Abstract
Objective: This paper aimed to assess the impact of the acetone wet-bonding (AWB) technique on dentin bonding and to investigate its potential underlying mechanisms. Materials and Methods: Caries-free third molars were sliced, ground, etched, water-rinsed. Then the specimens were randomly allocated to four groups according to the following pretreatments: 1. water wet-bonding (WWB); 2. ethanol wet-bonding (EWB); 3. 50% (v/v) acetone aqueous solution (50%AWB); 4. 100% acetone solution (AWB). Singlebond universal adhesive was then applied and composite buildups were constructed. The microtensile bond strength (MTBS), failure modes and interface nanoleakage were respectively evaluated after 24 h of water storage, 10,000 times of thermocycling or 1-month collagenase ageing. In situ zymography and contact angle were also investigated. Results: Acetone pretreatment preserved MTBS after thermocycling or collagenase ageing (p < 0.05) without affecting the immediate MTBS (p > 0.05). Furthermore, AWB group manifested fewer nanoleakage than WWB group. More importantly, the contact angle of the dentin surfaces decreased significantly and collagenolytic activities within the hybrid layer were suppressed in AWB group. Conclusion: This study suggested that the AWB technique was effective in enhancing the dentin bond durability by increasing the wettability of dentin surface to dental adhesives, removing residual water in the hybrid layer, improving the penetration of adhesive monomer, and inhibiting the collagenolytic activities. Clinical significance: The lifespan of adhesive restorations would be increased by utilization of acetone wet-bonding technique.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide (EDC) and chitosan (CHI) on the adhesive interface of resin cements to root dentine. Forty-five upper canines were sectioned, endodontically treated, prepared and divided into three groups according to dentine treatment (distilled water-DW, CHI 0.2% and EDC 0.5) and in three subgroups according to resin cement: RelyX ARC, Panavia F 2.0 or RelyX U200. Slices were obtained, with five slices of each third submitted to the analysis of the adaptation of the adhesive interface through scores and the perimeter with gaps in confocal laser scanning microscopy and one slice of each third later evaluated qualitatively in scanning electron microscopy. The results were analyzed using with Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests. There was no difference in adaptation for the different resin cements (p = .438). EDC presented better adaptation when compared to the groups treated with DW and CHI (p < .001), while the CHI and DW presented similar adaptation values (p = .365). No difference was observed in the perimeter referring to the gap areas for the different resin cements (p = .510). EDC showed a lower percentage of perimeters with gaps when compared to CHI (p < .001), with the percentage of perimeter with gaps of teeth treated with CHI being lower than DW (p < .001). A positive correlation coefficient equal to 0.763 was obtained between the perimeter with gaps and the adaptation data of the adhesive interface (p < .001). EDC resulted in better adaptation of the adhesive interface and a lower percentage of perimeters with gaps compared to chitosan.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of different root canal irrigation protocols applied to the dentin and artificial aging procedures on the micro pushout bond strength (mPBS) between dentin and hybrid ceramic posts. Seventy-five single-rooted mandibular premolar teeth were divided into 5 groups (Gr1-5). 50 of the teeth were used for the mPBS tests (n = 10), whereas 25 were used for the smear layer examinations (n = 5). Post space were prepared and irrigated with different irrigation-protocols in each group. (Gr1:[SS], Gr2:[NaOCl] + SS, Gr3:[EDTA] + NaOCl + SS, Gr4:[MA] + NaOCl + SS, Gr5:[Ch] + NaOCl + SS). Post and core pattern were fabricated with pattern resin and a fiber post, after scanning, the posts were milled with Vita Enamic resin ceramic block, and cemented. After 7 days the roots were sliced at thicknesses of 1 mm; half of them were subjected to mPBS test, while the other half were tested after undergoing mechanical cycling for artificial aging. For data analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk test was utilized to test normal distributions, 3-way analysis of variance was used to compare mPBS, and Tukey's HSD test was conducted for multiple comparisons. SEM analysis was performed for examination of failure modes and smear layer removal. Different root canal irrigation protocols affected mPBS significantly. While Gr4 had the highest mPBS, Gr1 had the lowest. Regarding to different zones, the highest mPBS was in coronal zone, and the lowest one was in the apical zone. The aging procedure also led to a statistically-significant decrease in mPBS. Most frequent failure modes were cohesive failure in dentin and mixed failure. Irrigation with 7%MA (Gr4) showed better performance than 17% EDTA (Gr3) in smear layer removal, especially at the apical zone of the tooth. This is critical for the success of root canal treatment and increased the mPBS to a higher extent in all zones of the tooth.

