of the waters considered in this study are in good conditions for drinking water consumption, in terms of As and/or F^- content. A low proportion of the analysed samples present HGT≥ 1 levels (4% and 7% for As and F^-, respectively). The spatial distribution of the highest As and/or F^- concentrations (via BLC values) has been analysed using GIS tools. The highest values are identified associated with fissured hard rock outcrops (crystalline rocks) or Cenozoic sedimentary zones, where basement fractures seems to have an obvious control on the distribution of maximum concentrations of these elements in groundwaters.

Synergistic modification of polylactic acid by oxidized straw fibers and degradable elastomers: A green composite with good strength and toughness

Polylactic acid-based (PLA) composites are widely used in biomedicine, electrical components, food packaging and other fields, but their unsatisfactory mechanical properties such as high brittleness and poor toughness, cause problems in functional applications. This work developed a green and environmentally friendly strategy to improve PLA mechanical properties. Flexible polybutylene succinate (PBS) and alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) treated straw fibers (SF) synergistically modified PLA. AHP is decomposed into a large amount of HOO-, which oxidizes the hydroxyl groups in SF to carboxyl groups to obtain oxidized straw fiber (OSF), which reacts with PLA in the molten state to form new ester bonds. The tensile strength of the OSF/PLA composite is 41.78 MPa, 38 % higher than the SF/PLA composite. The impact toughness of OSF/PBS/PLA composite is 14.47 KJ/m² increased by 54 % after the adding PBS, while the tensile strength was also better than the control group. The synergistic action of PLA and PBS in OSF is attributed to the formation of new chemical bonds, efficient crystallization, and compatible interface. This study provides a new strategy to produce fiber-reinforced PLA composites with good toughness. It takes positive significance for developing degradable plastics with good performance and controllable cost.

AMPK regulates behavior and physiological plasticity of Haliotis discus hannai under different spectral compositions

In natural environments, the spectral composition of incident light is often subject to drastic changes due to the abundance of suspended particles, floating animals, and plants in coastal waters. In this study, after four months of culturing under blue light (NB), orange light (NY), dark environment (ND), and natural light (NN), the shell length and weight-specific growth rate in Pacific abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, were ranked in the following order: NY > NN > ND > NB. To understand the growth differences in abalone under these different light environments, we first performed 24-h video monitoring and found that the cumulative movement distance and duration were lowest in group NB, whereas the cumulative movement distance and duration were significantly higher in group ND than in any other group (P < 0.05). In group NB, the time spent hidden underneath the attachment substrate accounted for 81% of the resting time, but this ratio was lowest in group ND, at only 37% (P < 0.05). Next, LC-MS metabolomics identified 201 and 105 metabolites in NB vs. NN, ND vs. NN, and NY vs. NN under the positive and negative ion modes, respectively. According to the fold changes and annotations for differential metabolites in the KEGG enrichment pathways, adenosine, NAD⁺, cGMP, and arachidonic acid were used as differential metabolism markers, and the AMPK signaling pathway was enriched in every comparison group, and thus investigated further. The gene sequences of three subtypes of AMPK were obtained by cloning and we found that the expression levels of AMPKα and AMPKγ, and the AMP content were significantly higher in group NB than in any other group (P < 0.05). In addition, the ATP contents and adenylate energy charge values were ranked in the following order: NY > NN > ND > NB. According to in situ hybridization analysis, the three subtype genes were widely expressed in the hepatopancreas. Finally, the contents of many lipid metabolites differed significantly among groups and the expression levels of the triglyceride hydrolysis-related gene hormone sensitive lipase and fatty acid oxidation-related gene carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 were higher in groups ND and NB than in groups NN and NY according to fluorescence quantification PCR (P < 0.05). The expression levels of fatty acid synthase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase were significantly lower in groups ND and NB than in groups NN and NY (P < 0.05). These findings indicated that differences in the spectral composition of incident light could reshape the behavior and physiological metabolism in abalone by influencing the "energy switch" AMPK, thereby providing some insights into the mechanisms that allow nocturnal marine organisms to adapt to different lighting environments.

