A universal synthesis of MOF-Hydroxyl for highly active oxygen evolution

Interface Engineering-Modulated Nanoscale Bimetallic CoFe-MIL-88A In-Situ-Grown on 2D V2CTx MXene for Electrocatalytic Nitrogen Reduction

The electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) provides a sustainable green development route for the nitrogen-neutral cycle. In this work, bimetallic CoFe-MIL-88A with two active sites (Fe, Co) were immobilized on a 2D V2CTx MXene surface by in situ growth method to achieve the purpose of the control interface. A large number of heterostructures are formed between small CoFe-MIL-88A and V2CTx, which regulate the electron transfer between the catalyst interfaces. The adsorption and activation of nitrogen on the active sites were enhanced, and the NRR reaction kinetics was accelerated. CoFe-MIL-88A is tightly arranged on V2CTx, which makes CoFe-MIL-88A/V2CTx have better hydrophobicity and can significantly inhibit the hydrogen evolution reaction. The synergistic effect of multicatalytic active sites and multi-interface structure of CoFe-MIL-88A/V2CTx MXene is propitious to nitrogen efficiently and stably to convert into ammonia under environmental conditions with superior selectivity and good catalytic activity. The NH3 yield rate is 29.47 μg h-1 mgcat-1 at -0.3 V vs RHE, and the Faradaic efficiency (FE) is 28.86% at -0.1 V vs RHE. The catalytic mechanism was verified to conform to the distal pathway. This work will provide a new way to develop an MXene-based electrocatalyst for eNRR.

Lignin-modified metal-organic framework as an effective adsorbent for the removal of methyl orange

Herein, lignin-modified metal-organic frameworks (NH2-UIO@L) are prepared using a one-step synthesis as sorbents for the removal of organic dyes from water. The introduction of lignin improved the adsorption sites. NH2-UIO@L2 adsorption of MO conforms to Langmuir model, and the adsorption capacity of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO was 214.13 mg·L-1 with an adsorption efficiency up to 99.28 %, which was significantly higher than values for other adsorbents. Due to hydrogen bonds, π-π interactions and electrostatic interactions, MO was effectively removed by NH2-UIO@L2 and its adsorption efficiency is maintained at 90.55 % after six cycles. The adsorption kinetics showed that the NH2-UIO@L2 adsorption of MO was chemical adsorption and controlled by intraparticle diffusion and external mass transfer. Further, the adsorption performance of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO and MB in mixed MO/MB solution was investigated. The adsorption capacity of NH2-UIO@L2 in mixed MO/MB solution was 207.04 mg·L-1 for MO and 243.31 mg·L-1 for MB; the adsorption of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO followed the Dubinin-Radushkevich and pseudo-second-order models, and the adsorption on MB followed the Temkin and pseudo-second-order models. Hydrogen bonds, π-π interactions, and pore filling are all implicated in the removal of MO and MB. In particular, the electrostatic attraction between MB and MO improves the adsorption efficiency of NH2-UIO@L2 on MB. NH2-UIO@L2 has good reusability, maintaining an adsorption efficiency of 97.66 % for MO and up to 99.15 % for MB after six cycles. Its simple preparation and superior adsorption suggest that NH2-UIO@L2 has considerable potential to remove organic dyes from wastewater.

Construction of NiFe(CN)5NO/Ni3S2 hierarchical submicro-rods on nickel foam as advanced oxygen evolution electrocatalysts

The development of cheap, abundant, and highly efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is urgently needed for hydrogen production from water splitting. Herein, we demonstrate a novel OER electrocatalyst (NiFe(CN)₅NO/Ni₃S₂) prepared by coupling Ni₃S₂ and a bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) of NiFe(CN)₅NO on nickel foam (NF) via a simple two-step route. The NiFe(CN)₅NO/Ni₃S₂ electrocatalyst displays an interesting rod-like hierarchical architecture assembled by ultrathin nanosheets. The combination of NiFe(CN)₅NO and Ni₃S₂ optimizes the electronic structure of the metal active sites and increases the electron transfer capability. Benefitting from the synergistic effect between Ni₃S₂ and the NiFe-MOF as well as the unique hierarchical architecture, the NiFe(CN)₅NO/Ni₃S₂/NF electrode exhibits excellent electrocatalytic OER activity with ultralow overpotentials of 162/197 mV at 10/100 mA cm^-2 and an ultrasmall Tafel slope of 26 mV dec^-1 in 1.0 M KOH, which are far superior to those of the individual NiFe(CN)₅NO, Ni₃S₂ and commercial IrO₂ catalysts. In particular, unlike common metal sulfide-based electrocatalysts, the composition, morphology and microstructure of the NiFe-MOF/Ni₃S₂ composite electrocatalyst can be well retained after the OER, which endows it with fantastic long-term durability. This work offers a new strategy for the construction of novel and high-efficiency MOF-based composite electrocatalysts for energy applications.
