Abstract
(1) Background: The retention of intraradicular posts is an important factor for the prognosis of endodontically treated teeth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the push-out bond strength (PBS) of the posts relating to their diameter and region of the root. (2) Methods: A total of 40 premolar teeth (decoronated and root canal-filled) were divided into four groups (n = 10). After post-space preparation, different sizes (1.0, 1.2, 1.5, and 2.0 mm) of glass fiber posts were luted with resin cement into the root canals. After placement, 2 mm thick slices were cut from the roots according to their apical, middle, and coronal regions (n = 116). Push-out tests were carried out in a universal testing machine on each slice. A statistical evaluation of the data was applied. (3) Results: When comparing the diameter, the 2.0 mm posts had the highest PBS (111.99 ± 10.40 N), while the 1.0 mm posts had the lowest PBS (99.98 ± 8.05 N). Divided by the surface of the bonded area, the average PBS value was the highest for the 1.0 mm posts (18.20 ± 1.67 MPa) and the lowest for the 2.0 mm posts (12.08 ± 1.05 MPa). (4) Conclusions: Within the limitations of the study, when comparing the regions of the roots, no significant differences were found among the PBS values of the three regions (p = 0.219). When comparing the diameters, significant differences were shown between the PBS values of the four groups (p = 0.023 and p = 0.003, respectively).

Abstract
(1) Background: An ideal bond strength between endodontic posts and root canal dentin is essential for optimal retention and good prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the push-out bond strength (PBS) of prefabricated fiber and metal posts, luted with resin cement to natural dentin. (2) Methods: Extracted premolars with similar root dimensions were assigned into two groups of 30 each for the metal and fiber posts. Teeth were mounted in acrylic blocks exposing 2 mm of the coronal root. Teeth were subjected to endodontic treatment and post-space preparations. Two groups were further subdivided into three sub-groups (n = 10) according to the size of the posts (# 4, 5 and 6). Posts were cemented with resin cement. Specimens were sectioned into 4 mm slices and subjected to the PBS test. (3) Results: The mean PBS was similar for the metal and fiber posts bonded with resin cement, showing a statistically significant result. An increase in post size increased the bond strength initially, but a further increase in size did not show any marked difference. A total of 71.66% of tested specimens failed with the adhesive failure mode. (4) Conclusions: Metal posts showed slightly higher retention compared to the fiber posts, although the p-value was similar for both types. An increase in the size of posts showed increased retention. The most common mode of failure was adhesive failure between cement and dentin.

Abstract
Settings and Design Department of Prosthodontics, KMSDCH, SVDU, Randomised Controlled study. Materials and Methods Thirty-six teeth that satisfied selection criteria were randomly allocated and treated in the two intervention groups - metal fiber post with composite core and dentin post with composite core. Patient characteristics with respect to gender, tooth guidance, type of tooth, and mobility amount of tooth structure left were recorded. The primary outcome of tooth loss and the secondary outcomes of recurrent caries detected at the crown margin, de-cementation of crown, and fracture of the core, post, and root were recorded at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 month follow up. Statistical Analysis Used Chi Square test. Results Thirty-six teeth in 17 patients (10 males and 7 females) were treated using metal fiber post (18 teeth) and dentin post (18 teeth). No loss of tooth was seen at the end of 3, 6, and 12 months. The secondary outcomes also showed no recurrent caries at margin and no fracture of core, post, and root in both the groups at the end of 3, 6, and 12 months. One case of de-cementation was observed in both the groups at the 12-month period. Periodontal and periapical conditions showed no clinical and radiographic signs at any of the follow-up periods in both the groups. Conclusion This twelve month randomized controlled clinical study concluded a similar success rate for endodontically treated teeth restored with crowns on both metal fiber post with composite core and dentin post with composite core.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the bonding capacity of composite core build-up materials with prefabricated glass fiber-reinforced posts possessing different coronal morphologies. Five post types (Archimede Line (ARL), Fibrekleer (FBK), Glassix (GLX), Matrix Plus (MTP), and ParaPost White (PRW) and three core build-up materials (ClearfilPhoto Core (CPC), ClearfilDC Core (CDC), ClearfilNew Bond (CNB) of different curing modes (light-, self-, dual-cured respectively) were selected. The coronal part was embedded in the core build-up materials and the specimens were loaded under tensile force up to failure. The reliability (β) and characteristic life (σο, in Ν) of the debonding force were evaluated by Weibull statistics and the debonded specimens were subjected to failure mode analysis. The results showed that ARL, MPT posts were the most and GLX the least retentive, despite the core build-up material used. CPC provided the highest retention with four posts (FBK, GLX, MTP, and PRW), without statistically significant differences from CDC in two (FBK and MTP) and CNB in one (PRW). CPC and CDC were the most reliable core materials for two posts (ARL and PRW), with no statistically significant difference from CNB in three (FBK, GLX, and MTP). GLX and PRW demonstrated the highest (93%) incidence of post detachment from core, whereas FBK demonstrated the highest percentage of core material fracture, with most fractures occurring in CDC (57%). Post fractures were most prominent in MTP when combined with CNB. The presence of specific coronal retentive features did not essentially ensure increased strength with the core material, due to their delamination.

