Abstract
A simple label-free Cd2+ fluorescent aptasensor was proposed using aptamer as a recognition element and thioflavine T (ThT) as a signal reporter. The presence of Cd(II) can induce the conformational switching of the aptamer probe, accompanied by a change in fluorescence intensity. According to the difference in fluorescence signals before and after the addition of Cd2+, a fluorescence sensor for Cd2+ assay was established. Under the better experimental conditions, the sensor displayed a good linear range from 2 to 50 nM and the excellent detection limit was 0.8 nM. The method demonstrated high sensitivity and good selectivity. The aptasensor could detect Cd2+ in simulated water samples with satisfactory results. The proposed method had obvious advantages that was without chemical modification of fluorescent groups and complicated target preconcentration. It provided a new analytical platform for the detection of heavy metal ion pollution in environmental and biomedical fields.

Abstract
Today, drug dealers and sellers add lead compounds to these substances to get more profit. As a result, drug users are heavily exposed to lead, and lead poisoning is clearly seen in most of them. Therefore, it is especially important to check the blood lead levels in these people. In this research, an efficient and eco-friendly pretreatment method was established by deep eutectic solvent for dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DES - DLLME) followed by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) analysis. The selected hydrophilic deep eutectic solvent consists of l-menthol and (1S)-( +)-camphor-10-sulfonic acid (CSA) at a 5:1 molar ratio as a green solvent instead of traditional toxic organic solvents. Under the optimal extraction conditions, the introduced method exhibited good linearity with coefficient of determination (r2) 0.9975 and an acceptable linear range of 0.3-80 µg L-1. Accordingly, the detection limit was 0.1 µg L-1 (S/N = 3) for lead ions, and the high enrichment factor (240) was obtained. The proposed method was successfully applied to analysis lead ions in real blood samples, which is a promising technique for biological samples. The case samples were classified and analyzed based on age, duration of consumption, and type of substance. The results showed that there was no significant difference between blood lead levels in different age groups and different duration of use, while blood lead levels were higher in opium residue (shireh) users than in opium users.

Abstract
A new oxime compound, 4-(benzimidazolisonitrosoacetyl)biphenyl (BIBP) was synthesized and used as a complexing agent in this study to preconcentrate trace amounts of Pb(II) ions with vortex-assisted restricted access-based supramolecular solvent microextraction (RA/SUPRAS-LPME) method. The new complexing agent was characterized by a combination of elemental analyses, Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H- NMR), Carbon-13 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (13C NMR) and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and techniques. Extraction of the complex which was formed at pH 8.0 was done by using a supramolecular solvent phase of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and 1-decanol. A microsampling flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used to measure the lead ion concentrations of the extract. The method optimized and the optimum experimental conditions were found as; pH = 8, amount of the ligand 2,25 mg, supramolecular solvent volume 50 μL, sample volume 20 mL and vortex time 3 min. The limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ) were calculated as 0.69 μg L-1 and 2.29 μg L-1, respectively. Linear range was found between 15.1 μg L-1 and 606 μg L-1. The developed method was applied to Pb(II) determination in real samples after evaluating the accuracy by using the TMDA-53.3 fortified environmental water sample as certified reference material.

Abstract
In this work, a novel signal amplification biosensor was utilized to detect Cd2+ based on asymmetric PCR. In the presence of Cd2+, it can bind with Cd2+-aptamer C1 which caused the complementary strand C2 to be released from double-stranded DNA C1-C2. Because the single-stranded C1 cannot be hydrolyzed by Exo III, it can be used as a template to take part in asymmetric PCR reaction. In the absence of Cd2+, the C1-C2 was digested by Exo III and no PCR template was left. During the experiment, an interesting phenomenon was found that the asymmetric PCR can obtain higher level of fluorescent signal than that of symmetric PCR. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of using asymmetric PCR to detect Cd2+. Through the asymmetric PCR amplification strategy, this biosensor had a low detection limit (19.93 nM) and a wide linear range (0-500 nM). Meanwhile, this biosensor showed a satisfactory selectivity and recovery rate.

Abstract
Ligands plays an important role in the extraction procedures for the determination of cadmium in rice samples by using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). In the present study, comparative evaluation of 10 commercially available ligands for formation of Cd(II)-ligand complex and determination of cadmium in rice samples by ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (UADLLME) combined with FAAS was developed. Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) provided a high distribution coefficient as well as a good absorbance signal, therefore DDTC was used as a ligand in UADLLME. A low density and less toxic solvent, 1-heptanol, was used as the extraction solvent and ethanol was used as the disperser solvent. In addition, the experimental conditions of UADLLME were optimized in standard solution first and then applied in rice, such as the type and volume of extractant and dispersant, pH, extraction time, and temperature. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the detection limit (3σ) was 0.69 μg/L for Cd(II). The proposed method was applied for the determination of Cd(II) in three different rice samples (polished rice, brown rice, and glutinous rice), the recovery test was carried out, and the results ranged between 96.7 to 113.6%. The proposed method has the advantages of simplicity, low cost, and accurate and was successfully applied to analyze Cd(II) in rice.

