Abstract
The fast and efficient removal of 137Cs+ ions from water is of great significance for the further treatment and disposal of highly active nuclear waste. Hitherto, although many layered metal sulfides have been proven to be very effective in capturing aqueous cesium, three-dimensional (3D) microporous examples have rarely been explored, especially compounds that are systematically used to study cesium ion exchange behaviors. In this paper, we present detailed Cs+ ion exchange properties of a 3D, microporous, zeolitic-like sulfide, namely K@GaSnS-1, in different conditions. Isotherm studies indicate that K@GaSnS-1 has a high cesium saturation capacity of 249.3 mg/g. In addition, it exhibits rapid sorption kinetics, with an equilibrium time of only 2 min. Further studies show that K@GaSnS-1 also displays a strong preference and good selectivity for cesium, with the highest distribution coefficient Kd value up to 3.53 × 104 mL/g. Also noteworthy is that the excellent cesium ion exchange properties are well-maintained despite acidic, basic, and competitive multiple-component environments. More importantly, the Cs+-exchanged products can be easily eluted and regenerated by a low-cost and eco-friendly method. These merits demonstrated by K@GaSnS-1 render it very promising in the effective and efficient separation of radioactive cesium from nuclear waste.

Abstract
Efficient adsorption of radioactive 137Cs+ and 60Co2+ and their decay products 137Ba2+ and 60Ni2+ bears significance for hazard elimination in case of nuclear emergency, which relies on the adsorption rate enhancement that takes advantages of compositional and structural optimization. Herein, we report a zinc-doped selenidostannate constructed from T2-supertetrahedral clusters, namely K3.4(CH3NH3)0.45(NH4)0.15Zn2Sn3Se10·3.4 H2O (ZnSnSe-1K). The soft Se and micro-porosity synergistically endow this material with a binding affinity to Cs+, Ba2+, Co2+, and Ni2+ ions and ultrafast kinetics with R > 97.6% in 2-60 min. In particular, ZnSnSe-1K can remove 99.34% of Cs+ in 2 min (KdCs > 1.5 × 105 mL g-1), contributing to a record rate constant k2 of 9.240 g mg-1 min-1 that surpasses all metal chalcogenide adsorbents. ZnSnSe-1K exhibits good acid/base tolerance (pH = 0-12), and the adsorption capacities at neutral are 253.61 ± 9.15, 108.94 ± 25.32, 45.76 ± 14.19 and 38.49 ± 2.99 mg g-1 for Cs+, Ba2+, Co2+, and Ni2+, respectively. The adsorption performances resist well co-existing cations and anions, and the removal rates can keep above or close to 90% even in sea water. ZnSnSe-1K is employed in continuous column and membrane filtration, both of which shows excellent elimination efficiency (R > 99%) for mixed Cs+, Ba2+, Co2+, and Ni2+. Especially, the membrane with an ultrathin (70 µm) ZnSnSe-1K layer can remove 97-100% Cs+ in suction filtration with a short contact time of 0.33 s. Combined with the simple synthesis, facile elution and great irradiation resistance, ZnSnSe-1K emerges as a selenide adsorbent candidate for use in environmental remediation especially that involving nuclear waste disposal.

Abstract
The presence of cesium ions (Cs+) in radioactive wastewater has attracted considerable attention owing to their extreme toxic effects. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop adsorbents for Cs+ with high adsorption capacities (q). While phosphate-based adsorbents have advantages for their disposal, previous adsorbents have shown limited q because of their limited capacity for ion exchange, despite showing high theoretical q values. In this study, two dittmarite-type magnesium phosphates, KMgPO4·H2O (KMP) and NH4MgPO4·H2O (NMP), were synthesized because of their ability to contain readily exchangeable cations in their interlayers. KMP and NMP demonstrated remarkable adsorption capacities for Cs+ (qeKMP = 630 mg g-1 and qeNMP = 711 mg g-1), which were the highest among all reported adsorbents and are ∼84 % of their theoretical values. Their distribution coefficients in waters with high divalent ion concentrations were low, which limits their use for the adsorption of Cs+ from such environments. After adsorption, KMP and NMP were structurally transformed into struvite-type CsMgPO4·6H2O (CsMP), which has two different stacking structures, either cubic or hexagonal, depending on the pH of the solution. The high q values of KMP and NMP enable them to reduce the volume of radioactive waste for disposal.

Abstract
Acidic wastewater containing radioactive 137Cs is difficult to treat by selective adsorption. Abundant H+ under acidic conditions damages the structure of adsorbents and competes with Cs+ for adsorption sites. Herein, we designed a novel layered calcium thiostannate (KCaSnS) that contains Ca2+ as a dopant. The dopant Ca2+ ion is metastable and larger than the ions attempted before. The pristine KCaSnS demonstrated a high Cs+ adsorption capacity of 620 mg/g at 8250 mg/L Cs+ solution and pH 2, which is 68% higher than that at pH 5.5 (370 mg/g), a trend opposite to all previous studies. The neutral condition allowed the release of Ca2+ present only in the interlayer (∼20%); whereas the high acidity facilitated the leaching of Ca2+ from the backbone structure (∼80%). The complete structural Ca2+ leaching was made possible only by a synergistic interaction of highly concentrated H+ and Cs+. Doping a large enough ion, such as Ca2+, to accommodate Cs+ into the Sn-S matrix upon its liberation opens a new way of designing high-performance adsorbents.

