Abstract
A boronate-ester structure forming a pH-responsive polymer dot (Plu-PD) coated biosensor between carbonized-sp2 rich dopamine-alginate [PD(Alg)] and boronic acid-grafted Pluronic (BA-Pluronic) was developed for the electrochemical and fluorescence detection of cancer cells. The reduced fluorescence (FL) resulting from fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) mediated by π-π interactions within Plu-PD was successfully reinvigorated through the specific cleavage of the boronate-ester bond, triggered by the acidic conditions prevailing in the cancer microenvironment. The anomalous variations in extracellular pH levels observed in cancer (pH ∼6.8), as opposed to the normal cellular pH range of approximately 7.4, serve as robust indicators for discerning cancer cells from their healthy counterparts. Moreover, the Plu-PD coated surface demonstrated remarkable adaptability in modulating its surface structure, concurrently exhibiting tunable electroconductivity under reduced pH conditions, thereby imparting selective responsiveness to cancer cells. The pH-modulated conductivity change was validated by a reduction in resistance from 211 ± 9.7 kΩ at pH 7.4 to 73.9 ± 9.4 kΩ and 61.5 ± 11.5 kΩ at pH 6.8 and 6.0, respectively. The controllable electrochemical characteristics were corroborated through in vitro treatment of cancer cells (HeLa, B16F10, and SNU-C2A) via LED experiments and wireless output analysis. In contrast, identical treatments yielded a limited response in normal cell line (CHO-K1). Notably, the Plu-PD coated surface can be seamlessly integrated with a wireless system to facilitate real-time monitoring of the sensing performance in the presence of cancer and normal cells, enabling rapid and accurate cancer diagnosis using a smartphone.

Abstract
Boronic acids can reversibly bind diols, a molecular feature that is ubiquitous within saccharides, leading to their use in the design and implementation of sensors for numerous saccharide species. There is a growing understanding of the importance of saccharides in many biological processes and systems; while saccharide or carbohydrate sensing in medicine is most often associated with detection of glucose in diabetes patients, saccharides have proven to be relevant in a range of disease states. Herein the relevance of carbohydrate sensing for biomedical applications is explored, and this review seeks to outline how the complexity of saccharides presents a challenge for the development of selective sensors and describes efforts that have been made to understand the underpinning fluorescence and binding mechanisms of these systems, before outlining examples of how researchers have used this knowledge to develop ever more selective receptors.

Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to highlight a novel electrochemical assay for an extremely-selective detection of fructose thanks to the use of a supramolecular complex between β-cyclodextrins (β-CDs) and a chemically modified ferrocene with boronic acid named 4-Fc-PB/natural-β-CDs. Another kind of β-CDs, the 4-Fc-PB/3-phenylboronic-β-CDs, is proposed for the detection of glucose. The novel electrochemical probe is fully characterized by 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis, while the superior electrochemical performance is assessed in terms of sensitivity and detection limit. The novelty of the present work consists in the role of CDs that for the first time are employed in electrochemistry with a unique detection mechanism based on specific chemical interactions with the target molecule by the introduction of proper binding groups. A highly selective detection of fructose is obtained and it is believed that the proposed mechanism of detection represents a new way to electrochemically sense other molecules by varying the combination of specific groups of the supramolecular complex. The findings are of impactful importance since a quick, easy, cheap, and extremely selective detection of fructose is not yet available in the market, here achieved by using electrochemical methods which are a very growing field.

Abstract
Five ferrocene alkymethylimidazolium cations 1a⁻1d and 2 with different alkyl spacer lengths were reinvestigated using voltammetry and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The voltammetric responses of ligand 2 toward various anions are described in detail. An interesting and unprecedented finding from both experimental and theoretical studies is that coupled electron and intramolecular anion (F-) transfer may be present in these molecules. In addition, it was also observed that, in these studied molecules, the electrostatic attraction interaction toward F- would effectively vanish beyond 1 nm, which was previously reported only for cations.

Abstract
This review provides an overview of recent progress made in the development of electrochemical biosensors based on phenylboronic acid (PBA) and its derivatives. PBAs are known to selectively bind 1,2- and 1,3-diols to form negatively charged boronate esters in neutral aqueous media and have been used to construct electrochemical glucose sensors because of this selective binding. PBA-modified metal and carbon electrodes have been widely studied as voltammetric and potentiometric glucose sensors. In some cases, ferroceneboronic acid or ferrocene-modified phenylboronic acids are used as sugar-selective redox compounds. Another option for sensors using PBA-modified electrodes is potentiometric detection, in which the changes in surface potential of the electrodes are detected as an output signal. An ion-sensitive field effect transistor (FET) has been used as a signal transducer in potentiometric sensors. Glycoproteins, such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), avidin, and serum albumin can also be detected by PBA-modified electrodes because they contain hydrocarbon chains on the surface. HbA1c sensors are promising alternatives to enzyme-based glucose sensors for monitoring blood glucose levels over the preceding 2-3months. In addition, PBA-modified electrodes can be used to detect a variety of compounds including hydroxy acids and fluoride (F(-)) ions. PBA-based F(-) ion sensors may be useful if reagentless sensors can be developed.
