Abstract
Gelatin methacrylate-based hydrogels (GelMA) were widely used in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. However, to manipulate their various chemical and physical properties and create high-efficiency hydrogels, different materials have been used in their structure. Eggshell membrane (ESM) and propolis are two nature-derived materials that could be used to improve the various characteristics of hydrogels, especially structural and biological properties. Hence, the main purpose of this study is the development of a new type of GelMA hydrogel containing ESM and propolis, for use in regenerative medicine. In this regard, in this study, after synthesizing GelMA, the fragmented ESM fibers were added to it and the GM/EMF hydrogel was made using a photoinitiator and visible light irradiation. Finally, GM/EMF/P hydrogels were prepared by incubating GM/EMF hydrogels in the propolis solution for 24 h. After various structural, chemical, and biological characterizations, it was found that the hydrogels obtained in this study offer improved morphological, hydrophilic, thermal, mechanical, and biological properties. The developed GM/EMF/P hydrogel presented more porosity with smaller and interconnected pores compared to the other hydrogels. GM/EMF hydrogels due to possessing EMF showed compressive strength up to 25.95 ± 1.69 KPa, which is more than the compressive strength provided by GM hydrogels (24.550 ± 4.3 KPa). Also, GM/EMF/P hydrogel offered the best compressive strength (44.65 ± 3.48) due to the presence of both EMF and propolis. GM scaffold with a contact angle of about 65.41 ± 2.199 θ showed more hydrophobicity compared to GM/EMF (28.67 ± 1.58 θ), and GM/EMF/P (26.24 ± 0.73 θ) hydrogels. Also, the higher swelling percentage of GM/EMF/P hydrogels (343.197 ± 42.79) indicated the high capacity of this hydrogel to retain more water than other scaffolds. Regarding the biocompatibility of the fabricated structures, MTT assay results showed that GM/EMF/P hydrogel significantly (p-value < 0.05) supported cell viability. Based on the results, it seems that GM/EMF/P hydrogel could be a promising biomaterial candidate for use in various fields of regenerative medicine.

Abstract
Nanocomposite hydrogels based on tyramine conjugated gum tragacanth, poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were prepared by electron beam irradiation and characterized. The FTIR, 1H NMR, and TGA results confirmed the chemical incorporation of HNTs into gum tragacanth. Gel content and swelling of hydrogels decreased with HNTs loading up to 20 % wt. The mechanical strength of hydrogels increased by increasing HNTs content up to 10 % with 371 kPa fracture stress at 0.95 fracture strain, compared to 312 kPa stress at 0.79 strain for gum tragacanth/PVA hydrogel. Hydrogel's biocompatibility and osteogenic activity were tested by seeding rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. The cell viability was >85 % after 7 days of culture. In vitro secretion of ALP and calcium deposition on hydrogels in alizarin red assay after 21 days of culture indicated hydrogel potential for bone tissue engineering.

Abstract
Most components in avian eggs, offering a natural and environmentally friendly source of raw materials, hold great potential in tissue engineering. An avian egg consists of several beneficial elements: the protective eggshell, the eggshell membrane, the egg white (albumen), and the egg yolk (vitellus). The eggshell is mostly composed of calcium carbonate and has intrinsic biological properties that stimulate bone repair. It is a suitable precursor for the synthesis of hydroxyapatite and calcium phosphate, which are particularly relevant for bone tissue engineering. The eggshell membrane is a thin protein-based layer with a fibrous structure and is constituted of several valuable biopolymers, such as collagen and hyaluronic acid, that are also found in the human extracellular matrix. As a result, the eggshell membrane has found several applications in skin tissue repair and regeneration. The egg white is a protein-rich material that is under investigation for the design of functional protein-based hydrogel scaffolds. The egg yolk, mostly composed of lipids but also diverse essential nutrients (e.g., proteins, minerals, vitamins), has potential applications in wound healing and bone tissue engineering. This review summarizes the advantages and status of each egg component in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, but also covers their current limitations and future perspectives.

