Abstract
Background The success of pulpectomy depends on complete eradication of microbial load by cleaning and shaping the primary root canals that is difficult to achieve because of anatomical intricacy of primary pulp dentin complex. Numerous instruments were tried, however, they proved to be inadequate. Selfadjusting file (SAF) is a newer file system that facilitates less dentin removal with maximal cleansing of root canals. Aim To evaluate and compare the in vitro root canal cleaning efficacy with SAF, Protaper Universal, and Hand K-files in primary teeth. Materials and Methods Sixty extracted primary anterior teeth were randomly divided into three groups by lottery method. Access cavity was prepared, the canals were enlarged up to 20 K file, and an Indian ink was injected into each canal. Then the Group I (n = 20) was treated with SAF, Group II (n = 20) with Rotary Protaper Universal and Group III (n = 20) with Hand K-files and the root canal cleaning efficacy was evaluated based on the amount of Indian ink remaining in the canal walls under stereomicroscopy. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis one way ANOVA test and post hoc Tuckey test for intragroup and intergroup comparison, respectively. Results A statistically highly significant difference was observed with SAF (mean = 1.5), Protaper (mean = 2.5), and Hand K-files (mean = 2.9). However, there was no significant difference in root canal cleaning efficacy with Protaper Universal and Hand K-files. Conclusion The SAFs had shown superior cleaning efficacy compared with rotary Protaper Universal and manual K files.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of oval-shaped root canals at the apical, medial and coronal cross sections of all tooth groups using CBCT and image analysis software. Based on the diameter values, the long/short diameter ratio was calculated and each root canal was classified regarding its shape. Oval-shaped canals were present in 45% at the apical, 50% at the medial and 56% at the coronal level of all teeth. The mandibular central incisors presented oval canals in 24%, long oval in 28% and flat in 2% at the apical level. Mandibular molars showed a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05) in the distribution of oval-shaped canals between cross-sectional levels. Analysis of CBCT scans with an image analysis software could be a reliable and reproducible method and a valuable tool for objective determination of root canal shape in further research.

Abstract
This study evaluated the shaping ability of XP-endo Shaper and Mtwo systems in long-oval-shaped canals of extracted human mandibular molars using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Images recorded before and after preparation were evaluated for morphometric measures regarding increase in canal volume, dentin removed, surface area, untouched walls and structure model index (SMI). Data were statistically analysed using the Mann-Whitney test with 5% of significance. On both groups, the root canal preparation significantly increased all analysed parameters (P > 0.05). There was no statistical difference between XP-endo Shaper and Mtwo systems in the increase of the canal volume (30.50%-27.82%), in volume of dentin removed (2.77%-2.40%), in the increase of the canal surface area (11.30%-8.86%), in canal untouched surfaces (9.57%-8.51%) and in the SMI (2.59%-2.68%), respectively. XP-endo Shaper and Mtwo systems showed similar shaping efficiency and were not able to completely prepare the walls of long-oval-shaped canals of extracted human mandibular molars.

Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the degree of crack formation during canal preparation using reciprocating files. A total of 120 incisor teeth were divided into eight groups according to irrigation protocol (n = 15). The irrigation solution and chelating agents included distilled water, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), citric acid, maleic acid, peracetic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel, and EDTA liquid. The root canals were prepared using reciprocating instruments while one of the agents was present within the root canals. A control group was subjected to neither preparation nor irrigation. The roots were horizontally sectioned 3, 6, and 9 mm away from the apices. The numbers of cracks were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed using a chi-squared test. The chelating agents resulted in similar numbers of cracked sections. The use of one of the chelating agents during preparation using reciprocating instruments appears to be beneficial in reducing crack formation.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate oval root canal preparation using one or two instruments in counterclockwise or clockwise reciprocating motion. METHODOLOGY The radiographic diameter of mandibular human incisors was evaluated, and oval canals were selected (2 ≤ Diameter Ratio ≤ 4). Fifty-seven teeth were assigned to root canal preparation (n = 19): Reciproc 40 (R40) in a counterclockwise reciprocating motion; Mtwo size 40, .06 taper (M 40.06) in a clockwise reciprocating motion or Mtwo size 20, .06 taper and size 40, .06 taper (M 20/40.06) in a clockwise reciprocating motion. Mtwo instruments were coupled to an ENDO DUAL motor, turning 150° clockwise and 30° counterclockwise. Scanning was performed before and after root canal preparation using a SkyScan 1176 micro-computed tomography. Volume, percentage of debris and percentage of uninstrumented surface were analysed in the entire root canal and in each third of the canal. Data were compared using anova and Tukey's tests or Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests. RESULTS The Reciproc and Mtwo systems using different kinematics were associated with a similar increase in root canal volume. Additionally, both system had similar percentage of uninstrumented surface (P > 0.05). Mtwo size 20, .06 taper and size 40, .06 taper was associated with significantly lower debris (P < 0.05) in the middle third (0.56%) when compared to R40 (1.31%) and M size 40, .06 taper (1.54%). CONCLUSIONS The conventional reciprocation motion for R40 and the clockwise reciprocation motion for Mtwo resulted in similar root canal preparations. Less remaining debris was present in the middle third when two instruments with different diameters were used.

