Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to describe the prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA)-producing MβL among Brazilian isolates and the frequency of blaSPM-1 in MβL-PA-producing isolates. From January 2009 to August 2023, we carried out an investigation on this subject in the internet databases SciELO, PubMed, Science Direct, and LILACS. A total of 20 papers that met the eligibility requirements were chosen by comprehensive meta-analysis software v2.2 for data retrieval and analysis by one meta-analysis using a fixed-effects model for the two investigations. The prevalence of MβL-producing P. aeruginosa was 35.8% or 0.358 (95% CI = 0.324-0.393). The studies' differences were significantly different from one another (x2 = 243.15; p < 0.001; I2 = 92.18%), so they were divided into subgroups based on Brazilian regions. There was indication of asymmetry in the meta-analyses' publishing bias funnel plot; so, a meta-regression was conducted by the study's publication year. According to the findings of Begg's test, no discernible publishing bias was found. blaSPM-1 prevalence was estimated at 66.9% or 0.669 in MβL-PA isolates (95% CI = 0.593-0.738). The analysis of this one showed an average heterogeneity (x2 = 90.93; p < 0.001; I2 = 80.20%). According to the results of Begg's test and a funnel plot, no discernible publishing bias was found. The research showed that MβL-P. aeruginosa and SPM-1 isolates were relatively common among individuals in Brazil. P. aeruginosa and other opportunistic bacteria are spreading quickly and causing severe infections, so efforts are needed to pinpoint risk factors, reservoirs, transmission pathways, and the origin of infection.

Abstract
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative bacillus associated with waterborne diseases. The objective of this study was to determine whether particular P. aeruginosa sequence types (STs) were associated with drinking water contamination in Brazil. This was achieved by searching the Pseudomonas PubMLST database, which contains the records for 8358 strains collected between 1938 and 2023. The majority (97.2%) had the complete 7-loci multilocus sequence typing profile and were assigned to 3486 STs. After eBURST (an algorithm used to infer patterns of evolutionary descent among clusters), 1219 groups with single-locus variant and 575 groups with double-locus variant were formed. Brazil was the South American country with the most isolates (n = 219, 58.24%), and the Simpson's index was 0.9392. Of the 219 Brazilian isolates, eight were isolated in water and identified as STs 252, 1417, 1605, 2502, 2620, 3078, and 3312. ST252, 1417, and 3078 have already been isolated from clinical cases worldwide. Furthermore, ST1605 and 2620, after the eBURST, they were grouped in the same clonal complex as STs involved in human infections. In conclusion, P. aeruginosa STs involved in human infections were found in bottled drinking water commercialized in Brazil, revealing that these types of drinking waters can be a vehicle of contamination.

Abstract
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic Gram-negative pathogen with an increase in the frequency of infections caused by multidrug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) strains, limiting the available therapeutic options. The most troublesome resistance is the acquisition and production of carbapenemases such as Verona integron-encoded metallo-β-lactamases (VIM), the most frequent and widespread, and the Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPC), which has continuously spread in the last decade. Its dissemination is linked to their location on mobile genetic elements (MGEs). In Colombia, VIM and KPC have been increasing in its frequency showing major successful dissemination. In this article, we molecularly characterized and analyzed the genetic context of bla VIM and bla KPC in carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa (CRPA) isolates from infected and colonized patients in two tertiary-care hospitals, one in Medellín and the other in a municipality close to Medellín, both areas with high carbapenemase endemicity in Colombia (2013-2015). Using whole-genome sequencing (WGS), we identified a remarkable variety of genetic backgrounds in these MDR P. aeruginosa isolates carrying bla KPC- 2 and bla VIM- 2. There were a diversity of class 1 integron and variations in the gene cassettes associated to bla VIM- 2, as well as a possible event of spread of bla KPC- 2 mediated by a plasmid that contained part of Tn4401b in one infection case. The dissemination of bla VIM- 2 and bla KPC- 2 in P. aeruginosa in this area in Colombia has been strongly influenced by successful international clones, carrying these genes and additional determinants of resistance on MGEs, accompanied by gene rearrangement under an antimicrobial selection pressure. These findings emphasize the need to implement control strategies based on rational antibiotic use.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Carbapenemases are β-lactamases able to hydrolyze a wide range of β-lactam antibiotics, including carbapenems. Carbapenemase production in Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter spp., with and without the co-expression of other β-lactamases is a serious public health threat. Carbapenemases belong to three main classes according to the Ambler classification: class A, class B, and class D. AREAS COVERED Carbapenemase-bearing pathogens are endemic in Latin America. In this review, we update the status of carbapenemases in Latin America and the Caribbean. EXPERT OPINION Understanding the current epidemiology of carbapenemases in Latin America and the Caribbean is of critical importance to improve infection control policies limiting the dissemination of multi-drug-resistant pathogens and in implementing appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
