Abstract
Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) hold great prospects for the treatment of antibiotic wastewater. N-doped biochar (NB) has received increasing attention as a catalyst for AOPs because of its green nature, abundant biomass resources, and low cost. However, NB catalysts are complicated to prepare and difficult to recover, limiting their practical application. In this study, an N-doped biochar geopolymer composite (NBGC) was synthesized via in situ doping, simultaneous carbonization, and activation (ISCA) of lignin and urea in the porous geopolymer flake, without additional activators. The ISCA process used a low-cost geopolymer flake that not only served as a carrier to immobilize NB and facilitate the recovery, but also applied its inherent strong alkalinity to activate NB. The composite catalyst obtained at 600 °C (NBGC-600) exhibited excellent activity in activating H2O2 to degrade tetracycline (∼100%, 50 mg/L). The EPR results indicated that NBGC-600 had a strong ability to activate and decompose H2O2 to •OH, which could be attributed to its rich persistent radicals, graphitized N and CO groups, as well as the high degree of graphitization of biochar. The degradation pathway and intermediates of tetracycline in the NBGC-600-H2O2 system were also discussed according to the HPLC-MS results. Moreover, NBGC-600 had excellent reusability and showed great potential for continuous treatment of tetracycline in water. This work paves a new way for the synthesis of cost-effective N-doped biochar composite catalysts for AOPs.

Abstract
A novel synergistic effect of TiO2 and ZnO incorporation in the PES-based thin-film nanocomposite nanofiltration membranes was developed for the treatment of common effluent treatment plant (CETP) textile wastewater. PES@TiO2 membranes were developed by phase inversion via the immersion precipitation method followed by the addition of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared by the rapid microwave-assisted hydrothermal process via interfacial polymerization. p-Phenylenediamine was used as a monomer for the IP process that was coated on the PES@TiO2 support layer. Various techniques have been applied to characterize the developed thin-film nanocomposite membranes such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and contact angle measurement to examine the presence of vibrational modes, surface morphology, the crystal structure of nanoparticles, and hydrophilicity of the membrane, respectively. Membrane properties include porosity, salt rejection, mean pore radius, pure water flux, and industrial effluent rejection efficiency that were studied. The thin-film nanocomposite membrane T5-PES@TiO2(2%)-ZnO(0.3%) was prepared with a combination of 17 wt% PES, 78 wt% DMF, 3 wt% PVP K30, 2% TiO2, 2.5 wt% PPD, 0.3 wt% ZnO, and 1.0 wt% TMC that exhibited high water permeability, porosity, higher industrial effluent rejection, and salt rejection efficiency compared to the neat PES membrane.

Abstract
Geopolymer is a porous inorganic material with a three-dimensional mesh structure, good mechanical properties, a simple preparation process (no sintering) and a low economic cost, and it is environmentally friendly. Geopolymer concrete has been widely used in the construction field, and many other studies have revealed that geopolymer will become one of the most promising inorganic materials with unique structure and properties. This paper provides a review of the development and current status of geopolymers and briefly explains the effects of material proportioning, experimental factors and activators on geopolymer performance. Because of the advantages of high specific surface area and high porosity, geopolymers could be used as adsorbent materials. This paper summarizes the research progresses of the adsorption of metal cations, anions, dyes, and gases by geopolymers, which emphasizes the geopolymer membranes in adsorption, and discusses the challenges and opportunities for the development of more efficient, sustainable and practical adsorption protocols.

Abstract
To meet the current challenges concerning the removal of dyes from wastewater, an environmentally friendly and efficient treatment technology is urgently needed. The recalcitrant, noxious, carcinogenic and mutagenic compound dyes are a threat to ecology and its removal from textile wastewater is challenge in the current world. Herein, biochar-mediated zirconium ferrite nanocomposites (BC-ZrFe2O5 NCs) were fabricated with wheat straw-derived biochar and applied for the adsorptive elimination of Tartrazine dye from textile wastewater. The optical and structural properties of synthesized BC-ZrFe2O5 NCs were characterized via UV/Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform Infra-red (FTIR), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Energy dispersive R-Ray (EDX) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The batch modes experiments were executed to explore sorption capacity of BC-ZrFe2O5 NCs at varying operative conditions, i.e., pH, temperature, contact time, initial dye concentrations and adsorbent dose. BC-ZrFe2O5 NCs exhibited the highest sorption efficiency among all adsorbents (wheat straw biomass (WSBM), wheat straw biochar (WSBC) and BC-ZrFe2O5 NCs), having an adsorption capacity of (mg g-1) 53.64 ± 0.23, 79.49 ± 0.21 and 89.22 ± 0.31, respectively, for Tartrazine dye at optimum conditions of environmental variables: pH 2, dose rate 0.05 g, temperature 303 K, time of contact 360 min and concentration 100 mg L-1. For the optimization of process variables, response surface methodology (RSM) was employed. In order to study the kinetics and the mechanism of the adsorption process, kinetic and equilibrium mathematical models were used, and results revealed 2nd order kinetics and a multilayer chemisorption mechanism due to complexation of hydroxyl, Fe and Zr with dyes functional groups. The nanocomposites were also recovered in five cycles without significant loss (89 to 63%) in adsorption efficacy. This research work provides insight into the fabrication of nanoadsorbents for the efficient adsorption of Tartrazine dye, which can also be employed for practical engineering applications on an industrial scale as efficient and cost effective materials.