Abstract
Background This study sought to compare the root canal debridement ability of Neolix, Reciproc and ProTaper rotary systems in long oval-shaped root canals. Material and Methods Eighty five extracted single-rooted human teeth with long oval-shaped single root canals were selected and divided into three experimental groups(n=25) and one control group (n= 10). Root canals were filled with Vitapex radiopaque contrast medium and prepared with Neolix, Reciproc or ProTaper systems. The control group only received irrigation. Digital radiographs were obtained at baseline and postoperatively and subjected to digital subtraction. The percentage of reduction in contrast medium was quantified at 0-5 mm and 5-10 mm distances from the apex. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and t-test. Results The mean percentage of the contrast medium removed was not significantly different in the 0-5mm segment among the three groups (P=0.6). In the 5-10mm segment a significant difference was found in this regard among the ProTaper and Reciproc groups (P=0.02) and the highest mean percentage of contrast medium was removed by ProTaper. But, difference between ProTaper and Neolix as well as Neolix and Reciproc was not significant. In Neolix (P=0.024) and Reciproc (P=0.002) systems, the mean percentage of the contrast medium removed from the 0-5mm segment was significantly greater than that in 5-10mm segment; however, this difference was not significant in ProTaper group (P=0.069). Conclusions Neolix single-file system may be a suitable alternative to ProTaper multiple-file system in debridement of long oval shaped canals. Abstract
INTRODUCTION This in vivo study compared the antibacterial effects of 2 instrumentation systems in root canal-treated teeth with apical periodontitis. METHODS Forty-eight teeth with a single root and a single canal showing post-treatment apical periodontitis were selected for this study. For retreatment, teeth were randomly divided into 2 groups according to the instrumentation system used: Self-Adjusting File (SAF; ReDent-Nova, Ra'anana, Israel) and Twisted File Adaptive (TFA; SybronEndo, Orange, CA). In both groups, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite was the irrigant. Bacteriological samples were taken before (S1) and after chemomechanical preparation (S2). In the TFA group, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) was performed after instrumentation, and samples were also taken after this supplementary step (S2b). DNA was extracted from the clinical samples and subjected to quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction to evaluate the levels of total bacteria, streptococci, and Enterococcus faecalis. Statistical analyses from quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction data were performed within groups using the Wilcoxon matched pairs test and between groups using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Fisher exact test with the significance level set at P < .05. RESULTS Bacteria were detected in S1 samples from 43 teeth, which were then included in the antibacterial experiment. Both SAF and TFA instrumentation protocols showed a highly significant intracanal bacterial reduction (P < .001). Intergroup quantitative comparisons disclosed no significant differences between TFA with or without PUI and SAF (P > .05). PUI did not result in significant improvement in disinfection (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS Both instrumentation systems/treatment protocols were highly effective in significantly reducing the intracanal bacterial counts. No significant difference was observed between the 2 systems in disinfecting the canals of teeth with post-treatment apical periodontitis.

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the canal debridement capabilities of three single file systems, ProTaper, and K-files in oval-shaped canals. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five extracted human mandibular central incisors with oval-shaped root canals were selected. A radiopaque contrast medium (Metapex; Meta Biomed Co. Ltd., Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea) was introduced into the canal systems and the self-adjusting file (SAF), WaveOne, Reciproc, ProTaper, and K-files were used for the instrumentation of the canals. The percentage of removed contrast medium was calculated using pre- and post-operative radiographs. Results: An overall comparison between the groups revealed that the hand file (HF) and SAF groups presented the lowest percentage of removed contrast medium, whereas the WaveOne group showed the highest percentage (P < 0.001). The ProTaper group removed more contrast medium than the SAF and HF groups (P < 0.05). Conclusions: None of the instruments was able to remove the contrast medium completely. WaveOne performed significantly better than other groups.
