Abstract
Whey-based hydrogel samples with increasing concentrations of graphene oxide (GO) were studied, against a control sample (M), for swelling behavior in light of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mathematical models of the diffusion process and for antibacterial activity. Graphene oxide (GO) is an optimal filler for whey-based hydrogels, giving them improved mechanical and swelling properties at low concentrations. Crosslinking induces a certain stiffness of the hydrogels, which is why only the first part of the swelling process (<60%) follows the first-order model, while during the whole time interval, the swelling process follows the second-order diffusion model. The NMR relaxometry results are consistent with the swelling behavior of GO-reinforced whey−gelatin composite hydrogels, showing that higher GO concentrations induce a higher degree of cross-linking and, therefore, lower swelling capacity. Only hydrogel samples with higher GO concentrations demonstrated antibacterial activity.

Abstract
The 1H DQ Fourier and Laplace-like spectra for a series of cross-linked natural rubber (NR) samples naturally aged during six years are presented and characterized. The DQ build-up curves of these samples present two peaks which cannot be described by classical functions. The DQ Fourier spectra can be obtained after a numeric procedure which introduces a correction time which depends less on the chosen approximation, spin-½ and isolated CH2 and CH3 functional groups. The DQ Fourier spectra are well described by the distributions of the residual dipolar coupling correlated with the distribution of the end-to-end vector of the polymer network, and with the second and fourth van Vleck moments. The deconvolution of DQ Fourier spectra with a sum of four Gaussian variates show that the center and the width of Gaussian functions increase linearly with the increase in the cross-link density. The Laplace-like spectra for the natural aged NR DQ build-up curves are presented. The centers of four Gaussian distributions obtained via both methods are consistent. The differences between the Fourier and Laplace-like spectra consist mainly of the spectral resolution in the favor of Laplace-like spectra. The last one was used to discuss the effect of natural aging for cross-linked NR.

Abstract
Low field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (LF-NMR) is a rich source of information for a wide range of samples types. These can be hard or soft solids, such as plastics or elastomers; bulk liquids or liquids absorbed in porous materials, and can come from biomaterials, biological tissues, archaeological artifacts, cultural heritage objects. LF-NMR instruments present a significant advance especially for in situ, ex situ and in vivo measurement of relaxation and diffusion. Moreover, high resolution 1D and 2D spectroscopy, as well as magnetic resonance (MR) imaging are available in these fields. In this work we discuss the advanced analysis of the data measured in LF-NMR from the perspectives of tertiary level that implies the analysis on principal components (PCA), and on the quaternary analysis that uses an artificial neural network (ANN). The principles of PCA and ANN are largely discussed. For the PCA analysis, a series of 52 spectra were analyzed, having been recorded in vivo by LF-NMR. Of these spectra, 38 were generated from normal uterus, 7 by uterus tissue with endometrial cancer, and another 7 were obtained from tissues of women with uterine cervical cancer. The PC1 vs PC2 plot was further analyzed using an artificial neural network, and the results are presented as 2D maps of probability. Furthermore, the perspectives of applying an ANN to solve the problem of Laplace-like inversion are discussed. An example of such ANN was presented and the performance was discussed. Finally, a model of complex ANN, capable to sequentially solve this kind of problems specific to LF-NMR is proposed and discussed.

Abstract
The improvement of water management in agriculture by exactly detecting moisture parameters of soil is crucial. To investigate this problem, a mini inside-out nuclear magnetic resonance sensor (NMR) was proposed to measure moisture parameters of model soils. This sensor combines three cylindrical magnets that are magnetized in the axial direction and three arc spiral coils of the same size in series. We calculated and optimized the magnet structure by equivalent magnetization to current density. By adjusting the radius and height between the cylinders, a circumferential symmetric constant gradient field (2.28 T/m) was obtained. The NMR sensor was set at 2.424 MHz to measure the water content of sandy soil with small particle diameter and silica sand with large particle diameter. The complete decaying, an NMR signal was analyzed through inverse Laplace transformation and averaged on a T2 space. According to the results, moisture content of the sample is positively correlated with the integral area of T2 spectrum peak (Apeak); T2 of the water in small pores is shorter than that in large pores, because the movement of water molecules are limited by the inner wall of the pores. In the same volume, water in large pore sample is more than that in small pore sample, so Apeak of silica sand is larger than Apeak of sandy soil. Therefore, the sensor is capable of detecting moisture both content and pore size of the sample. This mini sensor (4.0 cm in diameter and 10 cm in length) is portable, and the lowest measurable humidity is 0.38%. Thus, this sensor will allow easy soil moisture measurements on-field in the future.

Abstract
A three-magnet array unilateral NMR sensor with a homogeneous sensitive spot was employed for assessing aging of the turbine oils used in two different power stations. The Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) sequence and Inversion Recovery-prepared CPMG were employed for measuring the 1H-NMR transverse and longitudinal relaxation times of turbine oils with different service status. Two signal components with different lifetimes were obtained by processing the transverse relaxation curves with a numeric program based on the Inverse Laplace Transformation. The long lifetime components of the transverse relaxation time T2eff and longitudinal relaxation time T1 were chosen to monitor the hydraulic fluid aging. The results demonstrate that an increase of the service time of the turbine oils clearly results in a decrease of T2eff,long and T1,long. This indicates that the T2eff,long and T1,long relaxation times, obtained from the unilateral magnetic resonance measurements, can be applied as indices for degradation of the hydraulic fluid in power station turbines.