Abstract
Systematic review and network meta-analyses were performed to answer the question: Do intraradicular chemical pretreatments affect the bond strength of the adhesive interface between dentine and fiber post cements? A literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, and Cochrane Library in October 2018 (updated September 2021). In vitro studies that compared the bond strength assessed by push-out tests following at least two dentine chemical treatments prior to fiber post cementation were included. Risk of bias was evaluated. A random-effects Bayesian-mixed treatment comparison model was used to compare push-out bond strength of different chemical pretreatments. SUCRA (surface area under the cumulative ranking) analysis was performed to rank the pretreatments. After removing duplicates and screening titles and abstracts, 61 studies remained. SUCRA analysis showed that the best bond strength values for self-etch, etch-and-rinse, and self-adhesive cements were ethyl acetate (SUCRA: 99.8%), low concentration NaOCl (SUCRA: 83.4%), and grape seed extract (SUCRA: 97.6%), respectively. According to the SUCRA rankings, ethanol was in a good position for all adhesive strategies (SUCRA: 78.6%). The use of chemical pretreatments in intraradicular dentine of endodontically treated teeth depends on the adhesive and cementation strategy. The pretreatment generally associated with the highest bond strength was ethanol.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This paper aimed to evaluate the influence of resveratrol-doped adhesive on the durability and antibiofilm capability of dentin bonding. METHODS Experimental adhesives were prepared by incorporating resveratrol into a universal adhesive at concentrations of 0 (control), 0.1, 1, and 10 mg/mL. The microtensile bond strength, fracture modes, and adhesive-dentin interface nanoleakage were assessed after 24 h of water storage, 10,000 times of thermocycling or 1-month of collagenase ageing. Relevant antibiofilm capability on Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), in situ zymography, degree of conversion, and cytotoxicity of resveratrol-doped adhesives were also determined. RESULTS Irrespective of thermocycled or collagenase ageing, the resveratrol-doped adhesive (1 mg/mL) maintained the bond strength and reduced the nanoleakage expression. Meanwhile, the inhibitory ability on endogenous protease activity and S. mutans biofilm formation with acceptable biocompatibility were obtained. CONCLUSIONS This study suggested that the resveratrol-doped adhesive achieved effective improvement on dentin bond durability and secondary caries management. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The application of the resveratrol-doped adhesive indicates promising benefits to increase the lifetime of composite restorations.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) solution and thermal cycling on the bond strength (BS) of fiber posts to the root dentin using two different resin cements (conventional or self-adhesive). One hundred and forty-four bovine roots were endodontically treated. After post space preparation, specimens were randomly divided into six groups (n = 24) according to dentin pretreatment [distilled water, 0.05% EGCG solution or 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) solution] and resin luting agent used for fiber post cementation (RelyX ARC or RelyX U200-3 M ESPE). Then, the samples were separated into two subgroups (n = 12): storage in distilled water at 37 °C for 24 h and thermal cycling (5 °C/55 °C, dwell time 30 s-12,000 cycles) during 6 months. After that, the specimens were subjected to the pull-out BS test (Universal Testing Machine-0.5 mm/min) and the failures pattern was analyzed in a stereomicroscope. According to the BS results (three-way ANOVA, Tukey's test, α = 0.05), the highest values were reported in the group EGCG + RelyX U200, showing significant statistical differences compared to all the other experimental groups. For Control and CHX groups BS values, there was no significant difference (p > .05) between the resin