Abstract
BACKGROUND Information on the incidence and risk factors of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in neurodegenerative diseases is limited. We aimed to determine the incidence of DVT among neurodegenerative disorders (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS], Parkinson's disease [PD], multiple system atrophy [MSA], and progressive supranuclear palsy [PSP]-corticobasal syndrome [CBS]) and the risk factors for the development of DVT. METHODS Overall, 229 hospitalized patients with neurodegenerative diseases (65 patients with ALS, 61 with PD, 53 with MSA, and 50 with PSP-CBS) were included in this study. D-dimer value and ultrasonography of the leg vein were assessed to determine the presence or absence of leg DVT. We compared the DVT incidence among each disease group. To identify the risk factors for DVT, a multivariate analysis was performed. RESULTS Of 229 patients, 34 had leg DVT; the incidence was significantly higher in patients with PD (38%) than in those with ALS (2%), MSA (5%), or PSP-CBS (4%). Patients with DVT were older, had a smaller waist circumference, had a longer disease duration, and had a high blood pressure (BP) variability. Multivariate analysis revealed that a PD diagnosis and female sex, with a high BP variability were predictive of leg DVT. CONCLUSIONS Among the neurodegenerative diseases, the DVT incidence was markedly higher in PD than in ALS, MSA, and PSP-CBS. Several risk factors have been identified in patients with leg DVT. Recognition of these risk factors will improve patient care and guide the appropriate use of anticoagulants.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sepsis is a global public health burden. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the third most common cause of death from cardiovascular disease after heart attacks and strokes. We designed this experiment to investigate the factors influencing DVT formation in patients with sepsis. METHODS In this survey, 918 septic patients admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, who underwent DVT screening were enrolled. The data were collected from June 8, 2013 to October 12, 2022. The differences between septic patients with and without DVT were studied from following aspects: basic information, comorbidities, inflammatory cytokines, albumin, source of infection, sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, coagulation and prognosis. MAIN RESULTS In this study, the prevalence of DVT in patients with sepsis was 0.23. Elderly patients with sepsis were prone to DVT (p value < 0.001). In terms of comorbidities, septic patients with hypertension and atrial fibrillation were prone to DVT (p value 0.045 and 0.048). Inflammatory cytokines, such as procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, had no significant correlation with DVT in patients with sepsis (p value 0.364, 0.882, 0.912, 0.789, 0.245, and 0.780). Levels of serum albumin correlated with DVT in patients with sepsis (p value 0.003). The SOFA total score had no relationship with DVT formation (p value 0.254). Coagulation and respiration function were negatively correlated with DVT (p value 0.018). Liver function was positively correlated with DVT (p value 0.020). Patients in the DVT group had longer duration of mechanical ventilation and longer intensive care unit (ICU) stays (p value < 0.001 and 0.006). There was no significant difference in survival in septic patients with and without DVT (p value 0.868). CONCLUSIONS The SOFA total score had no relationship with DVT formation. The function of each organ had different effects on DVT formation. Better coagulation and respiration function, easier DVT formation. Poorer liver function, easier DVT formation. DVT was associated with longer duration of mechanical ventilation and longer ICU stays.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Venous thromboembolism is one of the causes of sudden death in Parkinson's Disease (PD). Few studies have investigated the correlation between PD and deep venous thrombosis (DVT). This study aimed to investigate the frequency of DVT in PD patients prospectively. MATERIAL AND METHOD Demographic characteristics of 37 PD patients without known risk factors for DVT, disease duration, Hoehn-Yahr (H - Y) stage, oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate values with pulse oximetry, use of assistive devices, waist and knee circumference measurements, and modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea score was recorded. Both legs were evaluated for thrombus by Doppler venous ultrasound (US). RESULTS With the H-Y stage of the disease duration, a positive correlation was determined between the H-Y stage and mMRC. Disease duration was negatively correlated with BMI and positively correlated with the need for assistance. Assistive device use was positively associated with age and mMRC. DVT was detected in only one patient. When our patients' files were reviewed after 1.5 years, one patient was hospitalized with the diagnosis of submassive pulmonary embolism. CONCLUSION Attention should be paid to the development of DVT in elderly patients with advanced stages of PD, progression in the H-Y stage, use of assistive devices, and progression in dyspnea scoring. There is also a need for studies on the benefit of DVT prophylaxis in PD patients with a high risk of venous thromboembolism.

Abstract
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMTD) is an uncommon progressive neuromuscular disorder of the peripheral nervous system and primarily leads to distal extremity weakness and sensory deficits. Frequently, affected patients manifest pes cavus, drop foot, and digit contractures that may pose significant challenges in ambulation and grasping objects. Although there are numerous articles of this syndrome in the medical literature, there is a limited number of dental publications. The objective of this article is to review the general and head and neck/oral and maxillofacial features of CMTD. General guidelines for dental management are also provided.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) patients may be at increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) during the acute attack, but evidence is limited. OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) patients with an acute attack and to identify the potential risk factors for the development of VTE. METHODS We conducted a retrospective study of NMOSD patients with an acute attack between January 1, 2015, and June 31, 2021. Diagnosis of DVT or PE was objectively confirmed by doppler ultrasound or computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) during their acute hospital stay. RESULTS We identified 184 attacks in 128 NMOSD patients with the mean age of 46.9 years at the time of the attack and female predominance (152/184, 83.2%). VTE occurred in 22 (12.0%) attacks. Among the 22 attacks, 20 presented with transverse myelitis (TM), 1 cerebral syndrome (CS), and 1 simultaneous TM and brainstem syndrome (BS). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age [odds ratio (OR) = 1.08, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.04-1.12, p = 0.000], Nadir Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS)>6.5(OR = 3.39, 95% CI = 1.22-10.10, p = 0.029) and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment (OR = 3.21, 95% CI = 1.15-8.91, p = 0.025) were independent risk factors for the development of VTE in the total NMOSD cohort. In the subgroup analysis of the NMOSD patients with TM, age at attack (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.03-1.11, p = 0.002) and IVIG treatment (OR = 4.23, 95% CI = 1.44-12.45, p = 0.009) were independent risk factors for the development of VTE in the total NMOSD cohort, but Nadir EDSS>6.5 was not an independent risk factor. CONCLUSIONS VTE is a frequent complication in NMOSD patients, especially in patients with TM. Advanced age and IVIG are independent risk factors for VTE. Immobilization is an independent risk factor for VTE in the total NMOSD cohort but not in the subgroup analysis of the patients with TM.