Abstract
Background Different disinfectant solutions or medications are indicated prior fiber post bonding procedures.The aim was to evaluate the effect of different pretreatments of root canal on the bond strength of a fiber post luted to dentin with self-adhesive resin cement. Material and Methods Forty-eight single-rooted mandibular premolars were endodontically treated and prepared to receive fiber posts. Teeth were assigned to four groups (n=12). Root canal walls were subjected to no pretreatment (G1 - control); irrigation with 10 mL of 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) (G2); 10 mL of 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) associated with 10 mL of 5% NaOCl (G3); or 10 mL of 17% EDTA (G4). Fiber posts were bonded with self-adhesive cement. After the roots were sectioned into slices, a push-out bond strength test was performed using a universal testing machine at crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Bond strength data were recorded and expressed in MPa and analyzed by Anova (5%) and Tukey Test (5%). Results It was found that G2 (9.36 MPa) and G4 (6.33 MPa) were significantly different among themselves and statistically inferior to G1 (13.93 MPa) while G3 (14.31 MPa) was statistically similar to G1 (control) and superior to G2 and G4. Conclusions Irrigation with 17% EDTA associated with 5% NaOCl showed increased bond strength compared with the same solutions used alone. Key words:Self-adhesive, Dentin, Push-out, Bonding.

Abstract
The use of matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) inhibitors, such as 12-methacryloyloxy-dodecyl-pyridinium-bromide (MDPB), might improve the adhesion of glass-fiber (GF) and polyfiber (PF) posts to root dentine. This study assessed the effect of an MDPB-containing adhesive on the long-term bond strength of GF or PF posts to bovine dentine. Bovine endodontically treated roots were randomly divided into six groups, according to the post type and adhesive system used, as follows: GF serrated post + MDBP-free adhesive; GF serrated post + MDPB-containing adhesive; GF smooth post + MDBP-free adhesive; GF smooth post + MDPB-containing adhesive; PF post + MDBP-free adhesive; PF post + MDPB-containing adhesive. Specimens were stored in water for 6 months, thermocycled (500 cycles wk-1 ), and submitted to the pull-out test and failure pattern analysis. The cement-dentin interface was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. The pull-out data were analyzed using anova and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). No significant interaction between the type of post and the adhesive system was found. Polyfiber posts showed lower bond strength than GF posts, whether serrated or smooth, and the bond strength of the serrated and smooth GF posts was not significantly different. Adhesive failures were predominant in all groups. The type of retainer influenced the bond strength, and MDPB-containing adhesive did not improve the long-term bond strength of posts to dentine.

Abstract
AIM The aim of the study was to evaluate, by means of the push-out test, the effect of the anatomical customization of the fiber post on the bond strength of a self-adhesive resin cement. METHODS Twelve endodontically treated, human, upper central incisors were randomly divided into two groups (n = 6): control (glass fiber posts cemented with Relyx® U200) and customized (glass fiber posts anatomically customized with translucent composite resin cemented with Relyx U200). The roots were sectioned into three slices, cervical, middle, and apical, and photographed with a digital camera attached to a stereomicroscopic loupe. The images were analyzed by software, for evaluation of the cement line. The slices were subsequently submitted to the push-out test until the post had completely extruded, and the fracture mode was analyzed with a stereomicroscopic loupe. RESULTS The results showed significant differences between the groups in the different root thirds in relation to the area occupied by air bubbles (p < 0.05). Bond strength, when all the thirds are considered, was 8.77 ± 4.89 MPa for the control group and 16.96 ± 4.85 MPa for the customized group. CONCLUSION The customized group showed greater bond resistance than the control group and a more uniform cement layer.