Metagenomic binning and assembled genome analysis revealed the distinct composition of resistome and mobilome in the Ili River

Rivers play an important role in receiving and transporting the resistome among different environmental compartments. However, the difference in resistome and mobilome between the water and sediment and their underlying mechanisms were still poorly understood. In this study, the Ili River, an important water source in the arid area of Central Asia, was selected as the studied target. The comprehensive profile of resistome and mobilome and their host in water and sediment were studied based on metagenomic binning and assembled genome (MAG) analysis. The relative abundance of resistome and mobilome in sediment were 28.0 - 67.8 × /Gb and 46.5 - 121.1 × /Gb, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in water (23.1 - 52.8 ×/Gb and 25.3 - 67.7 ×/Gb). Multidrug and macrolides-lincosamides-streptogramin (MLS) resistance genes were the main ARG types in both water and sediment from relative abundance. Transposases dominated the relative abundance of mobilome, followed by insert elements and integrases. Strong correlations were found between the relative abundance of resistome and mobilome (r > 0.6 and p < 0.01) in both water and sediment, indicating the mobilome played an important role in the propagation of resistome in the Ili River. The main hosts for multidrug resistance genes via MAG analysis differed in water (Alphaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria) and sediment (Gammaproteobacteria). Distinct compositions of resistome and mobilome existed between water and sediment in the Ili River. Specificity-occupancy analysis of the differential resistome and mobilome showed that occurrence frequencies and habitat selections of the differential ARGs shaped the resistome of water and sediment. In contrast, habitat was the main driver that shaped the mobilome in the Ili River.

A Highly Breathable and Machine-Washable ePTFE-Aided Down-Proof Cotton Fabric

Feather and down textiles are widely used in our daily life, especially in winter. However, they are easily drilled out from the fabric body and are difficult to machine-wash, which thereby blocks their widespread application. In order to solve these issues, a highly anti-drilling, breathable and machine-washable ePTFE-aided down-proof cotton fabric was prepared in this work, which was done by modifying a plain-weave cotton fabric with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) nanofiber membrane via point glue method. The fabrication procedure is simple, scalable and environmentally friendly, which is a prerequisite for large-scale production. The effects of tumble and washing cycles on pore size distribution and the corresponding anti-drilling behavior of the prepared down-proof fabric were systematically investigated. Furthermore, the machine washability, air permeability, thermal insulation and tensile properties of the fabric were studied. The results demonstrated that less than five drilled files escaped from the fabric surface, irrespective of tumble and/or laundering cycles, and it also has the advantages of being lightweight (<83 g/m2), having high breathability, a good thermal insulation rate (≈80%) and can be washed with surfactant by a laundry machine without explosion. Benefiting from the above characteristics, the as-prepared ePTFE-aided down-proof cotton fabric presents its potential application in the field of home textiles.

Spectroscopic and Physicochemical Studies on 1,2,4-Triazine Derivative

A novel 5-(5-Bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-6-oxo-3-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-1,2,4-triazine-2(1H)-carbothioamide (4) “compound 4” was synthesized. The chemical structure of compound 4 was confirmed with spectroscopic techniques. Thermal analysis (TGA/dTGA) studies were conducted for identifying the kinetic thermodynamic parameters and the thermal stability of the synthesized compound 4. Cyclic voltammetric studies were performed for recognizing electrochemical characteristics of the synthesized compound 4. The calculated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), and the band gap were found to be −3.61, −5.32, and 1.97 eV, respectively. Using a diffused reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) technique, the estimated values of the optical band transitions of compound 4 in powder form were found to be 2.07 and 2.67 eV. The structural properties of thermally evaporated compound 4 thin films were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. It was found that compound 4 has a triclinic crystal structure. The optical transitions and the optical dispersion factors of compound 4 thin films were investigated using a UV-Vis spectroscopy technique. From the UV-Vis spectroscopy technique, Egind=3.6 V was estimated for both the as-deposited and annealed thin films. For the as-deposited film, there were two photoluminescence (PL) emission peaks centered at 473 and 490 nm with a shoulder at 422 nm. For the annealed film at 423 K, there were five PL emission peaks centered at 274, 416, 439, 464, and 707 nm with a shoulder at 548 nm. The dark electrical conduction of compound 4 thin film was through a thermally activated process with activation energy equaling 0.88 eV.
