Early-onset multiple myeloma: an illustrative case report

An interesting case of renal amyloidosis

In amyloidosis, there is an extracellular deposition of beta-sheet fibrils. Over 25 proteins have been demonstrated to form amyloid. One of them is Ig amyloid light (AL) chains. We are presenting a 40-year-old female who presented with progressive kyphoscoliosis for last 2 years following a minor trauma and bilateral pedal edema for last 3 months. On further investigation, we found that she had a biclonal variety of MM with amyloidosis of kidney leading to massive proteinuria. Very few case reports are available where patient with biclonal variety of MM develop renal amyloidosis.

Plasma cell myeloma infiltrating the dental pulp: An interesting finding

Plasma cell myeloma (PCM) is a clonal neoplastic proliferation of terminally differentiated B lymphocytes (plasma cells/myeloma cells) that involves the skeletal system in a multifocal fashion. Even though jaw involvement has been reported in as many as 30% of cases, myeloma cells infiltrating into the pulpal tissue is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of PCM in which myeloma cells are seen infiltrating into the pulpal tissue of 46.

Multiple osteolytic lesions

Several systemic diseases initially present with various oral manifestations. Investigation of these oral symptoms may at times lead to the diagnosis of grave underlying life-threatening conditions. We present one such case, where the patient manifested with gross enlargement of the mandible, along with lesions in the lower limbs. These lesions were the initial manifestation and on further investigations the patient was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