Abstract
This study was to evaluate the effect of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on the bond strength of two adhesive systems to the Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treated intraradicular dentin. The roots were accepted regular root canal treatments and post space preparations, and further divided into eight groups according to the four post space pretreatments and two dentin adhesives [Single Bond 2 (SB2) and Clearfil SE Bond (CSB)] used. The push-out strength before and after thermocycling in different root region (coronal and apical), DC of the adhesive and morphologic patterns of treated post space were evaluated. NaOCl + EGCG groups showed the highest push-out strength regardless of the adhesive type, root region and time (P < 0.05). NaOCl pretreatment significantly decreased the push-out strengths and DC of CSB (P < 0.05). EGCG could improve the bonding properties of both SB2 and CSB to NaOCl treated intraradicular dentin. The effect of NaOCl on bonding of a fiber post depended on the type of the adhesive.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the push-out bond strength (BS) of direct anatomic posts (DAPs) and conventional fiber posts (CFPs) cemented with different luting agents in different thirds of flared root canals. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 60 human single-rooted canine teeth were transversally sectioned 16 mm from the radicular apex. After endodontic treatment, canals were flared with diamond burs. Samples were divided into six groups according to post type and luting agent: DAP and RelyX U100 (RXU); DAP and RelyX ARC (RXA); DAP and RelyX Luting 2 (RXL); CFP and RXU; CFP and RXA; CFP and RXL. Roots were sectioned transversely into six 1-mm-thick slices. The push-out test was performed and failure modes were observed. RESULTS The DAP groups (7.23 ± 2.05) showed highest BS values (p < 0.05) when compared with CFP (5.93 ± 1.76). RelyX U100 (8.17 ± 1.70) showed higher BS values (p < 0.05) than RXA (6.46 ± 1.38), and RXL (5.10 ± 1.65) showed the lowest values. Bond strength on the apical third was statistically lower (p < 0.05) than that on the other thirds of the root canals. There was a predominance of adhesive failure for all groups. CONCLUSION The DAPs improved retention in flared root canals, and RXU was the most effective luting agent. The apical third showed the lowest BS values. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The relining procedure of fiber posts with composite and the proper selection of luting resin cement are important for increasing bonding effectiveness in flared root canals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Intra-canal post systems are commonly used to restore root-filled teeth. Bond strengths of the posts can be affected by various surface treatments of the post or the dentin. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dentin surface treatments including erbium-chromium; yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser irradiation with different intensities on the push-out bond strength of the glass fiber posts to root dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty single-rooted human maxillary incisors were filled and post spaces were prepared. After these procedures, the specimens were divided randomly into four groups according to the dentin surface treatments, as follows: (i) untreated surface (control), (ii) 1W Er,Cr:YSGG laser application, (iii) 2W Er,Cr:YSGG laser application and (iv) 3W Er,Cr:YSGG laser application. Then the posts were cemented into the root canals using dual-cured resin cement. Bonded specimens were cut into 1-mm-thick slices and push-out tests were performed using a universal testing device. All specimens were loaded until fracture and the failure modes were evaluated with a stereomicroscope at 32× magnification. Representative specimens were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA, Tukey and Wilcoxon tests. RESULTS The bond strength values ranged from 3.22-4.68 MPa. There were no statistically significant differences among the groups, regardless of the different levels. The coronal and middle levels of the post space had significantly higher bond strength values compared with the apical level (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation with different intensities did not increase the bond strength of the fiber posts to the root canal dentin walls.

Abstract
Objective: It has been shown that the irrigating solutions and medicament used during root canal treatment may affect the bonding strength. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of triple antibiotic paste (TAP), double antibiotic paste (DAP) and calcium hydroxide (CH) on the bond strength to root dentin of self-adhesive resin cement. Materials and methods: Forty-eight single-rooted human teeth were prepared and randomly divided into one control and three experimental groups (dressing with TAP, DAP or CH). After removal of intracanal dressing, post-spaces were created and fiber posts cemented to the root canal using a self-adhesive resin cement. A push-out test was performed. The data obtained from the push-out test were analyzed using analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc tests (p = 0.05). Results: TAP decreased the bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement bond strength to root dentin compared to the control group (p = 0.012), while CH and DAP did not influence this (p > 0.05). The majority of specimens exhibited adhesive failures. Conclusions: TAP decreased the bond strength of self-adhesive to the root dentin compared to the control group.