cements. For conventional resin cement, there was no significant difference among treatment solutions (p > .05). The thermal cycling did not influence the BS results (p > .05). As reported by the failure mode analysis, adhesive failure was predominant in all groups. EGCG solution improved the bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement to root dentin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the influence of different sealers used in root canal filling, in terms of bond strength (BS) to dentin, after restoration of weakened roots using resin composite (RC) and fiber posts. MATERIAL AND METHODS Roots of 39 maxillary incisors were used. After root canal preparation, root dentin was flared to produce a space between fiber post and root canal walls. The root canals were randomly distributed into three groups (n = 13), according to the sealer used: Endofill, AH Plus, and Acroseal. After removing the filling material to a depth of 12 mm, the flared roots were adhesively restored using RC. Posts were cemented and, after 24 h, roots were sectioned transversely producing 1-mm-thick slices. The slices from 30 roots were used for push-out test, and failure modes were noted. The remaining slices were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). RESULTS Statistical analysis by 2-way ANOVA showed a significant difference among sealers (p = 0.001) and among root regions (p < 0.001). The BS mean of Endofill was lower and significantly different from the others. Overall, the coronal region presented higher BS mean values, followed by the middle and apical regions of the reinforced roots. The most frequent failure type was the adhesive failure between RC and dentin. SEM analysis showed the formation of a hybrid layer and many tags in the coronal and middle regions, while the apical region exhibited remnants of the endodontic sealers in all groups. CONCLUSIONS AH Plus and Acroseal sealer groups presented similar results, and the Endofill sealer negatively affected the BS of fiber post to restored root dentin. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Weakened dentin walls are often found in teeth undergoing endodontic treatment, so the sealer used must allow or at least not interfere the bonding between restorative materials and root dentin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine whether dentin-adhesive interface stability would be improved by dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) wet-bonding and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). METHODS Etched dentin surfaces from sound third molars were randomly assigned to five groups according to different pretreatments: group 1, water wet-bonding (WWB); group 2, 50% (v/v) DMSO wet-bonding (DWB); groups 3-5, 0.01, 0.1, and 1 wt% EGCG-incorporated 50% (v/v) DMSO wet-bonding (0.01%, 0.1%, and 1%EGCG/DWB). Singlebond universal adhesive was applied to the pretreated dentin surfaces, and composite buildups were constructed. Microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and interfacial nanoleakage were respectively examined after 24 h water storage or 1-month collagenase ageing. In situ zymography andStreptococcus mutans (S. mutans) biofilm formation were also investigated. RESULTS After collagenase ageing, μTBS of groups 4 (0.1%EGCG/DWB) and 5 (1%EGCG/DWB) did not decrease (p > 0.05) and was higher than that of the other three groups (p < 0.05). Nanoleakage expression of groups 4 and 5 was less than that of the other three groups (p < 0.05), regardless of collagenase ageing. Metalloproteinase activities within the hybrid layer in groups 4 and 5 were suppressed. Furthermore, pretreatment with 1%EGCG/DWB (group 5) efficiently inhibited S. mutans biofilm formation along the dentin-adhesive interface. SIGNIFICANCE This study suggested that the synergistic action of DMSO wet-bonding and EGCG can effectively improve dentin-adhesive interface stability. This strategy provides clinicians with promising benefits to achieve desirable dentin bonding performance and to prevent secondary caries, thereby extending the longevity of adhesive restorations.

