Abstract
The simultaneous presence of heavy metals and surfactants in runoff induces complexation and ecological harm during migration. However, interactions between these pollutants are often overlooked in past studies. Thus, investigating heavy metal-surfactant complexes in runoff is imperative. In this work, Cu (II) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were selected to investigate the interaction between heavy metals and surfactants due to the higher detected frequency in runoff. Through 1H NMR and FTIR observation of hydrogen atom nuclear displacement and functional group displacement of SDS, the change of SDS and Cu (II) complexation was obtained, and then the complexation form of Cu (II) and SDS was verified. The results showed that solution pH values and ionic strength had significant effects on the complexation of Cu (II). When the pH values increase from 3.0 to 6.0, the complexation efficiency of SDS with Cu (II) increased by 12.12% at low concentration of SDS, which may be attributed to the excessive protonation in the aqueous solution at acidic condition. The increase of ionic strength would inhibit the complexation reaction efficiency by 19.57% and finally reached the platform with concentration of NaNO3 was 0.10 mmol/L, which was mainly due to the competitive relationship between Na (I) and Cu (II). As a general filtering material in stormwater treatment measures, natural zeolite could affect the interaction between SDS and Cu (II) greatly. After the addition of SDS, the content of free Cu (II) in the zeolite-SDS-Cu (II) three-phase mixed system was significantly reduced, indicating that SDS had a positive effect on the removal of Cu (II) from runoff. This study is of great significance for investigating the migration and transformation mechanism of SDS and Cu (II) in the future and studying the control technology of storm runoff pollution.

Abstract
Developing better separation technologies for rare earth metals, an important aspect of a sustainable materials economy, is challenging due to their chemical similarities. Identifying molecular-scale interactions that amplify the subtle differences between the rare earths can be useful in developing new separation technologies. Here, we describe the ion-dependent monolayer to inverted bilayer transformation of extractant molecules at the air/aqueous interface. The inverted bilayers form with Lu3+ ions but not with Nd3+. By introducing Lu3+ ions to preformed monolayers, we extract kinetic parameters corresponding to the monolayer to inverted bilayer conversion. Temperature-dependent studies show Arrhenius behavior with an energy barrier of 40 kcal/mol. The kinetics of monolayer to inverted bilayer conversion is also affected by the character of the background anion, although anions are expected to be repelled from the interface. Our results show the outsized importance of ion-specific effects on interfacial structure and kinetics, pointing to their role in chemical separation methods.

Abstract
In contrast to the classical method where a single molecule is designed to extract metal cations under specific conditions, dynamic covalent chemistry provides an approach based on the implementation of an adaptive dynamic covalent library for inducing the generation of the extractant species. This approach has been applied to the liquid-liquid extraction of copper(ii) nitrate based on a dynamic library of acylhydrazones constituents that self-build and distribute through the interface of a biphasic system. The addition of copper(ii) cations to this library triggers a modification of its composition and the up-regulation of the ligand molecules driven by coordination to the metal cations. Among these, one species has proven to be sufficiently lipophilic to play the role of carrier agent and its formation by component exchange enables the partial extraction of the copper(ii). The study of different pathways to generate the dynamic covalent library demonstrates the complete reversibility and the adaptability of the system. The detailed analytical investigation of the system provides a means to assess the mechanism of the dynamic extraction process.

Abstract
Direct substitution and elimination reactions of the fluorine atoms of difluoromethylene CF2α groups of nonspaced perfluoroalkyl chains, CF3 groups are very difficult to achieve. But, they become feasible with fluoro-alkenes, alkynes, imines or carbonyl derivatives, for which vinylic substitution and related carbanion-mediated pathways are available. In this review, we classify the major and unique fluorine substitution/elimination and rearrangement reactions and discuss their contribution to the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.

Abstract
With the need for a precise description of the long-range electronic effects of a perfloroalkyl chain (F-ponytail) grafted onto metal chelators, we studied in detail the effect of a spacer inserted between the polar complexing head and the F-ponytail, in relation to the metal coordination ability of the resulting molecules. The prepared molecules were then applied for the extraction of various metals from an aqueous phase into an organic phase, and the optimum spacer length could be estimated to be between three and four methylene units, according to the extraction conditions. The study also revealed the difficulty of modeling and anticipating the tiny energy differences involved in the extraction process and the importance in peculiar cases to go beyond only these studied inductive effects to understand better the factors that govern the stabilization of a metallic cation in a complex fluorous phase.
