Polyoxotungstates-supported NiII/CoII-containing 3D inorganic-organic hybrids as supercapacitor electrodes toward boosting capacitor performance

A hybrid borotungstate-coated metal-organic framework with supercapacitance, photocatalytic dye degradation and H2O2 sensing properties

The compounding of polyoxometalates (POMs) with structurally well-defined and porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has become a hot research topic. Here, a core-shell type hybrid, {Ag₅BW₁₂O₄₀}@[Ag₃(μ-Hbtc)(μ-H₂btc)]_n (called {Ag₅BW₁₂O₄₀}@Ag-BTC-2, where BTC = 1,3,5-benzyl carboxylic acid), was successfully prepared via a simple grinding method. IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS analysis was used to confirm the structure. The specific capacitance is 179.1 F g^-1 when the current density is 1 A g^-1, using nickel foam as the collector, and the capacitance retention is 97.4% after 5000 cycles. The resulting aqueous-based symmetric supercapacitor has a power density of 496 W kg^-1 and an energy density of 12.4 W h kg^-1. In addition, the degradation rates using {Ag₅BW₁₂O₄₀}@Ag-BTC-2 toward methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), and methyl orange (MO) exceeded 90% in 140 min and remained essentially unchanged over five replicate experiments, showing high photocatalytic activity. Meanwhile, when {Ag₅BW₁₂O₄₀}@Ag-BTC-2 acts as a H₂O₂ biosensor, it has a low detection limit (0.19 μM), a wide linear range (0.4 μM-0.27 mM) and high anti-interference properties. This shows that the synthesis of POMOFs via a grinding method is an effective strategy to improve the performance.

Two high-nuclearity isopolyoxoniobates containing {Nb54 O151}-based helical nanotubes for the decomposition of chemical warfare agent simulants

Two inorganic-organic hybrid isopolyoxoniobates (1 and 2) based on new high-nuclearity {Nb₅₄O₁₅₁} clusters have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. In particular, the combination of the unique {Nb₅₄O₁₅₁} clusters with copper-amine complexes has led to rare helical nanotubes, which are further linked by alkali metal cations or copper-amine complexes into two 2D similar bamboo-raft-like layered networks (1 and 2), respectively. Compound 1 exhibits effective base-catalytic decomposition of chemical warfare agent simulants dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) and diethyl cyanophosphonate (DECP).

Surfactant-assisted fabrication and supercapacitor performances of a 12-phosphomolybdate-pillared metal–organic framework containing a helix and its SWNT nanocomposites

By employing a surfactant-assisted hydrothermal method, a new POMOF with a multi-fold helix was obtained, and NiPMo12/SWNTs exhibits excellent electrochemical performance and good stability as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

Cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries: A mini review

Although lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have many advantages, they cannot satisfy the demands of numerous large energy storage industries owing to their high cost, low security, and low resource richness. Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) with low cost, high safety, and high synergistic efficiency have attracted an increasing amount of attention and are considered a promising choice to replace LIBs. However, the existing cathode materials for ZIBs have many shortcomings, such as poor electron and zinc ion conductivity and complex energy storage mechanisms. Thus, it is crucial to identify a cathode material with a stable structure, substantial limit, and suitability for ZIBs. In this review, several typical cathode materials for ZIBs employed in recent years and their detailed energy storage mechanisms are summarized, and various methods to enhance the electrochemical properties of ZIBs are briefly introduced. Finally, the existing problems and expected development directions of ZIBs are discussed.