Abstract
This study evaluated the influence of a bonding approach using proanthocyanidins (PAs) combined with ethanol-wet bonding (EWB) and a hydrophobic adhesive on the bonding quality of fibre posts. After endodontic treatment and post-space preparation, 72 single-rooted extracted human teeth were etched, thoroughly rinsed, and then treated using the following procedures (n = 24 teeth per group): group 1, no pretreatment; group 2, pretreatment with absolute ethanol three times, for 30 s each time; or group 3, pretreatment with absolute ethanol solution containing 5% PAs three times, for 30 s each time. Six teeth per group were dried according to a dry and a wet drying protocol and then observed using field emission-scanning electron microscopy. The remaining 18 teeth in each group were cemented with fibre posts: All-Bond 3 and Duo-Link cement were used for group 1; and hydrophobic adhesive and Duo-Link cement were used for groups 2 and 3. Push-out bond strength, failure mode, and nanoleakage were evaluated immediately and after collagenase treatment. Higher push-out bond strength and less nanoleakage were observed in the two ethanol-pretreatment groups, regardless of storage conditions. Teeth pretreated with PAs + ethanol exhibited significantly higher push-out bond strength after collagenase treatment than did teeth pretreated with ethanol alone. Within the limits of this study, the bonding approach of PAs combined with EWB and a hydrophobic adhesive synergistically improved the durability of fibre post bonds.

Abstract
This in vitro study aimed to assess the effects of different pretreatments used to adapt glass-fiber posts cemented to root canals with different resin cements, regarding porosity percentage and bond strength. Twelve bovine incisor roots were prepared with Largo drills. After post space preparation, the specimens were randomized into two types of pretreatment groups (n = 3): water-wet bonding and ethanol-wet bonding. After the post were cemented, the roots were stored in 100% humidity at room temperature for 7 days. The samples were scanned by microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). Images were reconstructed by NRecon software, and CTAn software was used to analyze the porosity percentage (%) at the luting interface. Evaluation of the push-out bond strength was performed by serially cutting the roots, and submitting the slices to testing. Additionally, the resin cement post-gel shrinkage values (%) were measured using the strain-gauge method (n = 10). Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, Tukey's test and Student's t test (a = 0.05). The roots prepared with ethanol-wet bonding using RelyX™ U200 had significantly lower porosity in the coronal and apical thirds (p < 0.05). The group prepared with ethanol-wet bonding using RelyX™ ARC presented better bond strength results in the coronal and apical thirds (p < 0.05). RelyX™ ARC (0.97%) produced a higher post-gel shrinkage value than RelyX™ U200 (0.77%). Canals pretreated with ethanol-wet bonding presented better outcomes in regard to porosity percentage and push-out bond strength.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The surface free energy of conditioned-dentin is one of the factors that interfere with monomeric infiltration of the interfibrillar spaces. Saturation of the tooth matrix with different substances may modulate this energy and, consequently, the wettability of the dentin. AIM To evaluate the influence of different substances used to saturate conditioned-dentin on surface free energy (SFE) of this substrate. MATERIALS AND METHODS Dentin blocks (4 × 7 × 1 mm, n = 6/ group), obtained from the roots of bovine incisors, were etched using phosphoric acid for 15 seconds, rinsed and gently dried. The surfaces were treated for 60 seconds with: ultra-purified water (H20-control); ethanol (EtOH), acetone (ACT), chlorhexidine (CHX), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA); or sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). The tooth surfaces were once again dried with absorbent paper and prepared for SFE evaluation using three standards: water, formamide and bromonaphthalene. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Dunnet's tests (a = 0.05) were applied to the data. RESULTS Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid was the only substance that caused a change to the contact angle for the standards water and formamide, while only EtOH influenced the angles formed between formamide and the dentin surface. None of the substances exerted a significant effect for bromonaphtha-lene. In comparison to the control, only EDTA and NaOCl altered both polar components of the SFE. Total SFE was increased by saturation of the collagen matrix by EDTA and reduced when NaOCl was used. CONCLUSION Saturation of the collagen matrix by EDTA and EtOH changed the surface free energy of the dentin. In addition, the use of NaOCl negatively interfered with the properties evaluated. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The increase of surface free energy and wettability of the dentin surface would allow higher penetration of the the adhesive system, which would be of importance to the clinical success of resin-dentin union.