Abstract
Water self-diffusion coefficients and longitudinal relaxation rates in sodium polyacrylate solutions and gels were measured by NMR, as a function of polymer content and structure in a physiological concentration range of monovalent and divalent cations, Ca2+ and Na+. Several physical models describing the self-diffusion of the solvent were applied and compared. A free-volume model was found to be in good agreement with the experimental results over a wide range of polymer concentrations. The longitudinal relaxation rate exhibited linear dependence on polymer concentration below a critical concentration and showed non-linear behavior at higher concentrations. Both the water self-diffusion and relaxation were less influenced by the polymer in the gel state than in the uncrosslinked polymer solutions. The effect of Na+ on the mobility of water molecules was practically undetectable. By contrast, addition of Ca2+ strongly increased the longitudinal relaxation rate while its effect on the self-diffusion coefficient was much less pronounced.

Abstract
In this review we focus on the technology associated with low-field NMR. We present the current state-of-the-art in low-field NMR hardware and experiments, considering general magnet designs, rf performance, data processing and interpretation. We provide guidance on obtaining the optimum results from these instruments, along with an introduction for those new to low-field NMR. The applications of lowfield NMR are now many and diverse. Furthermore, niche applications have spawned unique magnet designs to accommodate the extremes of operating environment or sample geometry. Trying to capture all the applications, methods, and hardware encompassed by low-field NMR would be a daunting task and likely of little interest to researchers or industrialists working in specific subject areas. Instead we discuss only a few applications to highlight uses of the hardware and experiments in an industrial environment. For details on more particular methods and applications, we provide citations to specialized review articles.

Abstract
The form of the two-dimensional (2D) NMR-relaxation spectra--which allow to study interstitial fluid dynamics in diffusive systems by correlating spin-lattice (T(1)) and spin-spin (T(2)) relaxation times--has given rise to numerous conjectures. Herein we find analytically a number of fundamental structural properties of the spectra: within the eigen-modes formalism, we establish relationships between the signs and intensities of the diagonal and cross-peaks in spectra obtained by various 1 and 2D NMR-relaxation techniques, reveal symmetries of the spectra and uncover interdependence between them. We investigate more specifically a practically important case of porous system that has sets of T(1)- and T(2)-eigenmodes and eigentimes similar to each other by applying the perturbation theory. Furthermore we provide a comparative analysis of the application of the, mathematically more rigorous, eigen-modes formalism and the, rather more phenomenological, first-order two-site exchange model to diffusive systems. Finally we put the results that we could formulate analytically to the test by comparing them with computer-simulations for 2D porous model systems. The structural properties, in general, are to provide useful clues for assignment and analysis of relaxation spectra. The most striking of them--the presence of negative peaks--underlines an urgent need for improvement of the current 2D Inverse Laplace Transform (ILT) algorithm used for calculation of relaxation spectra from NMR raw data.

Abstract
Residual second moment of dipolar interactions M(2) and correlation time segmental dynamics distributions were measured by Hahn-echo decays in combination with inverse Laplace transform for a series of unfilled and filled EPDM samples as functions of carbon-black N683 filler content. The fillers-polymer chain interactions which dramatically restrict the mobility of bound rubber modify the dynamics of mobile chains. These changes depend on the filler content and can be evaluated from distributions of M(2). A dipolar filter was applied to eliminate the contribution of bound rubber. In the first approach the Hahn-echo decays were fitted with a theoretical relationship to obtain the average values of the (1)H residual second moment <M(2)> and correlation time <τ(c)>. For the mobile EPDM segments the power-law distribution of correlation function was compared to the exponential correlation function and found inadequate in the long-time regime. In the second approach a log-Gauss distribution for the correlation time was assumed. Furthermore, using an averaged value of the correlation time, the distributions of the residual second moment were determined using an inverse Laplace transform for the entire series of measured samples. The unfilled EPDM sample shows a bimodal distribution of residual second moments, which can be associated to the mobile polymer sub-chains (M(2) ≅ 6.1 rad (2) s(-2)) and the second one associated to the dangling chains M(2) ≅ 5.4 rad(2) s(-2)). By restraining the mobility of bound rubber, the carbon-black fillers induce diversity in the segmental dynamics like the apparition of a distinct mobile component and changes in the distribution of mobile and free-end polymer segments.

Abstract
Much has been learnt and speculated about the form of 2D NMR relaxation spectra of diffusive systems. Herein we show that the eigen-modes formalism can help to establish a number of fundamental structural properties, i.e. symmetries, overall intensities, signs and relative intensities of the diagonal and cross components, of such spectra, on which one can safely rely in analysing experimental data. More specifically, we prove that the correlation T(1)-T(2) spectra will always have negative peaks, thus making questionable the nowadays wide spread strategy in developing inverse Laplace transformation algorithms.

Abstract
The practical aspects of applying CPMG for acquisition of wideline powder patterns are examined. It is shown that most distortions/modulations of spikelet spectra can be traced to the incoherent signal averaging from multiple coherence transfer pathways. A strategy for minimizing these distortions/modulations is described. Also, a few interesting observations regarding the implementation of the wideline WURST-QCPMG experiment are presented, namely the accumulation of second-order signal phase and the effects of varying the sweep rate and rf field of chirp pulses.