Abstract
Introduction: To evaluate the effect of two different post space diameters and related resin cement film thicknesses on the bond strength of a polyfiber post. Materials and Methods: A total of 48 premolars were randomly divided into two according to the post space diameter: 1.1 mm and 1.5 mm. Then each group was divided into three sub-groups according to luting cement used: RelyX U100, Panavia F2.0/ED primer, Clearfil SA cement. Spirapost was then luted into the canal using luting cements. Two slices were obtained from each root specimen. Push-out tests were performed. Data was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Connover post-hoc and Mann-Whitney U-test (P < 0.05). Results: Push-out bond strength was found to vary significantly according to type of adhesive system and post space diameter size (P < 0.05). The self-adhesive resin cement RelyX U100 had significantly higher bond strengths compared with the other adhesive system (P < 0.05). The self-etch adhesive system (Panavia F2.0) showed significantly lower bond strengths compared with the other systems (P < 0.05). There was a significant interaction between the luting systems and post space diameter (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The increases in post space diameter significantly reduced the bond strength of Spirapost to root dentine for both groups.

Abstract
Objective To analyze possible correlations among tubular dentine cement penetration,
adhesiveness and apical leakage in fillings performed with gutta percha and an
endodontic cement based on epoxy amine resin. Material and Methods Sixty similar, extracted human mandibular central incisors were irrigated,
instrumented and filled following the same protocol. First, apical leakage was
quantified by fluid filtration tests. Then, these same specimens were sectioned
for analysis of tubular dentine cement penetration and the middle thirds were
submitted to push-out tests to analyze the adhesiveness of the fillings. Results In brief, the means and standard deviations with a confidence interval of 95% were
as follows: tubular dentine cement penetration (8.875±4.540), adhesiveness
(4.441±2.683) and apical leakage (0.318±0.215). The data were confronted using the
Pearson's test (P>0.05), and it was possible to prove that there was no
correlation between (1) tubular dentine cement penetration and apical leakage
(r2: 0.08276), (2) tubular dentine cement penetration and
adhesiveness (r2: -0.2412) and (3) adhesiveness and apical leakage
(r2: 0.1340). Conclusion After analysis of these data, it could be observed that there exists no
correlation among the variables analyzed in this study.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Luting posts inside the root canal is still a challenge because of the difficulty of bonding adhesive materials in the apical third of roots. This study evaluated the effect of the application mode of 3 simplified etch-and-rinse adhesives on the push-out bond strength (PBS), nanoleakage (NL), and in situ degree of conversion (DC) of fiber posts in the root canal. METHODS The roots of human premolars were endodontically prepared and divided into 6 groups according to the combination of the main factors: adhesive (Ambar, FGM, Joinville, SC, Brazil; Adper Single Bond 2, 3MESPE, St Paul, MN; and XP Bond+self-cure activator, DeTrey Dentsply, Konstanz, Germany) and application mode (manual or sonic). The posts were cemented and the PBS tested at 0.5 mm/min. The NL was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy after the immersion of specimens in 50% silver nitrate. Micro-Raman spectroscopy was used to measure the in situ DC. Root third was also considered in the statistical evaluation. Data were analyzed by 3-way repeated measures analysis of variance and Tukey tests (5%). RESULTS Under sonic application, the PBS and the in situ DC increased, whereas NL decreased significantly for all groups in the middle and apical thirds (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS The application of simplified adhesives by sonic mode in the root canal is a feasible tool to increase the fiber post bond to root canals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of luting cement and thermomechanical loading on the retention of glass fibre posts in root canals. METHODS One hundred and forty-four single-rooted human premolars were endodontically treated and restored with RelyX Fibre Posts. The teeth were divided into four groups according to the cements used (Fuji I, Fuji CEM, RelyX Unicem and RelyX ARC). Each group was further divided into two subgroups according to the method of ageing (immediately tested and after thermomechanical loading). Bond strength was evaluated using a pull-out test. Microleakage was examined quantitatively with dye penetration. The dentine-cement-post bonding interface was assessed using scanning electron microscopy. Data were analysed with two-way ANOVA (pull-out test) and Kruskal-Wallis analysis (microleakage). RESULTS The pull-out bond strength and microleakage were significantly affected by the type of cement and ageing. Although RelyX ARC showed the highest bond strength before thermomechanical loading (p<0.05), the sealing ability of this cement was worse than those exhibited in Fuji CEM and RelyX Unicem (p<0.05). After thermomechanical loading, pull-out strengths of Fuji I and Fuji CEM were significantly increased, whereas that of RelyX ARC group significantly decreased (p<0.05). The sealing ability of Fuji CEM was significantly better than the two resin cement groups (p<0.05) after ageing. CONCLUSION Fuji CEM demonstrates increased pull-out strength after thermomechanical loading and favourable sealing ability compared with the other cements. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Resin-modified glass ionomer cements have the potential benefit of achieving long-term retention when used for luting glass fibre post to root canal dentine. So it may be recommended for the cementation of glass fibre post in clinics.
