Abstract
The outstanding amplification observed in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is due to several enhancement mechanisms, and standing out among them are the plasmonic (PL) and charge-transfer (CT) mechanisms. The theoretical estimation of the enhancement factors of the CT mechanism is challenging because the excited-state coupling between bright plasmons and dark CT states must be properly introduced into the model to obtain reliable intensities. In this work, we aim at simulating electrochemical SERS spectra, considering models of pyridine on silver clusters subjected to an external electric field E⃗ that represents the effect of an electrode potential Vel. The method adopts quantum dynamical propagations of nuclear wavepackets on the coupled PL and CT states described with linear vibronic coupling models parametrized for each E⃗ through a fragment-based maximum-overlap diabatization. By presenting results at different values of E⃗, we show that indeed there is a relation between the population transferred to the CT states and the total scattered intensity. The tuning and detuning processes of the CT states with the bright PLs as a function of the electric field are in good agreement with those observed in experiments. Finally, our estimations for the CT enhancement factors predict values in the order of 105 to 106, meaning that when the CT and PL states are both in resonance with the excitation wavelength, the CT and PL enhancements are comparable, and vibrational bands whose intensity is amplified by different mechanisms can be observed together, in agreement with what was measured by typical experiments on silver electrodes.

Abstract
We present a computational model for electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman scattering (EC-SERS). The surface excess of charge induced by the electrode potential (Vel) was introduced by applying an external electric field to a set of clusters [Agn]q with (n, q) of (19, ±1) or (20, 0) on which a molecule adsorbs. Using DFT/TD-DFT calculations, these metal-molecule complexes were classified by the adsorbate partial charge, and the main Vel-dependent properties were simultaneously studied with the aid of vibronic resonance Raman computations, namely, changes on the vibrational wavenumbers, relative intensities, and enhancement factors (EFs) for all SERS mechanisms: chemical or nonresonant, and resonance Raman with bright states of the adsorbate, charge-transfer (CT) states, and plasmon-like excitations on the metal cluster. We selected two molecules to test our model, pyridine, for which Vel has a remarkable effect, and 9,10-bis((E)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)vinyl)anthracene, which is almost insensitive to the applied bias. The results nicely reproduced most of the experimental observations, while the limitations of our approach were critically evaluated. We detected that accounting explicitly for the surface charges is key for EC-SERS models and that the highest calculated EFs, up to 107 to 108, are obtained by interstate coupling of bright local excitations of the metal cluster and CT states. These results highlight the importance of nonadiabatic effects in SERS and the capabilities of EC-SERS as a technique with potential to study excited-state coupling by tuning the CT and plasmon-like states by manipulating Vel.

Abstract
This work uses electrochemical surface sensitive vibrational spectroscopy to characterize the adsorption of a known metal nanoparticle stabilizer and growth director, 4-methoxypyridine (MOP). Surface enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) is employed to study the adsorption of 4-methoxypyridine on gold films. Experiments are performed under electrochemical control and in different electrolyte acidities to identify both the extent of protonation of the adsorbed species as well as its orientation with respect to the electrode surface. No evidence of adsorbed conjugated acid is found even when the electrolyte pH is considerably lower than the pKa. Through an analysis of the transition dipole moments, determined from DFT calculations, the SEIRA spectra support an adsorption configuration through the ring nitrogen which is particularly dominant in neutral pH conditions. Adsorption is dependent on both the electrical state of the Au film electrode as well as the presence of ions in the electrolyte that compete for adsorption sites at positive potentials. Combined differential capacitance measurements and spectroscopic data demonstrate that both a horizontal adsorption geometry and a vertical adsorption phase can be induced, with the former being found on negatively charged surfaces in acidic media and the latter over a wide range of polarizations in neutral solutions.

Abstract
SERS provides essential data regarding the interaction of molecules in drugs with DNA. In the present study silver nanoparticles were synthesized using a solution combustion method with urea as fuel. The prepared silver nanoparticles are rod like structure. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of N-(1-2-bromophenyl)-2-(2-nitrophenyl)ethyl)-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide (BrS) adsorbed on the silver nanoparticle was studied. The nRs and Raman spectral analysis reveal that the BrS adsorbed tilted orientation on the silver surface. Vibrational modes of nRs along with HF calculations are also performed to study the HOMO and LUMO behavior and vibrational features of BrS.