Abstract
As the main component of radioactive wastewater, the cesium ion has seriously endangered the environment and human health. Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB NPs) are used as adsorbents for the purification of cesium-containing wastewater because of their ability to selectively adsorb cesium ions. In this work, novel magnetic Prussian blue nanospheres (MPBNs) were developed from polylactic acid nanospheres as a carrier, loaded with Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) inside and PB NPs outside for the removal of cesium ions with the help of magnetic separation. Meanwhile, the effects on the adsorption efficiency of MPBNs, such as pH, time, temperature and initial concentration of cesium ion solution, were studied. The adsorption isotherms, kinetic models and adsorption thermodynamics were investigated to research the absorption mechanism. The results showed that MPBNs were spherical with a rough surface, and their particle size, iron content and saturation magnetization were 268.2 ± 1.4 nm, 40.01% and 41.71 emu/g, which can be recovered by magnetic separation. At 293 K, MPBNs could reduce the cesium ion solution from 40 mg/L to 4.8 mg/L, and its cesium ion removal rate and adsorption capacity were 82.46% and 16.49 mg/g, respectively. The optimum pH of MPBNs for cesium ion adsorption was 5~9, the adsorption equilibrium time was 60 min, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 17.03 mg/g. In addition, MPBNs were separated rapidly by an external magnetic field, and the adsorption process was an endothermic reaction. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics of MPBNs were in accordance with the Freundlich model and quasi-second-order fitting model, respectively, and the adsorption process of MPBNs was controlled by the diffusion step in particles. Notably, these MPBNs could be effectively separated from water by a magnetic field, facilitating engineering applications in cesium-containing wastewater.

Abstract
Efficient and quick removal of radioactive Cs+ from wastewater is significant for the safe use of nuclear energy and human health. A novel adsorbent K1.93Ti0.22Sn3S6.43 (KTSS) was developed for Cs+ removal from complex natural water systems. The working mechanism of KTSS for removing Cs+ was the synergistic effect of ion exchange and the Cs⋯S binding, which was proved by several characterization techniques. KTSS showed ultrafast kinetics for Cs+ adsorption within 1 min with a removal rate of 99%. Meanwhile, KTSS exhibited a higher adsorption capacity of 450.12 mg/g than many other adsorbents to remove Cs+ and possessed excellent chemical stability in a wide pH range of 3-12. Thanks to the natural affinity arising from the S2- ligands, KTSS displayed excellent selectivity for Cs+ even in different complex water systems. The separation factors between Cs+ and the coexisting ions of Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+ were ranged from 408.61 to 7448.20. Fortunately, by eluting with NaNO3 the adsorbent could realize the green regeneration and cyclic utilization. Furthermore, it was found that KTSS had tremendous advantages in the removal of Cs+ in comparison with the other adsorbents. Consequently, it should be considered that KTSS obtained in this study has great potential in applying ultrafast and high-efficient removal of Cs+ from wastewater.

Abstract
The removal of 137Cs from radioactive wastewater remains a huge challenge due to the interference of many coexisting ions. Several tin chalcogenides (X2Sn3Y7, XNa, K; YTe, Se, S) were synthesized and screened for highly selective cesium removal from radioactive wastewater. It was found that Na2Sn3S7 showed the best adsorption performance for low cesium concentrations. Especially after nickel doping, the adsorption capacity and thermal stability of the adsorbent were significantly enhanced. Its maximum adsorption capacity reached 436.72 mg·g-1 within only 5 min and adsorption performance kept active in the pH range of 2-12. After being coated with a porous polysulfone (PSF) fiber, the developed PSF-Na2.1Ni0.05Sn2.95S7 was applied to natural complex water with cesium concentration of 17.58 mg·L-1. The separation factors between Cs+ and competitive ions ranged from 625.21 to 13123.21. It is noteworthy that NaNO3 was an efficient regenerating agent and can be easily separated from the CsNO3 mixture for cyclic utilization. Remarkably, only 45 min in each cycle of adsorption and desorption toward cesium was realized, and the adsorption properties hardly decreased even after 50 consecutive cycles. The above advantages make the proposed material an excellent candidate for efficient Cs+ removal and enrichment from wastewater.

Abstract
The pH values of nuclear wastewater are extremely low or high, which make the efficient removal of 137Cs a major concern among the issues for safety management and environmental remediation. Existing metal sulfides for Cs+ adsorption have shown poor performance at acidic and alkaline conditions, and the reason has not been revealed yet. Herein, a novel potassium aluminum thiostannate (KAlSnS-3) adsorbent was designed and its Cs+ adsorption mechanism over a wide pH range was investigated. We hypothesized that Al3+ dopant on Sn4+ sites would allow stable adsorption for Cs+ upon its partial release at acidic and alkaline conditions. As a result, KAlSnS-3 demonstrated excellent adsorption performance across a broad pH range (1-13), and high selectivity toward Cs+, even under high salinity conditions (in tap water Kd = 3.12 × 104 mL/g; and in artificial seawater Kd = 3.42 × 103 mL/g). KAlSnS-3 also exhibited rapid adsorption kinetics (R = 97.6% in the first minute), a remarkable adsorption capacity (259.31 mg/g), and a high distribution coefficient (2.09 × 105 mL/g) toward Cs+. In addition, the high reusability of KAlSnS-3 was observed, suggesting its potential for real-world applications. The mechanism for enhancing performance at low and high pH values was discussed with the evidence of crystallinity, elemental concentrations, and binding energy of electrons based on the concept of electrostatic interactions and chemical affinity. In summary, this work provides insights into the mechanism of Cs+ removal under a wide pH range, and the impressive Cs+ adsorption performance indicates the application potential of KAlSnS-3 in wastewater treatment.
