Synthesis of silver nanoparticles by using rice husk extracts prepared with acid–alkali pretreatment extraction process

Prospective of Agro-Waste Husks for Biogenic Synthesis of Polymeric-Based CeO2/NiO Nanocomposite Sensor for Determination of Mebeverine Hydrochloride

BACKGROUND

The remarkable properties of nickel oxide (NiO) and cerium oxide (CeO₂) nanostructures have attracted considerable interest in these nanocomposites as potential electroactive materials for sensor construction.

METHODS

The mebeverine hydrochloride (MBHCl) content of commercial formulations was determined in this study using a unique factionalized CeO₂/NiO-nanocomposite-coated membrane sensor.

RESULTS

Mebeverine-phosphotungstate (MB-PT) was prepared by adding phosphotungstic acid to mebeverine hydrochloride and mixing with a polymeric matrix (polyvinyl chloride, PVC) and plasticizing agent o-nitrophenyl octyl ether. The new suggested sensor showed an excellent linear detection range of the selected analyte at 1.0 × 10^-8-1.0 × 10^-2 mol L^-1 with regression equation E_mV = (-29.429 ± 0.2) log [MB] + 347.86. However, the unfunctionalized sensor MB-PT displayed less linearity at 1.0 × 10^-5-1.0 × 10^-2 mol L^-1 drug solution with regression equation E_mV = (-26.603 ± 0.5) log [MB] + 256.81. By considering a number of factors, the applicability and validity of the suggested potentiometric system were improved following the rules of analytical methodological requirements.

CONCLUSION

The created potentiometric technique worked well for determining MB in bulk substance and in medical commercial samples.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from peel extract of Chrysophyllum albidum fruit and their antimicrobial synergistic potentials and biofilm inhibition properties

Current methods for green synthesis of metal nanoparticles often require continuous harvesting of fresh bio-materials for every synthesis cycle. Practices and procedures that economize bio-materials need to be employed if green synthesis could become a sustainable and eco-friendly method for synthesizing metal nanoparticles. This study explores Chrysophyllum albidum peels (mostly regarded as waste) to prepare silver nanoparticles (Alb-AgNPs). The technique employed in the synthesis allows repeated use of the peels, thus, reducing the heavy dependence on bio-materials. The optical and structural properties of the Alb-AgNPs were studied with Scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and powder X-ray diffractometer. The antimicrobial properties of the Alb-AgNPs were studied with selected microorganisms namely; S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, B. subtilis, S. mutans, P. aeruginosa, S. typhi, and Candida albicans. High inhibitory activity against the microorganisms were exhibited with MICs ranging from 15.62 to 1000 µg/mL. Again, the Alb-AgNPs showed the ability to enhance the efficacy of standard antimicrobial agents. The results of the combined interaction with standard antibacterial and antifungal agents ranged from synergistic to antagonistic effects against the tested microorganisms. In addition, the Alb-AgNPs could serve as a biofilm inhibitor with the highest percent inhibition of about 92% against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The results from this study thus provide access to the simple, sustainable, economic and eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles with efficient antimicrobial properties as drug candidates as a means of overcoming the prevailing antibiotic resistance menaces.

Nanocidal Effect of Rice Husk-Based Silver Nanoparticles on Antioxidant Enzymes of Aphid

Green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant-based extracts is momentously used in different fields of science because of their environment-friendly nature and cost-effectiveness. In the present study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized by using rice husk (non-toxic agricultural by-product) to determine their efficacy against aphid's (Sitobion avanae) mortality and antioxidant enzymes. UV-VIS spectroscopy of synthesized nanoparticles showed the maximum absorption peak at 440 nm, FTIR exhibited different peaks, and SEM confirmed the roughly spherical shape and 70-80 nm size of silver nanoparticles. Aphids were reared on wheat seedlings in the laboratory at 20-25 °C and 16:8 (light:dark) photoperiod. Insecticidal bioassays were conducted on aphids at three different concentrations (200 ppm, 400 ppm, 600 ppm) of nanoparticles for 2 days. Results showed the highest mortality of aphids being 93.3% at 600 ppm nanoparticle concentration after 2 days while the lowest mortality was observed at 200 ppm. Furthermore, the effect of silver nanoparticles on antioxidant enzymes was studied. Results of enzyme assays revealed that enzyme activities of catalase and glutathione-s-transferase increased in response to increased nanoparticle concentration. The current findings suggested that silver nanoparticles have probation for replacing commercially available insecticides for combating pests.

Novel fabrication of SiO2/Ag nanocomposite by gamma irradiated Fusarium oxysporum to combat Ralstonia solanacearum

The bacterial wilt is a global destructive plant disease that initiated by the phytopathogenic Ralstonia solanacearum. This study display a novel biofabrication of silica/silver nanocomposite using Fusarium oxysporum-fermented rice husk (RH) under solid state fermentation (SSF). The biofabricated nanocomposite was characterized by XRD, UV–Vis. spectroscopy, DLS, SEM, EDX elemental mapping, and TEM analyses as well as investigated for anti-R. solanacearum activity. Response surface methodology was also processed for optimizing the biofabrication process and improving the anti-bacterial activity of the fabricated nanocomposite. Maximum suppression zone of 29.5 mm against R. solanacearum was reached at optimum RH content of 6.0 g, AgNO₃ concentration of 2.50 mM, reaction pH of 6.3, and reaction time of 2 days. The anti-R. solanacearum activity of the fabricated nanocomposite was further improved by exposing the F. oxysporum strain to a gamma irradiation dose of 200 Gy. In conclusion, RH recycling under SSF by F. oxysporum could provide an innovative, facile, non-expensive, and green approach for fabricating SiO₂/Ag nanocomposite that could be applied efficiently as an eco-friendly antibacterial agent to combat R. solanacearum in agricultural applications. Moreover, the developed method could serve as a significant platform for the designing of new nanostructures for broad applications.