Abstract
Nowadays polymer-based thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane technologies are showing key interest to improve the separation properties. TFN membranes are well known in diverse fields but developing highly improved TFN membranes for the removal of low concentration solutions is the main challenge for the researchers. Application of functional nanomaterials, incorporated in TFN membranes provides better performance as permeance and selectivity. The polymer membrane-based separation process plays an important role in the chemical industry for the isolation of products and recovery of different important types of reactants. Due to the reduction in investment, less operating costs and safety issues membrane methods are mainly used for the separation process. Membranes do good separation of dyes and ions, yet their separation efficiency is challenged when the impurity is in low concentration. Herewith, we have developed, UiO-66-NH2 incorporated TFN membranes through interfacial polymerization between piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) for separating malachite green dye and phosphate from water in their low concentration. A comparative study between thin-film composite (TFC) and TFN has been carried out to comprehend the benefit of loading nanoparticles. To provide mechanical strength to the polyamide layer ultra-porous polysulfone support was made through phase inversion. As a result, outstanding separation values of malachite green (MG) 91.90 ± 3% rejection with 13.32 ± 0.6 Lm-2h-1 flux and phosphate 78.36 ± 3% rejection with 22.22 ± 1.1 Lm-2h-1 flux by TFN membrane were obtained. The antifouling tendency of the membranes was examined by using bovine serum albumin (BSA)-mixed feed and deionized water, the study showed a good ~84% antifouling tendency of TFN membrane with a small ~14% irreversible fouling. Membrane's antibacterial test against E. coli. and S. aureus. also revealed that the TFN membrane possesses antibacterial activity as well. We believe that the present work is an approach to obtaining good results from the membranes under tricky conditions.

Abstract
In this work, a novel electrospun chitosan (CS)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibrous membrane was prepared to remove heavy metal ions and organic pollutants from water. The nanofiber morphologies were adjusted through the optimal electrospinning process parameters. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterizations indicated that a well-crosslinked CS/PVP/PVA nanofiber film was formed. Under the optimize conditions, the obtained CS/PVP/PVA nanofiber membranes exhibited porous and uniform nanofibrous structures with an average diameter of 160 nm and a pure water permeability of 4518.91 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1. In addition, the adsorption and separation performance of CS/PVP/PVA nanofiber membranes were evaluated with Cu(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Methylene Blue (MB), Malachite Green (MG) as target ions and dyes. The results showed that the retention rate of CS/PVP/PVA nanofiber membranes for Cu(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), MG and MB can reach 94.20%, 90.35%, 83.33%, 80.12%, 84.01% and 69.91%, respectively. The adsorption capacities of Cu(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), MG and MB were 34.79, 25.24, 18.07, 16.05, 17.86 and 13.27 mg g-1. The adsorption kinetics of heavy metal ions and dyes by the nanofiber membranes can be explained by the Langmuir isotherm model and represented by the pseudo-second-order kinetic mechanism that determined the spontaneous chemisorption process. This study provides a synthetic approach to membranes for the removal of organic and heavy metal micropollutants from water.

Abstract
Tetracycline (TC) in the water body poses a huge threat to the ecological environment. There is a great challenge to develop highly efficient, green, low-cost and reusable adsorbents for TC removal from saline water. Herein, metakaolin-based geopolymer microspheres (MM) modified by oleic acid were proposed for the enhanced adsorption of TC from saline water. Experimental and characterization results showed that the introduction of oleic acid into the MM effectively adjusted the specific surface area, pore volume and zeta potential of the MM, thus accelerating the adsorption rate and enhancing the TC adsorption capacity of the MM. The adsorption process fitted well to the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal models. The Langmuir adsorption capacity of TC by the optimal MM, namely MM3 (0.3%, oleic acid), reached 645.7 mg·g−1 at 298 K, which was higher than many reported adsorbents. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The MM3 had good adsorption performance of TC from saline water and regeneration performance. Moreover, the breakthrough curves of the MM3 in a column system were correlative with the Thomas and Yoon–Nelson models. The adsorption mechanisms of TC by the MM3 involved Van der Waals forces, electrostatic interactions, hydrogen–bonding interactions, and ion exchange.

Abstract
One of the most important environmental and health issues today is the elimination of the dye pollution from the contaminated water ecosystem. The use of geopolymers to eliminate such contaminants has recently emerged as a promising alternative. In this study, metakaolin based geopolymer (MKBG) was synthesized to be a promising adsorbent for Basic Blue 7 (BB7). To optimize the input parameters (solution pH, MKBG dose, mixing time, temperature, mixing speed, column diameter, and flow rate) towards BB7 removal by MKBG, a Box-Behnken design (BBD) was employed to develop the response model, followed by numerical optimization. The quadratic models correlating the adsorption variables to BB7 adsorption yield as responses were developed for batch and dynamic flow systems. The pseudo-second-order model accurately predicted the BB7 adsorption kinetics on MKBG. Decolorization yields of BB7 in batch and continuous systems reached 96 % and 56 %, respectively. The Langmuir model accurately described equilibrium data, thereby justifying monolayer and homogeneous adsorption. The MKBG demonstrated significant reusability up to 20 dynamic flow adsorption cycles. IR, SEM, and zeta potential measurements were used to describe the sorbent structure, and the mechanism of MKBG-BB7 interaction was assessed. Overall, MKBG offers a good application potential for the treatment of basic dye contaminated waters.