Abstract
Magnetic Fe2O3/Au core/shell nanoparticles can be particularly used in biological separation, but the development of an appropriate technique including a production process for higher efficient separation and the subsequent immunoassay for lower level still represent a great challenge. In this article, Fe2O3/Au core/shell nanoparticles with different Au ratios were prepared by reducing HAuCl4 on the surface of gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) spectra clearly show that the surfaces of Fe2O3 nanoparticles were covered by Au. SERS signals of pyridine (Py) have been obtained on the Fe2O3/Au nanoparticles, and it has been found that the SERS intensity enhanced with the increase of iterative additions of HAuCl4. The antigens in test solution have been effectively separated by the magnetic Fe2O3/Au core/shell nanoparticles, and subsequent rapid detection was examined by immunoassay analysis based on SERS. The result demonstrates that the magnetic bioseparation program used by this magnetic Fe2O3/Au core/shell nanoparticles could separate almost all of the antigens in test solution. The ease of operation and good separation efficiency of this effective method has shown a potential application for magnetic Fe2O3/Au core/shell nanoparticles in bioseparation.

Abstract
Electrochemical surface-enhanced hyper-Raman scattering (SEHRS) and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of centrosymmetric molecules on Ag film over nanosphere (AgFON) electrodes are presented. The SEHR spectra of trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (BPE) at different potentials (vs Ag/AgCl) are presented for the first time, and a reversible potential tuning of the SEHR spectra of BPE is demonstrated. The SEHRS and SERS techniques were used to determine to what extent either site symmetry reduction or field gradient effects dictate the origin of the observed vibrational spectra. It is found that the SEHR and SER spectra for the molecules studied were distinctly different at all frequency regions at a fixed voltage, suggesting that centrosymmetry is largely retained upon adsorption to the AgFON surface and that field gradient effects are negligible. This work also shows that the SEHR spectra clearly depend on potential, whereas the SER spectra are essentially independent of potenial. It is determined that the combination of changes in deltaGads and the presence of coadsorbed counterions are responsible for altering the local symmetry of the adsorbate and only SEHRS has the sensitivity to detect these changes in the surface environment. Thus, SEHRS is a uniquely useful spectroscopic tool that is much more sensitive to the local adsorption environment than is SERS.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) in the attenuated-total-reflection configuration (ATR-SEIRAS) has been applied for the first time to Ni electrodes. SEIRA-active Ni electrodes were obtained through initial chemical deposition of a 60-nm-thick Au underlayer on the reflecting plane of an ATR Si prism followed by potentiostatic electrodeposition of a 40-nm-thick Ni overlayer in a modified Watt's electrolyte. The Ni nanoparticle film thus obtained exhibited exceptionally enhanced IR absorption for the surface probe molecule CO while maintaining unipolar and normally directed bands. With the advantages of ATR-SEIRAS, free H2O molecules coadsorbed with CO at the Ni electrode were revealed, and their role in the electrooxidation of the CO adlayer at the Ni electrode is discussed. In addition, the conversion of bridge to linearly bonded CO at Ni electrode in a neutral solution was clearly identified upon electrooxidation of the CO adlayer. ATR-SEIRAS was also used to characterize the adsorption configuration of a pyridine adlayer at the Ni electrode. Both A1 and B1 modes of adsorbed pyridine were detected with comparably large intensities, essentially maintaining the spectral feature of pyridine molecules rather than that of "alpha-pyridyl species", which strongly suggests an "edge-tilted pyridine" configuration present at the Ni electrode, a configuration intermediate between the "end-on pyridine" and "edge-on alpha-pyridyl" adsorption modes reported in the literature.

Abstract
A surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) study of pyrazine adsorbed on roughened Rh electrodes was performed. Potential and concentration effects on the adsorption behavior of pyrazine were investigated. The SER spectra display four pairs of overlapping bands with the relative intensity of each pair being highly potential dependent, which has not been observed on other metals. The orientation change of the adsorbed pyrazine from the end-on to N/pi bonded edge-on configuration is proposed to account for this potential-dependent relative intensity change. This hypothesis is further supported by the SERS results obtained at different pyrazine concentrations. In conjunction with the orientation effect, the interaction of Rh with hydrogen and oxygen generated at different potentials has a great influence on the adsorption configuration of pyrazine.
