Abstract
Background/Objectives: Defects in maxillary and mandibular alveolar ridges are common in maxillofacial practice. Reconstruction with microvascular bone grafts and subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation is the gold standard treatment. This study investigated patients' quality of life (QoL) after microvascular alveolar ridge reconstruction with subsequent dental rehabilitation. The effect of the underlying disease and success rates of the prosthetic treatment on QoL were analysed. Methods: OHIP-49 was used to evaluate oral health-related QoL (OHrQoL). The SF-36 was used to assess disease-nonspecific QoL. Results: Fifty-eight patients were enrolled and divided into four diagnostic (malignancy, osteoradionecrosis, benign disease, and cleft palate) and five prosthetic groups (no prosthetics, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, implant-supported removable dentures, and implant-supported fixed dentures). There was a significant difference between the diagnostic groups in the total score of their OHIP-49 (p = 0.008). Patients with malignant disease and osteoradionecrosis had worse QoL scores than those with benign diseases and cleft palate. Implant-supported prostheses had the best OHrQoL. Removable partial dentures and patients in whom dental rehabilitation was not possible had the worst OHrQoL (p = 0.042). The SF-36 subscale score showed no statistically significant differences between the diagnostic and prosthetic groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: OHrQoL after microvascular alveolar ridge reconstruction differs significantly based on underlying diagnoses and prosthetic restorations. Benign diseases and implant-supported dentures have the highest scores.

Abstract
The evaluation of surveillance imaging of OSCC patients is a difficult task physicians have to face daily. Multiple patients experience a recurrence of this disease, which underlines the importance of regular patient monitoring programs. Our study analysed the value of surveillance imaging, such as computed tomography (CT) and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI), as a patient monitoring programme and its effectiveness in achieving improvement in early recurrence detection. The study comprised 125 patients, out of which 56 (n = 56) showed radiological and 69 (n = 69) showed clinical and radiological conspicuous patterns in domestic follow-ups, respectively. The use of CT and NMRI showed a significant dependence on the histological result (p = 0.03). However, the different groups showed no significant dependence on the histological result (p = 0.96). The distribution of the histological biopsies, which were taken due to radiological changes, were prone to wrong positive diagnoses (false positives) in 71 percent. To conclude, imaging modalities should be chosen for each patient individually to reduce false positives, improve the early detection of recurrence, and increase the cure rate.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term survival rates and assess the long-term quality of life (QoL) of patients treated for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Patients, who underwent primary surgical tumor resection for OSCC at a single hospital center in Germany between 1998 and 2016, were eligible for inclusion in this analysis of survival rates and QoL parameters. The University of Washington-QoL version 4 (UW-QoL v4) questionnaire was administered to the patients in the years 2015 and 2016. The cases of 145 patients with the histological diagnosis of OSCC were included in this study. Despite a common distribution of tumor stage, the 1-year survival rate was 88.0% and the 5-year survival rate was 70.0%. The QoL questionnaire item, 'pain' (84) was selected most frequently. Chewing (50) and swallowing (58) yielded the lowest score. Chewing and swallowing impairment correlated significantly with an increase in tumor size, higher tumor stages, and the use of radio (chemo-)therapy (p < 0.001). In this retrospective study, patients reported significant long-term dysphagia and difficulty chewing. These parameters should be investigated in prospective studies to evaluate methods that could reduce the risk of suffering from these impairments.

Abstract
The diagnosis of cancer and its treatment have an incomparable impact on a patient's life. In the early postoperative stages after the surgical treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), functions and well-being are limited, which leads to a fundamental decline of the quality of life (QoL). To date, no studies have been performed that focus on the development of special aspects during the time of the in-patient stay of OSCC patients. With the results of this cross-sectional study, we are able to identify those patients who tend to require special support. This cross-sectional study determined the postoperative QoL with a questionnaire (QU) that was handed out twice to OSCC patients after surgery during their inpatient stay. The questions were based on the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)'s Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ)-C30 and QLQ-H&N35. In our study, we found that for postoperative OSCC patients, eating, swallowing and speech were influenced the most. After decannulation, tracheotomy showed no impact on functions. Social contact was impaired at both timepoints. Especially female patients consider themselves to be more impaired on the scale of social contact. QoL should be checked with a standardized QU as an established tool during hospitalization in every oncology department. Only this procedure can pinpoint those patients who have struggles with their surgical outcome and need more assistance.

Abstract
Objective. This study aimed to compare the physical and mental states and the clinical effects of parenteral nutrition combined with enteral nutrition (PN+EN), total enteral nutrition (TEN), and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) after surgery in patients with maxillofacial malignant tumors. Methods. A total of 112 patients were divided into three groups, with 58, 33, and 21 patients in the PN+EN, TPN, and TEN groups, respectively. The psychological survey contained the Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FRS-R), visual analog scale (VAS), numerical rating scale (NRS), Hamilton anxiety rating scale (HAMA), and short-form 36 health survey questionnaire (SF-36). Spirit symptoms, length of hospital stay, nutritional assessments, and related biochemical indices were recorded and compared. Results. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptoms of anxiety and dysphoria were least frequently identified in the TPN group. The levels of lymphocytes, hemoglobin (HB), albumin (ALB), and prealbumin (PA) were significantly higher in the PE+EN group, whereas white blood cell count, neutrophil count, HB, PA, and ALB were significantly lower in the TPN group. Better psychological scores were observed in the TPN group. The PE+EN group had a shorter length of stay and higher SGA categories. Potassium, sodium, and chlorine levels were significantly lower in the TEN group (all P < 0.05). Conclusions. As an auxiliary method, TCM symptoms can help to identify spirit disequilibrium earlier and are associated with blood indices. Without the consideration of cost and long length of hospital stay, patients in the TPN group had the best mental status, with PN+EN therapy being an alternative.
