Abstract
Herein, we report the application of amine-surface-functionalized halloysite nanotubes (HAs) as active materials for the quantitative detection of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). The findings indicated that HA could selectively capture TNT via a strong reaction between the amine groups on its surface and the TNT molecules. Plate electrodes were fabricated from HA to evaluate its TNT-sensing capacity by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Upon binding with TNT, the proton conductivity on the HA plate electrodes increased linearly with the TNT concentration from 1.0 × 10−11 M to 1.0 × 10−4 M. The HA plate electrodes exhibited good sensitivity with a detection limit of 1.05 × 10−12 M. Subsequently, the cycling measurements of the TNT binding/removal were performed on the HA plate electrode, and the material exhibited high stability, good regenerative ability, and good reversibility without a significant decrease in efficiency. The present work highlights the significant application potential of HAs for the electrochemical detection of TNT. Amine-surface-functionalized halloysite nanotubes are used for electrochemical sensing TNT.![]()

Abstract
Structure-property relationship for fluorophores with favorable nonlinear optical (NLO) properties are promising topics in organic chemistry and material science. Herein, a series of terthiophene-o-carborane dyads and triads covalently linked with different end-capping styles were readily synthesized and comprehensively investigated. Quantitative values of the crystal and packing structures, photophysical parameters including aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and two-photon absorption (2PA) were provided. Significant impact of carborane unit for introducing the AIE characteristic has been investigated in contrast to the parent oligothiophene. All the obtained fluorophores exhibit maximum absorption around 370 nm in THF and emit bright reddish photoluminscence with absolute fluorescence quantum yields above 16% in solid states. Intramolecular charge communication between oligothiophene and carborane plays important roles in the related NLO properties. These results are supported well by the time-dependent DFT theoretical calculations. Effective 2PA cross sections (δ2PA = 95-355 GM@650 nm) and transition dipole moments of the derivatives are variable for different end-capping styles. Their potential applications as optical limiting materials based on the 2PA mechanism in solutions and doped PDMS films were further evaluated. Taken together, this work provides an understanding of their structure-property relationship, and flexible PDMS films as outstanding candidates for practical applications in optical limiting.

Abstract
Colorimetric chemosensors have attracted tremendous interest for sensing hazardous substances in an uncomplicated and economical manner. Herein, a series of push-pull dicyanovinyl-substituted oligothiophene derivatives were designed, and the impacts of different end-cappers on their photophysical properties were comprehensively investigated. Interestingly, combined with a zinc porphyrin derivative (Zn-TPP), one dicyanovinyl-substituted oligothiophene derivative (NA-3T-CN) can be further developed into colorimetric and fluorescent sensor array for dual-mode detection of aliphatic amines and hydrazine. The obtained sensors showed satisfactory results between optical response and analyte's concentration both in selective single-sensor type and in enhanced multisensory mode. Based on the fluorescence change of the NA-3T-CN system, the detection limit for N2H4 was calculated to be around 1.22 × 10-5 mol/L in THF. The stained TLC-supported sensor array offers obvious optical changes for down to 0.5 wt % hydrazine solution for naked-eye sensing. An aromatic amine like aniline has no obvious effect on the dicyanovinyl-substituted oligothiophene derivatives. We also found that a zinc porphyrin derivative has an obvious colorimetric response to the presence of hydrazine, ethanolamine, and aniline. Furthermore, smartphone-enabled readout system and data treatment based on RGB changes of the sensor array were performed, and the discrimination capability among hydrazine, aliphatic amines, and aromatic amine was satisfactory. In this regard, related push-pull oligothiophene derivatives not only can be regarded as models for a fundamental understanding of the relationship between molecular structure and photophysical properties but also present potential applications in the field of real-time and visual detection of hazardous chemicals.

Abstract
A reliable and sensitive detection of biogenic amines (BAs) is essential to ensure food safety and maintain public health. In this study, two naphthyl end-capped terthiophene derivatives, namely, 5-(naphthalen-1-yl)-2,2':5',2''-terthiophene (NA-3T) and 5,5''-di(naphthalen-1-yl)-2,2':5',2''-terthiophene (NA-3T-NA), were employed to develop chemiresistive sensors for detecting gaseous BAs. In contrast to NA-3T, the NA-3T-NA-based sensor showed a higher sensitivity for trimethylamine (TMA) with an experimental detection limit lower than 22 ppm, and for aromatic BAs, including dopamine, histamine, tryptamine, and tyramine. Additionally, the recovery time for TMA was found to be shorter than 23 s. In addition, both sensors were successfully used for an in situ evaluation of meat freshness by monitoring the concentration of relevant volatile BAs. The difference in the sensing performances of the two chemiresistive sensors was tentatively ascribed to different packing structures of the derivatives and the adlayer structures of the films developed with the compounds.

Abstract
A novel fluorescence material H2Sr2(bqdc)3(phen)2 (1) for trace recognition of organic pollutant and toxic metal ions is designed and prepared by two weak fluorescent ligands and Sr2+. The latter was selected although it played no role in the modulation process of luminescence and despite low-cost, alkaline earth, metal–organic coordination polymers lacking competitive functionality. The strong fluorescence of the fluorescence material was based on the propeller configuration of the metal–organic coordination polymer, which was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction showing that the N active sites inside the crystal channels can interact with external guests. Convenient fluorescence detection of 3-AT can be realized using an ultraviolet lamp and test strip and the determination of Cd2+ showed good reusability with a detection limit of 1 × 10−9 mol L−1, which is lower than the standard stipulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Detailed experiments results revealed that the material was a promising candidate for specifically recognizing amitrole and Cd2+ because of its selective fluorescence quenching and sensitive detection in water. Complexes with strong fluorescence can conveniently detect the trace organic pollutant amitrole and repeatedly recognize toxic Cd2+with a low detection limit.![]()

Abstract
Two novel multi-functional magnetic resins named GMA30-1 and GMA30-2 were fabricated and investigated for the removal of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid (NTS) and 2-nitrotoluene (o-MNT). Strong base resin (GMA30-1) and weak base resin (GMA30-2) possess large surface area of 718m(2)/g and 559m(2)/g, and anion exchange capacity of 1.49mmol/g and 1.81mmol/g, respectively. The adsorption isotherms of o-MNT onto two resins were both well described by Langmuir equation. While the adsorption isotherms of NTS could be separated into two segments at a certain initial concentration and each segment followed different trends. At lower concentrations, the adsorption of NTS was driven by Van der Waal's force, exhibiting an exothermic process. With the increase of concentrations, the electrostatic force dominated and the enthalpy change (ΔH) turned to positive, indicating an endothermic process. In binary systems, the decrease in the uptake of NTS was slighter than that of o-MNT because of the additional anion exchange interaction. The adsorption capacity of NTS decreased as pH increased while the adsorption of o-MNT was not significantly affected by pH. Chloride ions reduced the adsorption of NTS by competitive effect. The desorption efficiency of NTS and o-MNT was close to 100% for 10 cycles.
