Abstract
There has been a steady progress in the development of doped conjugated polymers to remarkably improve their photo physical properties for their application as biomarkers. With a view to enhance the spectral, morphological, and photo physical properties of poly(o-phenylenediamine) (POPD), the present work reports the synthesis of poly(o-phenylenediamine) and doping of this polymer using luminol. The formation of luminol-doped POPD was confirmed by infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies and X-ray diffraction studies. The energy band gap values and oscillator strength of luminol in acidic, basic, and neutral media were computed by density functional theory calculations using the B3LYP/6-31G (d) basis set and were compared with experimental data. The luminol doped POPDs show significant in vitro anti-leishmanial activity. Live cell imaging also proved that these molecules bind with the organelle of Leishmania also. These luminol doped POPDs were found non-toxic at the used concentrations on THP-1 derived human macrophage cells through methyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. The results revealed that luminol doped POPDs were potentially non-toxic to human cells though exhibited immense potential to be used as a fluorescent marker to label Leishmania donovani for diagnostic and other studies.

Abstract
Pyocyanin is a virulence factor uniquely produced by the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The fast and selective detection of pyocyanin in clinical samples can reveal important information about the presence of this microorganism in patients. Electrochemical sensing of the redox-active pyocyanin is a route to directly quantify pyocyanin in real time and in situ in hospitals and clinics. The selective quantification of pyocyanin is, however, limited by other redox-active compounds existing in human fluids and by other metabolites produced by pathogenic bacteria. Here we present a direct selective method to detect pyocyanin in a complex electroactive environment using commercially available electrodes. It is shown that cyclic voltammetry measurements between −1.0 V to 1.0 V reveal a potential detection window of pyocyanin of 0.58–0.82 V that is unaffected by other redox-active interferents. The linear quantification of pyocyanin has an R2 value of 0.991 across the clinically relevant concentration range of 2–100 µM. The proposed method was tested on human saliva showing a standard deviation of 2.5% ± 1% (n = 5) from the known added pyocyanin concentration to the samples. This inexpensive procedure is suggested for clinical use in monitoring the presence and state of P. aeruginosa infection in patients.

Abstract
Hybridization of poly(luminol) (PLM) and poly(neutral red) (PNR) has been successfully performed and further enhanced by a conductive and steric hybrid nanotemplate using graphene oxide (GO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The morphology of the PLM-PNR-MWCNT-GO mycelium-like nanocomposite is studied by SEM and AFM and it is found to be electroactive, pH-dependent, and stable in the electrochemical system. It shows electrocatalytic activity towards NADH with a high current response and low overpotential. Using amperometry, it has been shown to have a high sensitivity of 288.9 μA mM(-1) cm(-2) to NADH (Eapp. = +0.1 V). Linearity is estimated in a concentration range of 1.33 × 10(-8) to 1.95 × 10(-4) M with a detection limit of 1.33 × 10(-8) M (S/N = 3). Particularly, it also shows another linear range of 2.08 × 10(-4) to 5.81 × 10(-4) M with a sensitivity of 151.3 μA mM(-1) cm(-2). The hybridization and activity of PLM and PNR can be effectively enhanced by MWCNTs and GO, resulting in an active hybrid nanocomposite for determination of NADH.

Abstract
In this study, a nano-structured copolymer of luminol/aniline (PLA) was deposited onto nano-TiO2-functionalised indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass by electrochemical polymerisation using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The resulting reagentless electrochemiluminescent (ECL) electrode (ECLode) can be used for flow injection analysis (FIA). The properties of the ECLode were characterised by CV, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The ECLode has high background ECL emission as well as excellent stability and reproducibility, and yielding sensitive response towards target analytes. The ECL emissions of the ECLode were 50 times higher than PLA/ITO, and 500 times higher than polyluminol (PL)/ITO. The ECLode showed sensitive responses to reactive oxygen species (ROSs), permitting its application for determination of antioxidants by quenching. Under optimised conditions, an absolute detection limit of 69.9 pg was obtained for resveratrol, comparable to the highest levels of sensitivity achieved by other methods. Thus, the gross antioxidant content of red wine was determined, with satisfactory recoveries between 87.6% and 108.3%. These results suggest a bright future for the use of the ECLode for single-channel FIA due to its high sensitivity, accuracy and reproducibility.

Abstract
A modified glassy carbon electrode was prepared by depositing a composite of polymer and mediator on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The mediator, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and the polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) were electrochemically deposited as a composite on the GCE by applying cyclic voltammetry (CV). This modified electrode is hereafter designated as GCE/PEDOT/FAD. FAD was found to significantly enhance the growth of PEDOT. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) analysis was performed to study the mass changes in the electrode during the electrodeposition of PEDOT, with and without the addition of FAD. The optimal cycle number for preparing the modified electrode was determined to be 9, and the corresponding surface coverage of FAD (Γ(FAD)) was ca. 5.11×10(-10)mol cm(-2). The amperometric detection of iodate was performed in a 100 mM buffer solution (pH 1.5). The GCE/PEDOT/FAD showed a sensitivity of 0.78 μA μM(-1) cm(-2), a linear range of 4-140 μM, and a limit of detection of 0.16 μM for iodate. The interference effects of 250-fold Na(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Zn(2+), Fe(2+), Cl(-), NO(3)(-), I(-), SO(4)(2-) and SO(3)(2-), with reference to the concentration of iodate were negligible. The long-term stability of GCE/PEDOT/FAD was also investigated. The GCE/PEDOT/FAD electrode retained 82% of its initial amperometric response to iodate after 7 days. The GCE/PEDOT/FAD was also applied to determine iodate in a commercial salt.