Abstract
The human exposure to toxic chemicals and heavy metals is one of the main predisposing factors contributing to male infertility. Acute exposure to cadmium chloride results in testicular damage and infertility. The purpose of the present study was to investigate and compare the curative effect of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), lycopene, L-carnitine (LC), and zinc sulfate against the cadmium-induced infertility in male Wistar rats. Cadmium chloride (0.4 mg/kg/day) was orally administered to rats for three consecutive days. Then, oral administration of different treatments (i.e., LC 100 mg/kg, CoQ10 20 mg/kg, lycopene 4 mg/kg, zinc sulfate 6 mg/kg, and a combination LC-CoQ10 at 500/50 mg/kg) was carried out for 30 days. The impact of different treatments on semen parameters, such as sperm count and motility, testicular antioxidants, and serum testosterone, was determined. Furthermore, the morphology of epididymis sperms and histopathology of rat testes were also assessed. Cadmium exposure decreased the sperm count, progressive sperm motility, testosterone, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase and reduced glutathione (GSH). It also caused banana sperm tail, bent sperm head, vacuolization of seminiferous tubules, and oligospermia in rat testes. All treatments with nutraceuticals improved sperm count, sperm morphology, serum testosterone, vacuolization of seminiferous tubules, and oligospermia in diseased rats. Treatment with lycopene, LC, and LC-CoQ10 improved progressive sperm motility and other parameters and increased SOD, GSH, and CAT in the rat testes. CoQ10 also increased SOD activity in rat testes' tissue homogenates. It is concluded from the current study that all nutraceuticals partially improved reproductive toxicity of cadmium. The administration of lycopene and a high-dose combination of LC-CoQ10 were more efficacious in treating cadmium-induced infertility than other treatments. Treatment of cadmium-exposed rats with lycopene, LC, CoQ10, and LC-CoQ10 improved sperm count and motility through reduction of testicular oxidative stress and improving serum testosterone.

Abstract
A colorimetric biosensor assay has been developed for Cd2+ and Hg2+ detection based on Cd2+-dependent DNAzyme cleavage and Hg2+-binding-induced conformational switching of the G-quadruplex fragment. Two types of multifunctional magnetic beads (Cd-MBs and Hg-MBs) were synthesized by immobilizing two functionalized DNA sequences on magnetic beads via avidin-biotin chemistry. For Cd2+ detection, Cd-MBs are used as recognition probes, which are modified with a single phosphorothioate ribonucleobase (rA) substrate (PS substrate) and a Cd2+-specific DNAzyme (Cdzyme). In the presence of Cd2+, the PS substrate is cleaved by Cdzyme, and single-stranded DNA is released as the signal transduction sequence. After molecular assembly with the other two oligonucleotides, duplex DNA is produced, and it can be recognized and cleaved by FokI endonuclease. Thus, a signal output component consisting of a G-quadruplex fragment is released, which catalyzes the oxidation of ABTS with the addition of hemin and H2O2, inducing a remarkably amplified colorimetric signal. To rule out false-positive results and reduce interference signals, Hg-MBs modified with poly-T fragments were used as Hg2+ accumulation probes during the course of Cd2+ detection. On the other hand, Hg-MBs can perform their second function in Hg2+ detection by changing the catalytic activity of the G-quadruplex/hemin DNAzyme. In the presence of Hg2+, the G-quadruplex structure in Hg-MBs is disrupted upon Hg2+ binding. In the absence of Hg2+, an intensified color change can be observed by the naked eye for the formation of intact G-quadruplex/hemin DNAzymes. The biosensor assay exhibits excellent selectivity and high sensitivity. The detection limits for Cd2+ and Hg2+ are 1.9 nM and 19.5 nM, respectively. Moreover, the constructed sensors were used to detect environmental water samples, and the results indicate that the detection system is reliable and could be further used in environmental monitoring. The design strategy reported in this study could broadly extend the application of metal ion-specific DNAzyme-based biosensors.

