Abstract
Background:
Captopril is the synthetic dipeptide used as an angiotensin converting enzyme
inhibitor. Captopril is used to treat hypertension as well as for the treatment of moderate heart failure.
Analytical instrumentation and methodology plays an important role in pharmaceutical analysis.
Methods:
This review presents some important applications of electrochemical modes used for the
analysis of captopril. So far captopril has been analyzed by using different bare and modified working
electrodes with a variety of modifiers from organic and inorganic materials to various types of nano
particles/materials.
Results:
This paper presents some of the methods which have been published in the last few years i.e.
from 2003 to 2016. This review highlights the role of the analytical instrumentation, particularly electrochemical
methods in assessing captopril using various working electrodes.
Conclusion:
A large number of studies on voltammetry noted by means of various bare and modified
electrodes. Among all of the published voltammetric methods, DPV, SWV, CV and miscellaneous
modes were trendy techniques used to analyze captopril in pharmaceutical formulations as well as biological
samples. Electrodes modified with nanomaterials are promising sensing tools as this showed
high sensitivity, good accuracy with precision as well as selectivity. In comparison to chromatographic
methods, the main advantages of electrochemical methods are its cheaper instrumentation, lower detection
limit and minimal or no sample preparation.

Abstract
A simple electrochemical biosensor was developed for the detection of the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase 6 gene (MT-ND6) and its enzymatic digestion by BamHI enzyme. This biosensor was fabricated by modification of a glassy carbon electrode with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs/GCE) and a probe oligonucleotide (ssDNA/AuNPs/GCE). The probe, which is a thiolated segment of the MT-ND6 gene, was deposited by self-assembling immobilization on AuNPs/GCE. Two indicators including methylene blue (MB) and neutral red (NR) were used as the electroactive indicators and the electrochemical response of the modified electrode was measured by differential pulse voltammetry. The proposed biosensor can detect the complementary sequences of the MT-ND6 gene. Also the modified electrode was used for the detection of an enzymatic digestion process by BamHI enzyme. The electrochemical biosensor can detect the MT-ND6 gene and its enzymatic digestion in polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified DNA extracted from human blood. Also the biosensor was used directly for detection of the MT-ND6 gene in all of the human genome.

Abstract
Polytaurine film was electrodeposited on gold (Au) electrode through cyclic voltammetry from taurine and phosphate buffer solution. The electrocatalytic effect of polytaurine modified Au (PT/Au) electrode was investigated for electro-oxidation of captopril (CAP). Electrocatalytical activity of PT/Au electrode was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). DPV was used to evaluate the analytical performance of CAP in the presence of phosphate buffer solution and good limit of detection was obtained by this sensor. The experimental conditions influencing the determination of CAP were optimized and under optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current was proportional to CAP concentration in the range of 0.06-0.2 μM, while the detection limit was 0.03 μM (S/N=3). The results revealed that PT promotes the rate of oxidation by increasing the peak current. Finally, the applicability of the method to direct assay of human serum is described. The proposed sensor was successfully applied to determine cadaverine in fish samples, yielding satisfactory results. The spiked recoveries were in the range of 96.0-105.0%.