Abstract
In this study, we engineered an electrospun keratin/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofiber membrane with a three-dimensional (3D) fiber network. Both keratin and PVA are known as biocompatible materials, and the 3D assembly of these two led to a transparent membrane with superior mechanical properties. The as-prepared three-dimensionally assembled keratin/PVA nanofiber (3D keratin/PVA NFs) membrane was characterized by state-of-the-art techniques and used as a corneal implant in rabbit eyes. The transparency, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility of the electrospun keratin/PVA NFs were highly enhanced after 3D modification which is mainly attributed to its unique three-dimensional morphology. The performance of 3D keratin/PVA NFs membrane was compared with horse amniotic membrane (AM), and the results obtained from the clinical and histological evaluations showed that it could be considered as an alternative material to the AM. Furthermore, this study provides an emerging approach for converting a two-dimensional electrospun nanofiber membrane to three-dimensional fiber networks that resemble the structure of the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Abstract
This study focusses on the effect of chitosan coating with eggshell membranes for the reduction of different organic pollutants. Chickens eggs were collected from the local market and utilized to extract the enrich eggshell membranes (ESM). The chicken eggshell membranes are abundant waste material which is inexpensive and illustrates remarkable physiognomies for many possible applications. Fresh fibers/strips coated by chitosan (CS) were prepared by mixing the eggshell membranes with CS solution (2 wt%/v) in different proportions i.e., 10 %, 30 %, 50 %, 60 %, 70 %, 80 %, and 90 %. These strips were then templated with copper and iron metal nanoparticles by putting them in their metal ions aqueous solution to adsorb the metals ions and were then reduced to zero-valent metal nanoparticles (MNPS) by using NaBH4 aqueous solution. These prepared materials (MNPS@ESM-CS) were characterized by using XRD, XPS, FE-SEM, and EDS to confirm the successful preparation of MNPs over the surface of ESM coated with CS. Afterwards, these prepared materials were investigated as a catalyst for the reduction of different organic pollutants, such as 4-nitroaniline (4-NA), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and methylene blue (MB) dye. The catalytic efficiency of ESM was enhanced 5.7-fold by adding only 20 % CS solution. It was observed that Cu@ESM-CS-80 % took 7 min for reduction of 4-NA, 6 min for 4-NP, and 7 min for MB dye. The reusability of the catalytic strip was also investigated for four cycles and found efficient and can be easily recovered by simply pulling it from the reaction mixture.

Abstract
One of the best methods to prevent wound infection and speed up wound healing is wound dressing based on nanofiber-polymer scaffolds, which have acceptable antimicrobial performance and appropriate skin regeneration capabilities. In this paper, the electrospinning method was applied to synthesize the polyvinylpyrrolidone-acrylic acid hydrogel (PVPA)-eggshell membrane (ESM)-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets nanocomposite dressings with different reduced graphene oxide contents (0, 0.5, 1, and 2 wt.%). Thus, smooth nanofibers were fabricated, including a high amount of rGO, which reduced the fiber diameter. Based on the results, rGO played an important role in water impermeability. The results showed that by increasing the rGO concentration from 0.5 to 2 wt%, the contact angle value increased persistently. Results showed that compared to PVPA-ESM, the mechanical strength and strain of PVPA-ESM/1 wt% rGO significantly enhanced 28% and 23%, respectively. Incorporation of 1 wt% rGO enhanced swelling ratio from 875% for PVPA-ESM to 1235% after 420 min, while increasing the rGO to 2 wt% increased the degradation rate of the composites. According to the in vitro cell culture studies, PVPA-ESM wound dressings with 0.5-1 wt% rGO content enhanced PC12 cell viability compared to the wound dressings without rGO nanosheets. Generally, rGO-loaded PVPA-ESM nanofiber wound dressing can be considered as a potential candidate to be used in skin regeneration applications.