Abstract
An efficient sorbent based on 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanol immobilized on multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs@DMP) was developed for separation/speciation of organic and inorganic lead (alkyl-Pb, Pb2+) in human blood, urine, and water samples by dispersive ionic liquid-suspension-micro-solid phase extraction (DIL-S-μ-SPE). By procedure, the MWCNTs@DMP as solid phase, acetone, and ionic liquid (IL, [HMIM][PF6]) were mixed and injected to 10 mL of the liquid phase at pH = 6.5. After shaking, the Pb(II) was extracted in MWCNTs@DMP and settled down in a conical tube with IL by centrifuging (Pb2+→: SH-SiO2@CNTs). The lead (Pb2+) was back-extracted from sorbent/IL in acidic pH and measured by atom trap atomic absorption spectrometry (AT-AAS). In addition, the organic lead (R-Pb, alkyl lead) converted to Pb(II) and total lead (T-Pb) was determined in the same conditions by UV radiation in 95 °C. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range (9.5-480 μg L-1), LOD (3.2 μg L-1), and enrichment factor (10.4) were obtained (RSD < 5%). The adsorption capacity of the MWCNTs@DMP and MWCNTs was achieved as 191.6 mg g-1 and 25.8 mg g-1, respectively. The method was validated by standard reference materials (SRM 1643d, SRM 955, and SRM 2668), ET-AAS, and ICP-MS analysis in real samples. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Sample pre-treatment plays an important role in sample analysis, which directly affects the accuracy and reliability of the results. In this work we studied the influence of three common sample pre-treatment methods (direct injection, microwave digestion and wet digestion) on the determination of lead (Pb) content of Chinese health-care wines by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Six different brands of Chinese health wines were selected for the research. After each Chinese health-care wine was digested by three digestion methods, GFAAS was used to detect the Pb content of the samples. For the selected six different health-care wines, the results showed that the Pb content obtained by GFAAS with different pre-treatment methods were different. Microwave digestion had the best recovery, and was proposed to be applied to the pre-treatment of many kinds of health-care wines, while the direct injection method might be suitable only for health-care wine with lesser amounts of ingredients such as sugar. In the practical work, due to the complexity of the base composition of Chinese health-care wines, currently there is no relevant standard analysis method for the pre-treatment of Chinese health wines. According to the accuracies of the three chosen common pre-treatment methods, it was proposed that microwave digestion might be more suitable as a standard digestion method for the determination of Pb in Chinese health-care wines. This work could provide theoretical support for the further establishment of a standard analytical method for the determination of lead and other (heavy) metal elements in Chinese health wines by GFAAS and other methods.

Abstract
Herein, we developed a novel homogeneous liquid–liquid microextraction based on liquid nitrogen-induced phase separation (HLLME-LNPS) for the extraction and determination of lead (Pb) in Pb-adulterated opium and refined opium by GFAAS analysis. In this procedure, first, 400 μl of acetonitrile (extractant) containing 7.0 μl of diethyl dithiophosphoric acid (DDTP) is injected into a sample solution and a homogeneous solution is formed. Subsequently, the homogeneous mixture is cooled using liquid nitrogen for 16 seconds. By this process, due to the difference in the freezing points of the organic and aqueous phases, the homogeneous state is broken and the Pb-DDTP species are extracted into the liquid organic phase collected on top of the frozen aqueous phase. The introduced method exhibited a good linearity with a coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.9988 and an acceptable linear range of 0.6–100 μg l−1. Accordingly, the detection limit was 0.2 μg l−1 (S/N = 3) for Pb ions, and a high enrichment factor was obtained. The proposed method was successfully utilized to determine trace levels of Pb in opium samples. The results of the sample analysis showed that 65% of the opium samples and 85% of the refined opium samples had much higher than expected levels of contaminating Pb, and this contamination poses a serious threat to drug users. Abstract
BACKGROUND In the present work, a simple and rapid method was proposed for the preconcentration of cadmium using ultrasound-assisted temperature-controlled ionic liquid microextraction (TC-IL-LPME). The dispersion of the ionic liquid (1-Hmim[PF6 ]) in the aqueous phase was performed by heating it in an ultrasonic bath, followed by cooling in an ice bath. After centrifugation, the enriched phase was dissolved in 45% (w/w) nitric acid solution to reduce viscosity, and the cadmium content was measured employing electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ET-AAS). The 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol reagent (Br-PADAP) was used as a complexing agent. RESULTS Under optimized conditions, the method had a detection limit of 2.0 ng L-1 and an enrichment factor of 24. The accuracy of the method was evaluated through the analysis of the certified reference material of brown bread (BCR-191). The method was applied to the determination of cadmium in samples of bread and biscuit. The limit of detection of the solid samples was 0.10 μg kg-1 . The recovery of cadmium in the samples varied between 93% and 107%. CONCLUSION The proposed method is presented as a simple, cheap, ecological and a sensitive alternative for the determination of cadmium in bread and biscuit samples. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.