Abstract
NAD/NADH is a coenzyme found in all living cells, carrying electrons from one reaction to another. We report on characterizations of in situ regeneration of NADH via lipoamide dehydrogenase (LD)-catalyzed electron transfer reaction to regenerate NADH using UV-vis spectroelectrochemistry. The Michaelis-Menten constant (K(m)) and maximum velocity (V(max)) of NADH regeneration were measured as 0.80±0.15 mM and 1.91±0.09 μM s(-1) in a 1-mm thin-layer spectroelectrochemical cell using gold gauze as the working electrode at the applied potential -0.75 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The electrocatalytic reduction of the NAD system was further coupled with the enzymatic conversion of pyruvate to lactate by lactate dehydrogenase to examine the coenzymatic activity of the regenerated NADH. Although the reproducible electrocatalytic reduction of NAD into NADH is known to be difficult compared to the electrocatalytic oxidation of NADH, our spectroelectrochemical results indicate that the in situ regeneration of NADH via LD-catalyzed electron transfer reaction is fast and sustainable and can be potentially applied to many NAD/NADH-dependent enzyme systems.

Abstract
The multiwalled carbon nanotubes/N-butyl-N-methyl-pyrolydinium-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [C(4)mpyr][NTf(2)] ionic liquid (MWCNTs/IL) modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode has been utilized as a platform to immobilize electrogenerated NAD(+) oxidation products (Ox-P(NAD(+))). During potential cycling, the adenine moiety of NAD(+) molecule is oxidized and gives rise to generation of a redox active system that shows great electrocatalytic activity toward NADH oxidation. The cyclic voltammetric results indicated the ability of MWCNTs/IL/Ox-P(NAD(+)) modified GC electrode to catalyze the oxidation of NADH at a very low potential (0.05 V vs. Ag/AgCl) and subsequently, a substantial decrease in the overpotential by about 600 mV compared with the bare GC electrode. This modified electrode thus allowed highly sensitive amperometric detection of NADH with a very low limit of detection (2 × 10(-8) mol L(-1)), low applied potential (+0.05 V) at concentration range up to 4.2 × 10(-5) mol L(-1) and minimum of surface fouling. High ability of MWCNTs/IL/Ox-P(NAD(+)) to promote electron transfer between NADH and the electrode suggested a new promising biocompatible platform for development of dehydrogenase-based amperometric biosensors. With alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) as a model enzyme, ethanol sensing ability of the proposed system was examined. The amperometric response of the biosensor increased linearly with increasing ethanol concentration in two concentration ranges, 5 × 10(-6)-6 × 10(-5) and 6 × 10(-5)-9 × 10(-4) mol L(-1) with detection limit of 5 × 10(-7) mol L(-1) and rapid response of 10s. Furthermore, the interference effects of redox active species, such as ascorbic acid, uric acid, glucose and acetaminophen for the proposed biosensor are negligible. Finally, the ability of the proposed biosensor for detection of ethanol in real complex samples was successfully demonstrated.

Abstract
Performant reagentless electrochemiluminescent (ECL) (bio)sensors have been developed using polymeric luminol as the luminophore. The polyluminol film is obtained by cyclic voltammetry (CV) on a screen-printed electrode either in a commonly used H(2)SO(4) medium or under more original near-neutral buffered conditions. ECL responses obtained after performing polymerization either at acidic pH or at pH 6 have been compared. It appears that polyluminol formed in near-neutral medium gives the best responses for hydrogen peroxide detection. Polymerization at pH 6 by cyclic voltammetry gives a linear range extending from 8 x 10(-8) to 1.3 x 10(-4) M H(2)O(2) concentrations. Based on this performant sensor for hydrogen peroxide detection, an enzymatic biosensor has been developed by associating the polyluminol film with an H(2)O(2)-producing oxidase. Here, choline oxidase (ChOD) has been chosen as a model enzyme. To develop the biosensor, luminol has been polymerized at pH 6 by CV, and then an enzyme-entrapping matrix has been formed on the above modified working electrode. Different biological (chitosan, agarose, and alginate) and chemical (silica gels, photopolymers, or reticulated matrices) gels have been tested. Best performances have been obtained by associating a ChOD-immobilizing photopolymer with the polyluminol film. In this case, choline can be detected with a linear range extending from 8 x 10(-8) to 1.3 x 10(-4) M.