Abstract
In the present study, preparation of blend hydrogels of tyramine conjugated gum tragacanth and poly (vinyl alcohol) was carried out by electron beam irradiation, and modification of hydrogel properties with poly (vinyl alcohol) was demonstrated. Gel content, swelling behavior, pore size and mechanical and rheological properties of hydrogels prepared at 14, 28 and 56 kilogray (kGy) with different ratios of polymers were investigated. Gel content increased from 67 ± 2% for pure tyramine conjugated gum tragacanth hydrogel to >92% for blend hydrogels. However, the corresponding equilibrium swelling degree decreased from 35.21 ± 1.51 to 9.14 ± 1.66 due to the higher crosslink density of blend hydrogel. The mechanical strength of the hydrogels with interconnected pores increased significantly in the presence of poly (vinyl alcohol) and increasing irradiation dose up to 28 kGy with a twenty-fold enhancement of stress fracture and excellent elastic recovery in cyclic compression analysis. The equilibrium swelling degree of blend hydrogel containing 3% w/v tyramine conjugated gum tragacanth and 2% w/v poly (vinyl alcohol) prepared at 28 kGy was 16.59 ± 0.81. The biocompatibility of hydrogels was tested in the presence of rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. The viability of cells exposed to hydrogel extract was >92% after 7 days of culture and indicated hydrogel biocompatibility with potential biomedical applications.

Abstract
This study aims to remove organic cationic dye Basic Fuchsin (BF) by adsorption onto a low cost eggshell membrane (ESM) in batch mode at 293 K. XRD analysis confirms the amorphous nature of ESM meanwhile FTIR spectroscopy reveals the presence of several functional groups such as hydroxyl (-OH), sulfhydryl (-SH), carboxyl (-COOH), and amino (-NH2). Morphological observations by SEM indicate its fibrous microstructure. BET analysis shows a surface area of 11.56 m2 g-1 and the presence of mesopores with a volume of 6.173 10-3 cm3 g-1. The value of pHPZC of ESM is 7.05. The influence of adsorbent dose, contact time, pH, temperature and dye concentration is examined. The highest adsorption capacity around 48 mg.g-1is achieved for a dye concentration 250 ppm, pH 6 and 25 °C. In addition, adsorption has been found to follow pseudo-second order kinetics. The analysis of the experimental data using linear forms based on Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models indicate that the best fit is obtained with Freundlich model. Thermodynamic parameters (Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy) reveal that the adsorption of BF onto ESM is an exothermic and spontaneous process. A comprehensive mechanism for BF adsorption by ESM has been proposed.

Abstract
Background The main issue in cutaneous regeneration is to develop engineered scaffolds based on natural extracellular matrix to promote dynamics of skin progenitor cells and accelerate differentiation into mature keratinocytes. Methods In this study, nanofibrous scaffolds composed of a blend poly (ɛ-caprolactone) (PCL), silk fibroin (SF), soluble eggshell membrane (SESM), and Aloe vera (AV) gel were developed by electrospinning method and human basal cells were used to examine differentiation capacity toward keratinocyte-like cells. For this propose, cells were allocated to four distinct groups; control, PCL/SF, PCL/SF/SESM, and PCL/SF/SESM/AV. In all groups, cells were incubated with differentiation medium. Morphology, composition, hydrophilicity and mechanical features of PCL/SF, PCL/SF/SESM and PCL/SF/SESM/AV nanofibers were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), water contact angle and tensile tests. To examine the orientation of basal cells to mature keratinocytes, we performed immunofluorescence analysis by monitoring cytokeratin-19. The expression of genes such as involucrin, keratin-14 and -5 was monitored by real-time PCR assay. Results PCL/SF, PCL/SF/SESM, and PCL/SF/SESM/AV had suitable physic chemical indices and biological activities to be applied as biomimetic scaffolds for the restoration cutaneous tissue. Compared to control, we found an increased basal cell proliferation at 7 and 14 days after plating on scaffolds and reach maximum levels in group PCL/SF/SESM/AV on day 14 (p < 0.05). Electron microscopy showed cell flattening, morphological adaptation. An integrated cell-to-cell connection was generated after cell seeding on scaffolds in all groups. Immunofluorescence imaging showed the ability of basal cells to synthesize cytokeratin-19 in PCL/SF, PCL/SF/SESM, and positive control cells after exposure to differentiation medium. However, these values were less in PCL/SF/SESM/AV compared to other groups. Real-time PCR analysis showed the potency of all scaffolds to induce the transcription of involucrin, keratin-14 and -5, especially involucrin in PCL/SF/SESM/AV group compared to the negative control. Conclusion Modulation of scaffolds with natural biopolymers could enable us to synthesize structures appropriate for cutaneous regeneration.
